Step 2 is currently being undertaken, entailing convergence/creativity interdisciplinary research. Through the process of carrying this research agenda forward, it will be possible to more comprehensively understand the overall ecology of the Korean-Japanese diaspora, and also to establish the cultural topography of this diaspora from the perspective of ‘glocality’. In this way, the Japanology Institute at Dongguk University hopes to establish a general diaspora research platform, and then to grow into a world-class Korean-Japanese diaspora research institute.

This book is comprised of a collection of papers from two international symposiums on Haruki Murakami. The papers were written by 22 scholars from Japan, France, England, Italy, the United States, and Taiwan. They adopt a variety of approaches to Murakami’s work, and what emerges is a phenomenon that changes in the context of different cultures. One of the features of the book is that many of its authors offer unexpected ways to link Haruki Murakami’s work with that of other Japanese writers. This feature encourages readers to revisit Murakami’s oeuvre and to discover new dimensions in it.
