The purpose of this article is to determine the effect of using humor as a teaching and learning approach in the Literacy skills program on the number of visitors to the University of North Sumatra's Library. The descriptive quantitative approach was utilized in this study, with a sample size of 100 participants, mainly new students who participated in the Literacy Skill program and visited the USU Library. Data collection was accomplished through the use of questionnaires, interviews, and a documentation study. The findings indicated that using humor as a teaching and learning approach in the Literacy skills program had a substantial beneficial effect on increasing library visits at the University of North Sumatra. The use of real-life examples of humor in literacy programs demonstrates that instructors have successfully integrated a set of best practices and methods into library instruction sessions, e.g., humorous examples, animations/cartoons, and narrative, with minimum risk. Based on a sense of humor, this strategy will assist in introducing more, promoting the library atmosphere, and encouraging visits and usage of library resources.

The pandemic of Covid-19 affects a variety of facets, including the way education is delivered, which has shifted to an online format via the use of virtual classrooms supplied by several platforms. The purpose of this study is to ascertain lecturers' attitudes about the incorporation of comedy in virtual classrooms. A 14-question closed-ended questionnaire was issued online via Google Form. The questions fall into three categories: humor integration into the learning process, comedy and its influence on students, and lecturer-supplied humor content. A Likert scale was used to create the questionnaire. SPSS was used to analyse and evaluate the data statistically. A more extensive response was gathered through an interview with the subject, who was randomly selected depending on their agreement. The findings indicate that lecturers believe humor is vital in the classroom and can be used as a teaching method. Additionally, they feel that incorporating humor into the teaching-learning process can increase student participation, enthusiasm, comfort, and motivation, as well as garner respect and a favorable attitude toward lecturers. Regarding the material or subject matter utilized to perform humor, the lecturers feel that delicate topics (pornography, religion, sexuality, and political choice), the students' cultural background, and the lesson taught at the time must all be considered. As a result, it can be recommended that comedy can be used as a substitute for relieving pressure and boredom during online learning sessions.

The scientific examination of humour is a recent development in Applied Linguistics and other diverse but cooperating disciplines. Though humour research took off only recently, there has been substantial progress in it. Among the variegated genres of humour situation comedy (abbreviated as sitcom) has received less attention than it merits. This paper analyses Mind Your Language, a situation comedy that is based on the EFL class of an adult education college in London. The show was aired as television series andreceived commendation across the globe. This paper identifies Mind Your Language as a suitable case to study the dynamics of humour in English language classrooms, especially where the learners represent highly diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. This paper applies descriptive and analytical techniques to study the humorous aspects of Mind Your Language series for which Attardo’s (1994) linguistic theory of humour and Grice’s (1975) logic and conversation form the basis. At first, this paper presents the case of situation comedy as a genre of humour and argues in favour of its inclusion in linguistic and scientific research. Then, it presents a review of relevant literature. Next, it lists the questions that outline the scope of the paper. Discussions from the perspective of Humour Studies, semantico-pragmatics, socio-pragmatics and Applied Linguistics follow the questions. The main findings and conclusions appear at the end.
