The Multibusiness Phenomenon beyond Conglomerates and Business Groups:A Corporate Management Perspective 企业管理视角下的综合企业和集团之外的多元企业现象

Businesses and not multibusiness firms are the ones that compete. While each business needs its own competi- tive strategy, multibusiness firms require corporate management for capturing synergies. The competitive view has triggered the emergence of multiple businesses within a single firm. Despite this, it is common to find managers who are unaware of the benefits that joint management brings to the performance of a multibusiness company. Managing multibusiness firms implies facing a paradox: leveraging business uniqueness while creating joint value for the multi- business company. This paper characterizes the multibusiness phenomenon from the existence of ownership ties and coordinated actions, by qualitatively researching 21 Colombian multibusiness firms. It contributes to the managerial knowledge of these types of firms in two different ways: by identifying the multibusiness phenomenon in a variety of companies, and by highlighting the benefits of the joint management of a multibusiness firm.

Estimacion de Economias de Escala en el Mercado de Tarjetas de Pago 支付卡市场规模经济的估计

During the last years, the growth of transactions made through credit and debit cards has presented quite signif- icant increases both in number and in amounts. This paper studies the existence of economies of scale in the pro- cessing of such transactions, a situation that would exist if it were compatible with the existence of a single firm destined to the processing of said operations. The existence of a single firm for processing is not in itself a problem per se, which does generate problems for the competition is the structure of said firm, because for the period of time analyzed, its shareholder composition was composed of The main banks that issue these cards, but also have given them the function of being the acquirer of the merchants for these payment methods, which generates a vertically inte- grated structure, which creates competition problems in the market. After estimating the model indirectly from a cost function, this work determines the existence of economies of scale in the industry.

Retención de Talentos: Evidencia en la Industria Minera del Norte Grande de Chile 人才保留:智利北部大采矿业的证据

The purpose of this study is to determine the impact that critical variables have, associated with the retention of talents in the intention of workers to abandon their employment in the Mining Industry. A rigorous literature review was carried out, in order to identify the variables that, according to the contemporary development of the theory, most impact talent retention and, subsequently, a survey is applied to workers and contractors of the mining indus- try, whose data is analyzed by means of an exploratory factor analysis, presenting the results through a parallel analysis and, finally, a multiple linear regression model. The results indicate that the only significant variables of the study were the Career Opportunity, the reward and benefits and the work-life balance.

ESTUDIO DE PERFILES Y MOTIVADORES DE LOS DONANTES DE UNA ONG 非政府组织捐助者的概况和动机研究

Non-governmental organizations (NGO) need funding to achieve their purposes. For this reason, it is necessary to understand the behavior of donors to achieve a more effective acquisition and retention of donations. Based on the theory of values, the main objective of this research is to identify the profiles of individuals who make donations of time and money to an NGO via the exploration of motivators and inhibitors to donate. A qualitative approach was used with a total of 22 participants in the city of Medellin. Group sessions and in-depth interviews were conducted with 19 donors of time and money between the ages of 18 and 30, as well as three in-depth interviews with experts. The results propose a value segmentation of three groups of donors: Altruists, Hedonists and Makers; mainly repre- sented by the values of “universalism,” “pleasure,” and “self-direction,” respectively. Although for all segments it is important to help those who need it most, the values expressed in the motivations that lead to donations vary from one segment to another. Knowing the different types of donors will allow NGO to generate actions to attract them and extend literature related to charitable behavior.

ANÁLISIS DE LOS FONDOS DE PENSIONES EN CHILE: PERIODO 2011-2018 智利养老基金分析:2011-2018年

The objectives of this study are: 1) Carry out a comparative study of the performance of the different pension funds of each of the AFPs; 2) Carry out a comparative study of the historical performance of the different pension funds of each of the AFPs and compare them, in addition, with results of previous studies carried out by other authors.The scope of this paper is defined as a descriptive-correlational investigation, because it is intended to identify the results of the management of investment portfolios, without manipulating the variables of the problem, these are iden- tified and described as they occur in their context financial, to then analyze them from a temporal and quantitative comparative perspective, based on the Principle of Investor Rationality of Harry Markowitz and applying the Sharpe, Treynor, Jensen and Omega ratio as performance models.An important result observed is that, for this period of 8 years, all AFPs and funds present positive monthly average returns, even though the years 2011 and 2018 show losses, especially funds A, B and C. For their part, the benchmark of Market (IPSA) shows a negative performance. The financial performance ratios are all positive, which indicates that the performance / risk ratio is satisfied.The different returns between AFP and IPSA are explained because pension funds have a high percentage of invest- ments abroad and include fixed income instruments. A more relevant comparison would be to reference the actual results with those of an equivalent fictitious portfolio, but to date, there are no studies that allow defining the parame- ters necessary to form said portfolio. Non-traditional ratios, such as Omega, are coincident when the distributions of the results have a normal configuration. In addition, the conclusion is shared with previous studies, that the AFPs tend to keep portfolios similar to each other, trying not to fall below the profitability of the system.

This case has as protagonists Edith Villalobos and Rosa Ibáñez, executives of Hostal Family House, who must review the information available to determine the convenience of expanding the accommodation capacity, consider- ing the threat of new entrants to the hotel sector of the city of Tacna (Peru), as well as the identification of a market niche to address, estimate the demand taking into account the different characteristics of the services offered and the variability of demand in different months of the year. This case illustrates how the decision to carry out an expansion requires a very deep analysis that goes from the economic and financial aspects to a strategic analysis. The character- istics of the offered product, has a series of advantages but at the same time it means a detailed study of some partic- ular characteristics of the service.

CASO: RESCATE EN LA MINA SAN JOSÉ - ADMINISTRACIÓN DE LA EMERGENCIA 案例:圣何塞矿井救援-紧急管理

El jueves 5 de agosto de 2010, ocurrió un derrumbe en la mina San José, yacimiento que se ubicaba en Chile, en la zona del desierto de Atacama, que dejó atrapados a 33 mineros aproximadamente a 720 metros de profundidad. Las labores de rescate comenzaron ese mismo día y los equipos centraron sus trabajos en un ducto de ventilación que era la única vía posible de acceso hasta el lugar donde se encontrarían los afectados. Un nuevo derrumbe se produjo el sábado 7 de agosto, lo que hizo necesario el uso de maquinaria pesada para continuar con las tareas, pero sin tener éxito en el rescate. A los nueve días de ocurrido el hecho, Rodrigo Reveco, especialista en manejo de emergencias, fue reclutado por la Oficina Nacional de Emergencia del Ministerio del Interior (ONEMI). ESTRATEGIAS DE INTERNACIONALIZACIÓN DE EMPRESAS INDIAS HACIA LATINOAMÉRICA 印度公司向拉丁美洲的国际化战略

The objective of this publication is to analyze the ways of entry for the Indian companies in their internationaliza- tion’s process towards the Latin American market. The literature review and the results of the interviews with expert academics conclude that this process is affect by variables as; the country that receives the foreign investment; to the offer, the kind of company, economic sector in which it operates, and to the demand; the market where the company seeks to develop its internationalization. Five cases have been analyzed; two service companies: Tata Consultancy Ser- vices Limited and Oberoi Hotels & Resorts and three tangible product companies: Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto and Mahindra. The limitations found show that there is a large field of action for future research on strategies for the inter- nationalization of Indian companies to Latin America.

A CONCEPTUAL MODEL OF ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE AND ITS IMPLICATIONS IN THE SERVICE SECTOR 组织文化的概念模型及其对服务业的影响

The increasingly global competition in all productive sectors – including the service sector – has forced companies to adjust their organizational processes to incorporate a customer experience approach. This adjustment implies the need for modifications to certain internal organizational factors, such as organizational culture, values and beliefs, in order to survive. This research proposes that – besides other factors – organizational culture type and the level of cus- tomer orientation can account for a considerable portion of a company’s success or failure. Therefore, the objective of this conceptual paper is to propose a model that determines which type of organizational culture (clan, hierarchi- cal, adhocracy, or market) facilitates a greater degree of customer orientation. Specifically, this research proposes that a market type of organizational culture will have greater customer orientation than the other classifications of organi- zational culture and that a higher degree of customer orientation fosters employee satisfaction, which can have a pos- itive impact on customer satisfaction.
