The uncontrolled COVID-19 transmission has changed the socio-demographic conditions of households in Surakarta City. These changes influenced households’ decisions on spending and consumption due to the implementation of social distancing and mobility restriction policies. Thus, this study aims to (1) identify the socio-demographic characteristics of households, (2) identify food shopping and consumption patterns of households due to COVID-19 and the implementation of the PSBB policy, and (3) estimate the relationship between socio-demographic conditions and food shopping and consumption patterns during the COVID-19 pandemic in Surakarta City. This study collected data from 120 respondents through an online survey from August 2021 to September 2021. The results indicated that households reduced food purchases, often bought food from local stores, and often shopped in small stores. Meanwhile, the change in consumption patterns was the increased frequency of in-home activities, namely eating alone or with family and sparing time to improve cooking habits at home. Through chi-square analysis, changes in households’ shopping and consumption patterns were found to be significant to some socio-demographic characteristics, including age, education level, income, and occupation. The results of this study can provide information to the government to design evidence-based policies during post-pandemic recovery in Surakarta City

Tomatoes are one of the daily necessities for people. In general, consumers favor tomatoes with few seeds. Therefore, there must be efforts made to improve the quality of tomatoes, one of which is to reduce the number of seeds, even if it is possible to make tomatoes without seeds (seedlessness). By applying Gibberellic acid (GA) during the growth phase of tomato plants, it is possible to enhance tomato quality through technology. The application of GA to certain plants can reduce the number of tomato seeds and increase their sweetness. It is necessary to discover a way to use GA-containing natural ingredients to prepare for the high cost of synthetic GA. Onions are one of the natural ingredients that contain GA. Thus, this study aimed to examine the effect of applying onion extract as a source of GA to obtain the optimum concentration of onion extract that can improve the quality of tomato fruit. The experimental design utilized Randomized-Group Design with five different treatments: no spraying, spraying with 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% onion extract. According to the findings, the application of onion extract improved the quality of tomato fruit. This condition is reflected by a decrease in the number and weight of seeds per fruit and an increase in the fruit's vitamin C content. Therefore, it is essential to conduct this research to produce inexpensive, high-quality tomatoes to sustain the economy and increase farmers' income

How farmers are willing to pay bio-activators needs to bestudied. The purposes of this study are to analyze theknowledge and use of bio-activators, as well as thewillingness to pay for bio-activators in rice farming. Theresearch was conducted in Malang Regency, with a sampleof 82 farmers from Ngajum and Gondanglegi Districts. Datawere analyzed by descriptive and multiple linear regression. The results showed that the farmers are aware of one tofour brands of bio-activators, and three of the brands areused by the rice farmers. The benefits of using bioactivators that are mostly perceived by rice farmers arefertilizing the soil and plants, thereby increasing theproduction of rice farming. Willingness to pay for bioactivators is based on the prevailing market price, there isno willingness to pay a premium price. Factors that have apositive effect on willingness to pay are land area andbenefits of bio-activators. The wider the agricultural landowned by the farmer and the greater the perceived benefits, the greater the value of willingness to pay will be. Thisinformation can be taken into consideration formanufacturers of bio-activators as a new introductionbefore being released in the market.

Cooperatives have different characteristics and goals from profit-oriented entities (Investor-Owned Firms (IOFs)). Nevertheless, obtaining income higher than the costs incurred (surplus) is one of the efforts that can be made to maintain the sustainability of the business unit and the cooperative organization itself. Based on these conditions, this study aims to determine the factors that affect the remaining income. The type of data used in this study is secondary data obtained from cooperative stakeholders. The objective of this study has been answered by using multiple regression analysis with the common effect model. The independent variables consist of the number of members, own capital, and external capital. Furthermore, based on data analysis, it can be concluded that of the three exogenous variables, only own capital and external capital has a significant effect, and both have a positive impact. The findings of this study strengthen the strategic role of reserve fund allocation and other efforts to increase own capital to support organizational and business development. On the other hand, the increase in external capital needs to be watched carefully. Although it helps increase the remaining income, this type of capital has financial burden consequences

Organic vegetable cultivation helps provide safe and nutritious food production. The increased consumption of quality vegetables as Food necessitates an increase in production; one endeavour to address these needs is to transform yards into agricultural land for organic vegetable gardening by empowering homemakers. This study aimed to investigate the level of organic vegetable cultivation application and the parameters related to organic vegetable cultivation application in the usage of yards. The study was conducted in October 2021 at the Merpati Asri Women Farmers Group in Pengajaran Sub-village, Bandar Lampung City, with 30 participants. A census with a purposeful procedure and a quantitative approach with non-parametric statistical analysis, especially Spearman rank correlation, are applied. The findings revealed that respondents could implement production, maintenance, and harvest activities under recommended organic farming practises, such as using compost from household waste and making vegetable pesticides from plants, at a high level of application of organic vegetable cultivation on yard land. Drug. The amount of application of organic vegetable growing is strongly related to the experience of homemakers in managing the yard, government support, and the level of suitability of cultivation

Technological improvement, particularly to prevent yield loss, will benefits shallot farmers. Technology packages related to crop protection have been introduced to shallot farmers in three shallot-producing areas namely Brebes, Tegal and Pemalang, Central Java. This study aimed to analyze the effect of technology package introduction on the performance of shallot farming. The analysis is carried out using a difference-in-difference approach which ensures the real impact of the technology. The fundamental analysis is economic threshold theory. A total of 160 samples consisting of 112 adopters and 48 non-adopters in this study were spread over three regions. A simple paired and independent t-tests were applied to the hypotheses. Agricultural performance indicators include productivity, costs of production and net income. The results showed that the performance of shallot farming increased significantly due to technological improvements. The technology packages have been able to increase productivity, reduce costs of production and enhance net income of shallot farming. This result is very important because the reduction of pesticides can improve environmental quality and health
