This qualitative research analyzes the experiences of the cohort of female MBA alumni from The Tuck School at Dartmouth College, class of 1992, relative to leaving their post-MBA careers within ten years post-graduation. The purpose of the research is to identify what led these women to exit their post-MBA intended careers, and what their perceptions are surrounding preparation and practices which could help to retain them, as well as other top-10 female MBAs, in corporate America. This work is important to corporate America, as women are not represented proportionally in leadership positions, which has a detrimental impact of corporate profitability. The results from the study suggest that corporate America, through their human resources departments, needs to undertake intentional and comprehensive cultural change that incorporate policies to support the unique needs of women and families. Furthermore, an agenda for national change is in order, where legislative mandates force corporate cultures to evolve so that women have the right work, not in a “man’s world,” but the right to work in a world that embraces the needs of men and women, mothers and fathers, and parents. Many suggestions for future research are listed, including: further studies of MBA alumni from top-10 business, medical, and law schools; a study of the current curriculum and programs at top-20 MBA programs; a study of actions and strategies that human resources in top corporations across America are doing to dampen the separation of females from their careers; and a study of Current Legislation Supporting National Change.

The main purpose of the present article is to estimate academic achievement and gender peer effects on social comparisons and self-regulated learning behaviors in a Taiwanese EFL context. The participating students were 50 non-English-major freshmen studying in Central Taiwan. Analyses of the data reveal the following findings. First, female students preferred or felt more comfortable making social comparisons with other female students, and they applied more self-regulated learning strategies. Second, male students had a stronger drive to make social comparisons, and they would prepare harder over time for the tests. Third, students with relatively low ability tended toward upward comparison and tended to give up or only study the easy parts.

Teaching computer programming to novice programmers is a challenging job. One possible reason for this is that novice programmers struggle to understand internal manipulation of key programming concepts which causes misconception and difficulties. An observation study was conducted to investigate misconceptions and difficulty experienced by Novice Programmers. Study revealed three major findings - firstly, novice programmers found textual presentation of programming concept to be monotonous; they preferred alternative presentation in the form of – text, audio, video, animation, simulation etc. Secondly, Ergonomics of learning interface causes eye fatigue. Thirdly, to remove misconception when novice programmers search WWW due to numerous search results they suffer from ‘lost-in-hyperspace’ problem.Further, exhaustive survey on existing integrated programming IDE (C, C++, Java Editor, .net Editor, SQL Server, Oracle) revealed integrated help provided by majority of them, suffers from key findings of observational study. To address this, “Integrated Help” content presentation model is proposed. A series of studies established this model to be potentially effective. Learning material facilitated through “Integrated Help” was found to interesting and engaging. As a result it proved to be an aid to novice programmers to develop better understanding of key concepts.

This study concerns with the major objective of foreign language teaching: vocabulary acquisition. The modern trends of teaching and the vast advance of technology enable teachers to use online and mobile applications in a very wide range. The real effect of using such a method need to be measured. Accordingly, this experimental-design study investigated the effect of Quizlet, a rapidly growing application with an online and mobile phone version, on vocabulary acquisition. Two groups of low-level EFL learners at Prince Sattam Bin Abdulaziz University in Saudi Arabia ( N = 42) participated in the study. Each group underwent a pretest and a posttest to assess their acquisition of the assigned vocabulary lessons that were extracted from their syllabus. After using Quizlet for vocabulary learning for a month, the experimental group participants show a significant improvement in vocabulary posttest. Accordingly, the study acknowledges and recommends using the application at university level

This study focuses on why Chinese students come to the U.S. for their higher education. This student population plays a vital role in American colleges and universities, and provides a much needed source of financial revenue. The results indicate that Chinese students are seeking education with a worldview and opt to break from the Chinese system of learning. This article seeks to offer both academicians and university administrators a better understanding of the reasons of these Chinese students, and contributes to the knowledge area extant on this population.

A number of schools in the southern portion of Texas, primarily in and around the Houston metropolitan area and Kentucky have started using a program known as Positive Approach to Student Success, or PASS. PASS is a program designed to provide educational services within the mainstream classroom setting for students identified with emotional disturbances and behavior disorders (EBD). The program was founded on the belief that youth benefit behaviorally from educational experiences with their non-handicapped peers and academically from participation in the general curriculum where there is access to a “highly qualified” (NCLB, 2001) instructors (Poole and Caperton-Brown, 2005). The author will begin with an introduction and a brief program description, and conclude with the author’s suggestions and concerns regarding this program. This author’s primary goal is to review this program in an effort to better understand and explain its goals, objectives, and success.

This study investigated undergraduate students’ perceptions on the issues pertaining to assessment practices at Botswana Private Tertiary Institutions. The purpose of the study was to investigate their perceptions on the issues relating to assessment practices. A survey research design was used for the study. A close- ended questionnaire, with four point Likert scale was developed regarding the issues on assessment practices and administered to a randomly selected five hundred (500) undergraduates from five (5) randomly selected tertiary institutions of higher Education in Botswana. Out of which four hundred and thirty six (436) undergraduate tertiary students responded to the questionnaire and their responses were coded, analysed using descriptive statistics (frequency distributions, mean, standard deviation of responses), exploratory factor analysis, independent t-test and analysis of variance (ANOVA). Results revealed eight (8) main issues of assessment practices as perceived by Botswana Private Tertiary undergraduate students which were as follows: Limited assessment strategies used by lecturers; Inadequate feedback; Non-challenging quality of test items; Assessment to be structured for teaching and learning; Assessment by lecturers not fair and valid; Assessment items focuses more on low order cognitive questions; Timing of assessments not strategic; Marking of assessments by lecturers not consistent. The study further determined if gender and the different tertiary institutions had a significant influence on the undergraduate students’ perceived issues on assessment practices at the different private tertiary universities. It was found that that gender and university of study had significant influence on students’ perceptions with regard to some issues on assessment practices. Based on the findings, all these issues perceived by the undergraduate students would inform institutions of higher education in Botswana tertiary institutions. Recommendations and way forward were suggested to improve the assessment practices at Botswana private tertiary institutions.
