The study sheds light on how the TV station executives balance the entertainment needs of its audience and the producers' expectations within a changing digital broadcast environment. The study is anchored on uses, gratification, and the encoding and decoding theories. The research employs a mixed-method design approach by using survey questionnaires (415), FGDs and in-depth interviews with 5 TV station executives in Kenya and serial drama fiction producers’. The results indicate that the station executive takes centre stage to fulfil the urban audience needs and the producers’ needs respectively. The station executives’ contextualize the viewers and the serial drama producers as ‘profit vessels’ and any decision made towards them should culminate in economic benefit to the station. The study recommends bridging the relationship between the station executives and the serial drama producers, making the former play an advisory and consulting role in the productions.

The growing social media provides new communication patterns in current Islamic preaching (da’wah). This research focuses on religious language usage in the social media “Tiktok” application utilised by millennial da’i (proselytiser) in particular for da’wah purposes. This study applied a qualitative descriptive and phenomenological approach. The results showed that a simulation of religious languages used by da’i in Tiktok application has created multiple interpretations, wherein media users were invited to think critically in digesting chapter by chapter of the provided discussions, and some even lead to apostasy. Therefore, this article argued that religious language practiced in social media should meet the religious propagation ethics.

The internet has tremendous effects to social and religious lives, including Islamic propagation (da'wah) activities. This paper aims to examine the fundamental concepts of da'wah in response to the mushrooming of cyber based-da’wah as well as adaptation to new media culture. Using a qualitative research for conceptual design, this study has found that the proliferation of cyber religious proselytizing leads the elements of da'wah have become ever-widening concepts. The concept of da’i, for instance, has experienced the reconceptualisation that not only refers to person who convey Islamic teachings through religious sermon (khutbah), but also denotes to a creative content provider for da’wah purposes in the internet. Additionally, the power of preaching in the new media lies in good, comprehensive, and argumentative messages. Similarly, redefinition of the concepts ma'du, feedback, and other da'wah elements occur as response to digital media culture.

This article reports on a quantitative explanatory research conducted with nationwide survey 1000 of millennial Muslim generations in five major cities in Indonesia regarding the digital literacy. The results found that the digital literacy level of millennial santri in Indonesia was quite good. Although the majority learn the internet independently, they were quite quick to adapt to cyber culture. Unfortunately, the duration of internet access has remained quite high that was likely to open up opportunities for negative effects from the internet. In addition, it was also found that several generations of millennial Muslims contributed to spreading hoax, even though without any intention. This occurred because they tended not to check or validate information to authoritative sources.

This paper discusses how Kompas.com and Republika.co.id framed the coverage of the repatriation of ex-ISIS members to Indonesia. This study was a qualitative study using the approach of Robert N. Entman framing analysis model. The findings revealed that Kompas.com and Republika Online framed the return of the former ex-ISIS fighters to Indonesia differently in terms of the selection of news sources, legal analysis, and approval. Kompas.com tended to choose state officials to be a source to conduct analysis based on state law and reject repatriation of ex-ISIS. Meanwhile, Republika Online tended to select religious leaders to analyse based on Islamic law and allowed them to repatriate to this country. In other words, Kompas.com focused on the principle of humanism, while Republika Online more emphasised on Islam values and nationalism in their news coverage.
