The importance of implementing solar generation systems in rural areas in Colombia lies not only in providing access to the electric power population, but also in the use of current technologies to enhance their socioeconomic growth. The difficulties for its realization lie in technical limitations and access to the site, preventing mayors, heads of council and communities in general can correctly estimate the topology that suits their needs, falling into deceptions by companies that offer them oversized systems or those that do not meet your technical needs. In this document an analysis is made of the different possible topologies for rural areas, offering a methodology for its implementation with two cases of use as real examples.

Nowadays, cancer is one of the most important morbidity and mortality factors in the world. For these reasons, efforts have been made to optimize the treatments that are used by specialists in the oncology area. One of the main difficulties is the lack of mathematical and statistical models that allow to characterize the performance of the treatments; one of these innovative treatment trends consists of the use of magnetic nanoparticles which are incorporated into the bloodstream either in order to diagnose or transport medications to the affected areas. This paper presents the process of estimating local minimums for a particular case of a function in R3 –defined by parameters r and t– which allows modeling the kinetics of nanoparticles.

In this document is presented the process of analyzing, designing and implementing of a solar energy manager controlled by programmable device CY8C5888LTI-LP097 PSoC 5LP. That makes possible the power measurement of generation, conversion and storage in the photovoltaic system, to take decisions about power supplying mode from the solar panels or the electrical network. Also to have a portable monitor with a tactile screen –connected via Bluetooth– it shows variables like: power consumed, generated and battery bank storage. This system sends data via Wi-Fi for the creation of a register in ThingSpeak data base. The energy manager accompanied by user and consumer control allows the power supply of diary basic devices in home by using a solar resource.

Ventilator-associated pneumonia is acquired by many patients connected to an artificial airway, causing their death of a great percentage to those who are affected. A close relationship has been found between ventilator-associated pneumonia and hospital beds tilting angle which the patients rest on. The correct position has been established between 30° and 45° to reduce the likelihood of ventilator-associated pneumonia; so a tilt sensor linked to the hospital beds is a good method for measuring. The present article describes an electronic device which was developed able to create a link between an IMU sensor connected to a microcontroller and a Wi-Fi module that allows to display, in a real time graphical interface, located in the control center, the current position of hospital’s beds for being monitored by the nursing staff providing a record of the patients’ status in intensive care and emergency units. Device’s performance was checked by hysteresis and fixed position test along a previously defined time where errors in measurement of inclination remain within a suitable range.

An optimization process is a kind of process that systematically comes up with solutions that are better than a previous solution used before. Optimization algorithms are used to find solutions which are optimal or near-optimal with respect to some goals, to evaluate design tradeoffs, to assess control systems, to find patterns in data, and to find the optimum values (local or global) of mathematical functions. A genetic algorithm is one of the optimization techniques. In this way, a heuristic search that is inspired by Charles Darwin’s theory of natural evolution. This algorithm reflects the process of natural selection where the fittest individuals are selected for reproduction in order to produce offspring of the next generation which are population algorithms that emulate behavior similar to Darwinian natural selection. Taking into account these issues, this article shows the performance of a genetic algorithm designed, which allows to find several minimums within a function from the control of population diversity. To perform the tests, the algorithm with four different functions was used, with the particularity of having several minima with the same value. Proposed strategy was compared with a conventional genetic algorithm, the result was the conventional one can only find some of the minimums of the function and sometimes only one, while the proposal finds most of the minimums

In this article, it is proposed a prototype oriented to nurse-call, which allows to create and inform the request of emergency care of a patient to the public, by means of embedded devices like the Raspberry Pi and a Display Touchscreen LCD. The emergency call is carried out by means of a network of switches that activate a channel, then this signal is conditioned and processed to be transmitted by means of a serial bus RS-485, then the received message is decoded and shown on an LCD screen, finally the request information is stored in a database. Some experiments were conducted to evaluate the energy consumption, the rate of data loss, the scope, as well as tests to validate the scalability of the prototype. The results show that the proposal presents an increase in the demand of electric energy, mainly due to the characteristics of the technology used, however, the results show that the designed system allows to quantify the dynamic in the time of the nurse-call and is compatible with other similar systems.

The growth of networks at a global level is inevitable due to the increase of users, devices and applications, such as: Internet of Things (IoT), processing and analysis of large amounts of information (Big Data), or streaming audio and video, which has demanded from the systems, greater storage resources and bandwidth. To this purpose, diverse paradigms have emerged for the centralized management of all the components of a network through fully administrable, centralized and dynamic technological platforms; among these is SDN (Software-Defined Networks). This document, consequently, establishes the state-of-art from a documentary research of a categorical type to be used as a frame of reference for research in the area of SDN by the Research Group of New Technologies of Social Application GIDENUTAS ascribed to the University Francisco Jose de Caldas. This is chronologically limited to a review, from 2007 until today, focused on the countries that have promoted the development and implementation of this new paradigm, using databases such as IEEE Xplore, Google Scholar, as well as documents from standardization organizations such as ONF and ITU.

Currently, the production processes in Colombia are in a phase of continuous improvement, bringing together different specialties that seek to shape and potentiate a product or service, however it is necessary to considerably expand the panorama of possibilities to access the various branches of Creative Culture . From this perspective, entrepreneurship can generate added value that over time can become an opportunity for the sustainable development of the country. This article reviews the relationship between the Creative Economy and Production Engineering, explaining the potential of ideas from unconventional concepts and including them in business models that have managed to be pioneers in this new perspective, all of this through sustainable ideas, cultural heritage , administrative and pedagogical tools aswell as emerging technologies.

Wind energy is one of the best important sources of renewable energy and an excellent alternative for the transition to sustainable energy that the planet earth needs. The wind energy is contained in the air particles in movement, forming kinetic energy. This energy could be transformed into another type of energy such as electricity, through the use of wind turbines. It is known that horizontal axis wind turbines are more efficient energetically, the power output of a horizontal axis wind turbine depends of it aerodynamic performance; therefore, the correct geometric design of the propeller is essential for an optimum wind turbine. This article analyzes the most relevant aspects in the design of a wind propeller, using MATLAB® software to illustrate its behavior, suggests an ideal airfoil for wind applications to use in the 3D modeling of the blades using the computer assisted design, this blades has been built with a 3D printer.
