Modern business conditions are determined by uncertainty, rapid change and business in a dynamic and turbulent business environment. It is clear that the environment has an impact on the business of the enterprise, but the enterprise also has some influence on the environment. In this context, it is very important to conduct a strategic analysis of the environment that we divide into internal and external. External environment analysis refers to the analysis of opportunities and threats, while the internal analysis focuses on the analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the company. In this paper the emphasis is placed on the most significant methods for strategic analysis of the businesses most commonly used in practice. By applying these methods, businesses come up with important environmental information that they need when formulating a business strategy. There is growing evidence around the world that the sector of small, medium enterprises and entrepreneurs (SMEs) has a very important role in the economic development of any country, whether it is about countries with developed economies, developing countries or countries in transition. In the Republic of Serbia, the sector of small, medium enterprises and entrepreneurs (SMEs) is also a very important factor in economic development. Today, this sector has a tendency to make more use of intensive production processes than large companies and thus significantly contribute to increased employment, income generation and poverty reduction. The paper deals with the analysis of the development of the SME sector in the Republic of Serbia with special reference to the period from 2015-2017. Mankind is slowly and painfully realizing that sustainability is very complicated in the current patterns of human lives. The fact that a billion times smaller enemy (virus) can put all the achievements of the previous civilization to the test testifies to how powerless man is before nature. Regardless of environmental and humanitarian problems, there is hope that man will be able to react in the right way, with a greater understanding of the dynamics of natural and social processes. So, to survive, it is necessary to expand knowledge, it is necessary to find the right path to sustainability. Dissemination of knowledge helps to raise the environmental awareness of man, and it is necessary at the very beginning of the education of each individual, to introduce knowledge about sustainable development and the ways of the same. With the maturation of the individual, knowledge needs to be increased until the moment when the person himself decides on higher education. The paper represents a modest contribution to achieving the path of sustainability, pointing out the importance of education in higher education institutions with the aim of understanding the importance of how inseparable man is from nature and how much he depends on it. Therefore, the authors present the practice of higher education from the countries of the Asia-Pacific region, aimed at understanding the importance of higher education for sustainable development. The authors will refer to Higher Education in Serbia as well as how the understanding of sustainability in education is encouraged.
