O presente estudo parte das reflexoes de Ferdinand de Saussure acerca do fenomeno da diversidade linguistica com vistas a compreender como contribuiram para a conformacao do construto teorico saussuriano sobre a lingua. De fato, apesar de ter sido realocado para a quarta parte do Curso de Linguistica Geral (1916), a analise do fenomeno (as linguas) fora a primeira parte do terceiro e ultimo curso que o genebrino proferiu em Genebra entre 1910 e 1911. Percurso semelhante ao do terceiro curso e, igualmente, encontrado nas tres conferencias de Genebra, proferidas em 1891, ou seja, duas decadas antes do terceiro curso de linguistica geral. A permanencia da analise do fenomeno para a posterior elaboracao do construto teorico fornece-nos pistas acerca de sua importância para o conceito saussuriano de lingua. Neste artigo, investigamos as consideracoes de Ferdinand de Saussure sobre a categoria linguistica dos nomes proprios, especificamente na obra responsavel fundacao da Linguistica Moderna: o Curso de Linguistica Geral . Com o intuito de apreender de que maneira o nome proprio e considerado nessa obra, priorizamos dois pontos principais: a negacao da nomenclatura e a unica mencao dessa categoria feita no CLG. Partimos do pressuposto de que, apesar de nao ser evidente, tanto a negacao da nomenclatura quanto os nomes proprios relacionam-se com aspectos importantes da teoria saussuriana, tais como: arbitrariedade do signo, valor e parole. The negation of nomenclature and the isolation of proper name In this work we aim to investigate Ferdinand de Saussure’s considerations about the linguistic cathegory of proper names, specifically in the work responsible by the foundation of Modern Linguistics: Course in General Linguistics . In order to comprehend in which way the proper name is considered in that work, we prioritize two main points: the denial of nomenclature and the single mention of this category made in the CGL. We start from the assumption that, although it is not evident, both the denial of nomenclature and the proper names are related with important aspects of Saussure’s theory, such as the arbitrariness of sign, the value and the speech. Este texto busca comentar as duas traducoes brasileiras da “Nota sobre o discurso”, um manuscrito do linguista Ferdinand de Saussure. Os comentarios sao feitos a partir da comparacao entre as traducoes, em que se procura destacar as diferencas de leitura do texto de partida que cada texto de chegada registra. Do ponto de vista do campo da traducao, mobiliza-se a nocao de retraducao , em duas perspectivas distintas (cf. MESCHONNIC, 2010 e BERMAN, 2017), como forma de fundamentar a ideia de que as traducoes de Saussure no Brasil condensam as leituras que o autor recebeu no contexto brasileiro. Do ponto de vista linguistico, recorre-se a distincao semiotico/semântico (cf. BENVENISTE, 1989) para defender a ideia de que as traducoes buscam explicitar o que se considera o “intentado” do discurso, no caso, da “Nota sobre o discurso”. Commentaries on the translations of “Notes on discourse” by Ferdinand de Saussure in Brazil: elements for the reading of the “Note” This study seeks to comment on the two Brazilian translations of the Note on discourse , a manuscript by linguist Ferdinand de Saussure. Acreditamos que o legado saussuriano e e deve ser um ponto de partida para refletirmos sobre o funcionamento da lingua e da linguagem, visto que hoje temos uma significativa fortuna critica acerca dos escritos saussurianos e da atualizacao de seu pensamento. Este texto apresenta e desenvolve a ideia acerca da nocao de Gramatica em Saussure, a partir de tres principios fundamentais, a saber, a arbitrariedade, o valor e o mecanismo linguistico. Nosso objetivo e mostrar como esses tres principios fundam um conceito de gramatica em Saussure. Inicialmente, desenvolvemos o que entendemos como a grande virada do mestre ao resolver um problema metodologico a partir dos dois primeiros principios – arbitrariedade e valor. Por fim, mostramos como estes estao em jogo no mecanismo linguistico. A concepcao de Gramatica em Saussure, sem deixar de lado a acao da massa de falantes sobre ela, decorre, portanto, desses tres grandes principios. The notion of grammar in Saussure This text presents and develops the idea concerning the notion of grammar in Saussure, based on three essential principles, namely arbitrariness, value, and the linguistic mechanism. We aim to show how these three principles establish a concept of grammar in Saussure. Initially, we discuss the development of the author’s line of thought by resolving a methodological issue based on the first two principles – arbitrariness and value. Our reading of the Course in General Linguistics enables us to extract these notions, which then lead us to the conclusion that it is possible to perceive the functioning of language in its use. Finally, we show how arbitrariness and value are at stake in the linguistic mechanism. We understand that analogy, one of the phenomena that explain the linguistic mechanism, is the main example of how the speaker and the notion of parole [speech] itself are present in the Saussurean perspective. Neste trabalho, apresentamos um breve panorama sobre a linguistica saussuriana no Brasil no inicio do seculo XXI. Analisamos os resumos das comunicacoes apresentadas em tres eventos realizados no Brasil, em 2013, por ocasicao do centenario de morte de Saussure. Essa analise chegou as seguintes conclusoes. Pode-se falar de um interesse pelo retorno ao pensamento de Saussure no Brasil. No entanto, trata-se de um interesse pouco expressivo e circunscrito a espacos pontuais. Embora a linguistica atual brasileira nao manifeste uma grande curiosidade pelo pensamento de Saussure, nas primeiras decadas do seculo XXI, destaca-se o interesse em discutir a natureza revolucionaria desse pensamento. Alem disso, pode-se perceber que o interesse pelo retorno a Saussure, no Brasil, esta alinhado aos grandes temas aos quais se dedica boa parte dos pesquisadores: o ensino e o discurso. The Saussurean linguistics in Brazil in the 21 st century In this paper we go back to the question on the points of view on saussurean linguistics in Brazil in the beginning of 21 st century. We analyze the abstracts of papers presented at three events held in Brazil in 2013, on the occasion of the centenary of Saussure's death. This analysis allows some conclusions. It can be said there is an interest on Saussure’s thought in Brazil. However, the interest is little expressive and circumscribed to punctual spaces. Although current Brazilian Linguistics does not manifest a large curiosity for Saussure’s thought, the first decades of 21 st century put light on the interest in discussing this thought’s revolutionary nature. Besides, we can notice the interest in Saussure in Brazil is aligned to the grand themes to which a great part of the researchers dedicates themselves: teaching and discourse. Keywords: History. Este trabalho tem como objetivo discutir os conceitos de lingua, linguagem e signo a partir de uma concepcao semiologica envolvendo o encontro de dois grandes nomes da linguistica moderna: Ferdinand de Saussure e Emile Benveniste. O aporte teorico que ampara esta reflexao constitui-se pelos Escritos de Linguistica Geral e pelo Curso , bem como pelos artigos Estrutura da lingua e estrutura da sociedade e Semiologia da Lingua , que se encontram no segundo volume dos Problemas de Linguistica Geral. O caminho pretendido procura mostrar que a presenca do homem na lingua e na linguagem se da muito antes de Benveniste tomar a lingua como uma pratica social. Ainda que a dedicacao de Saussure tenha recaido ao estudo da lingua enquanto unidade de um sistema que funda a ciencia linguistica garantindo a esta a autonomia epistemologica, os seus escritos , sobretudo as discussoes voltadas ao valor do signo, fazem com que nos distanciemos cada vez mais de leituras que insistem em conceber a linguistica tao somente amarrada a materia significante da lingua. Saussure: a few steps away from enunciation This work aims to discuss the concepts of langue, langage and sign from a semiological conception involving the meeting of two great names of modern linguistics: Ferdinand de Saussure and Emile Benveniste. The theoretical contribution that supports this reflection is constituted by the Escritos de Linguistica Geral and by the Curso , as well as by the articles Estrutura da lingua e estrutura da sociedade and Semiologia da lingua, which are found in the second volume of Problemas de Linguistica Geral. The intended path seeks to show that man's presence in langue and langage occurs long before Benveniste takes langue as a social practice. Although Saussure's dedication to the study of langue as a unit of a system that founded linguistic science ensuring its epistemological autonomy, his writings, especially the discussions focused on the value of the sign, cause us to distance ourselves more and more of readings that insist on conceiving linguistics only tied to the significant matter of langue.
