The aim of this study is a description of counselor characters obtained from the values of Sanghyang Siksakandang Karesian (SSK) manuscript. Qualitative approach was used in which the data, analysis, and interpretation conformed to the principles of hermeneutics. As a method, hermeneutics was employed to interpret the text meaning within the SSK. The research procedure comprised: 1) selection of texts source, 2) dialogic process involving negotiation and re-negotiation of texts interpretation until the full understanding of the texts was gained, and 3) concept writing. The results suggest that in the SSK, there are three focal aspects supporting the counselor’s personal quality; that are: 1) religious, submissive and obidient to The Most Supernatural Power of God (Batara Seda Niskala); 2) being wastu siwong, a human being having good attitudes, excel at science, and knowledgable about the value of life; and 3) comprehensive about pangimbuh ning twah, the complementary thing toward the success of life in society. Gifted students tend to have too perfectionistic social skills, want others to be in accordance with the desired logic, comfortable interacting with students with homogeneous characteristics. This tendency can be modified by school counselors through the integration of the values of Saprahan local wisdom into guidance and counseling services. The values contained in Saprahan are used as the formation of students' empathy skills. Thus, gifted students have concern for other colleagues, can interact well with students of various characters, accept the shortcomings of other friends, embrace and help other friends, be polite in communicating, and not demean other friends.

The increasing number of students coming to the university’s guidance and counselling unit demonstrates the need for more serious and systemic efforts to deal with students’ mental health. Previous studies have shown that religion has significant contribution to the human mental health and psychological well-being. This study specifically examined the role of one of the spiritual resources that get emphasis in Islamic teachings that is “Tawakal toward Allah SubhanahuwaTa’ala” to the undergraduate students’ mental health. To test the research hypothesis that asserted there is a positive relationship between surrender to God and social-emotional health, current study uses correlational design. The study involved 57 undergraduate students of the statistic class at Psychology Department of Islamic University of Indonesia, Yogyakarta and Surrender to God Scale (Wong-McDonald & Gorsuch, 2000) and Social-Emotional Health Survey (Furlong, You, Shishim, & Dowdy, 2017) were administered to them. When social desirability on the relationship between surrender to God and social-emotional health was controlled, partial correlation r (56) = .510, p = .001was found. The result suggests that there was a significant and strongly positive association between surrender to God and students’ social-emotional health when controlling social desirability scores
