The data that has been collected is analyzed in several stages, including data reduction, data presentation, member checks, and conclusion. The results showed that the problems of learning literature in Islamic Junior High School 1 Ternate city were caused by some factors. They are the unprepared implementation of the online teaching and learning process, inadequate devices, the high price of data packages for eastern Indonesia, the lack of enthusiasm of students in online learning, and the mastery of science and technology among teachers, which is not sufficient. In addition, problems in learning literature arise due to the lack of innovative and creative teachers in applying learning methods, learning media, and students reading interest in reading materials in the form of literary works, which are still in the low category.

Madurese language is one of the regional languages in Indonesia which has various dialect variations, namely Bangkalan dialect, Pamekasan, Sumenep, and Kangean. However, the Kangean dialect is considered a separate language by the Madurese in general. This study aims to reveal and identify the isolect status of the language used on Kangean Island and Madurese Island. This study uses the dialectometric method. Data was collected using a list of 845 questions taken from 3 informants at each observation point (OP). Data analysis used the dialectometric method with the formula proposed by Guiter. The results of this study showed 4 categories, namely, no difference (<20%), different speech (21%-30%), different sub-dialect (31%-50%), and different dialect (51%-80%). This study shows there are 2 OP with no difference in status, 2 OP with speech differences, 7 OP in subdialect on Kangean Island. And if all OPs on Kangean Island were compared with OPs on Madurese Island, each has the status of a dialect.

This study analyzed face threatening acts (FTAs) used by the main character in the movie titled The Half of It, focusing on (i) the types of the FTAs and (ii) how the FTAs are used by the main character. The data came from all utterances (words, phrases, clauses, sentences) produced by the main character. A pragmatic theory of FTAs from Brown and Levinson was applied to analyze the data qualitatively. Four types of FTAs are found in this study. The first type is “threatening the hearer’s negative face”, which was embedded in specific acts used by the main character, namely Suggestion, Threat, Reminding, Order, Warning, and Compliment. The second type is, “threatening the speaker’s negative face”, which is followed by such acts as Response to the hearer’s faux pas, Excuses, and Acceptance of offers. The third type is, “threatening the hearer’s positive face” with the acts of Criticism, Insults, Disagreement, Ridicule, Reprimand, Disapproval, Irreverence, Complaints, and Accusations. The last type of the FTAs is “threatening the speaker’s positive face” by using Confession, Emotion leakage, Physical control over the body, Apology, and Acting stupid. Finally, the FTAs enacted in the utterances of the main character are minimized by means of applying the politeness strategies. It has been discovered that the main character used the four types of politeness strategy that were positive politeness, negative politeness, bald on-record, and off-record strategy.

This research is analysis of noun phrases (NPs) to find the deepest meaning, namely ideological reference that indicates speaker’s interest and purposes. In addition to being based on an integrated approach between analysis of form and function, the study departs from the insights that the statements about language is never only about language, and also it is never merely about statements. The research was conducted as a qualitative descriptive study. Therefore, the substance aspect of data is written language, namely a news report entitled “Quran expert says nonmarital sex is allowed in Islam”. The source of data was downloaded from www.thejakartapost.com. The term of population and sampel adheres to the information rich paradigm, so that the population is the entire clauses and the complement of preposition, while the samples are all NPs. The data collection was carried out by observational method, while the data collection technique was handled by reading and taking note. Method and technique of data analysis were operated through a layered model of NP structure that is proposed by Rijkhoff. In addition, NP classification related to ideological reference borrowed the Key Lingual Symbols (KLS) and ideology concepts that are extracted by Sawirman. Based on the analyzing of all data, this research found five key NPs that contain the spirit of discourse and represent the overall message that is conveyed by the author. Moreover, that five key NPs indicate the ideology reference, namely; the institutionalization ideology, the conflictual ideology, the praxis ideology, and the secondary ideology.

Then the data is analyzed based on fufillment and violation, function and implicature of language politeness. Research results are presented using informal methods. The results shows that there were 5 maxims in Sinetron Putri Untuk Pangeran, namely 7 maxims of wisdom, 8 maxims of generosity, 7 maxims of respect and 1 maxim of violation of respect, 1 maxim of humility and 1 maxim of compatibility maxim and 2 violations of compatibility maxim. The politeness functions found consist of 4 declarative functions, 10 interrogative functions, 31 imperative functions, 4 apologizing functions and 4 criticizing functions. The implicatures contained in this sinteron are 1 conventional implicature, 6 unconventional implicatures and 8 assumptions from implicatures.","PeriodicalId":31819,"journal":{"name":"Retorika Jurnal Ilmu Bahasa","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45387061","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The role of an appropriate writing of an abstract becomes significantly important as it acts not only as the representative of the whole content of the paper, but also helps journal reviewers to decide whether the article is deemed worthy to be published. While myriad research on rhetorical move analysis of research article abstracts has been conducted, an inadequate amount of them has probed onto rejected research article abstracts, specifically using a cross-disciplinary lens. This study aims to uncover the rhetorical organization and linguistic features of science and sngineering abstracts by utilizing Hyland’s (2000) rhetorical structure. The method of this research is used as the nature of this research rooted from discourse analysis. A total of eighteen rejected abstracts were retrieved from Indonesian Journal of Science and Technology (IJoST). The findings revealed that all of Hyland’s moves were found in both dataset where the move occurrences were identical to one another. However, significant differences existed in step occurrences, particularly in Step 4 of Move 1, Step 1*, 1, and 2 of Move 3, and Step 1 and 2 of Move 5. Engineering studies considered Introduction, Purpose, and Method as obligatory moves, while science studies viewed Purpose as a conventional move of the three. Pattern-wise, science applied two configurations, while engineering used three. Regarding the linguistic features, present tense and active voice were dominant across the disciplines. Furthemore, it was observed that the conventionality of abstract writing had not been properly performed in the rejected abstracts. This research is hoped to provide an insightful source on rejected research article abstracts to future researchers.
