Lesch–Nyhan syndrome usually affects young children in which there is a compulsive tendency of selfmutilation. There are learning difficulties along with and involuntary movements. In this case there was mental retardation along with osteomyelitis of the left big toe. It is a hereditary disorder and affecting mostly male children but this is a rare case affecting a female child.

Flies are one type of insect, which decompose the organic component in animals, and human cadavers. Therefore, the insects can be used to help the investigators related to human law. One of the methods to determine Post Mortem Interval [PMI] was by identifying the insects that come in the decay process. Some chemicals can affect the development of the insect and its life cycle. Cyanide is widely used to commit murder in Indonesia. The effect of cyanide on the development and life cycle of insects is a very interesting field to study. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of cyanide exposure to larvae weight for PMI estimation. This research was an experimental research that used larvae of Wistar rat carcass. The control group was killed by neck dislocation, while experimental group were killed by oral lethal doses of cyanide. Data were obtained from the measurement and examination of larvae, started from the 1st day until 4 th day after death. Chrysomya, Sarcophaga, and Lucilia larvae were identified from this study. Sarcophaga larvae first appeared and next day followed by Chrysomya and Lucilia. There were significant differences in Chrysomya larvae weight. There were Chrysomya third instar larvae on the 4 th day on cyanide group, with 56.4±16.8 mg of weight. There were Chrysomya third instar larvae on the 4 th day on control group, with 30.4±5.5 mg of weight. The differences of larvae’s weight, among Sarcophaga and Lucilia larvae, could not be determined because there were not enough samples. Chrysomya third instar larvae of cyanide group significantly heavier than control group on 4 th day. The differences of larvae weight, among Sarcophaga and Lucilia larvae, could not be determined because there were not enough samples.

Road traffic accidents (RTA) are a global problem resulting in deaths, physical injuries, psychological problems and financial losses. These financial damages have immediate consequences and long term consequences on the victims and their families. Different countries have different impact of road traffic accidents and therefore spend dissimilar amounts in their budgets to prevent the road traffic accidents. If the financial losses due to road traffic accidents are calculated and highlighted by the researchers, the respective governments will be willing to spend higher amount in their budgets to prevent such accidents; as governments will be able to directly see the benefits to their countries, of spending higher budget amounts. Various countries are acting differently to reduce this menace of road traffic accidents and World Health Organization (WHO) is celebrating “Decade for road safety” to reduce the accidents and thus the financial loses to the society.

The study was conducted on 231 subjects (101 males and 130 females) ranged from 15 years to 69 years in age, with all natural upper anterior teeth present in mouth having no caries, severe attrition, erosion, fracture or restorations were selected. Intercanthal distance (ICthD), intermedialcanthal distance (IMCthD), interpupillary distance (IPD), interalar width (IAW ), inter lip commissural distance (ICmD) and maxillary Intercanine distance from tip to tip (ICD) were measured with a venire caliper with an accuracy of 0.01 mm. Obtained data was entered into Microsoft excel program and various statistical calculations and tests were applied to find out correlation between above mentioned various facial measurements and maxillary intercanine distance in male and female subjects. The statistical results of this study showed that there was positive correlation between intercanthal distance and maxillary intercanine distance in both male and female subjects. Other facial measurements showed no statistically significant correlation with maxillary intercanine distance. Suggesting that the intercanthal distance can be used as a preliminary method to determine the width of the maxillary anterior teeth while constructing complete denture in edentulous patients.

Patient safety errors in OR may originate from: surgeon on account of forgetfulness, inattention, poor motivation, carelessness, negligence and recklessness; Hospital system due to understaffing, inadequate equipment, fatigue, time pressure and inexperience. Quality surgical training is crucial for creation of surgical workforce for health care delivery. The surgical trainees during ‘Junior Residency’ need training in both ‘Surgical’ and ‘Communication’ OR skill. The surgical skill learnt in OR is: competence in ‘basic surgical techniques’; skill of ‘assistance and minor surgeries’: hernia repair, appendectomy, skin grafting and laparoscopic skills. During ‘Senior Residency’ independent surgical judgment and performance of advanced surgical procedures to gain extensive operating experience. The non-surgical skill that promotes patient safety in OR are ‘communication skill’ and ‘team skill’. The ’ supervised progressive responsibility model of surgical training ’ has elements embedded for patient safety. Surgical trainer promotes trainee’s skill and ensures patient safety as well the highest quality of surgery, through gradual decreasing levels of supervision in OR, namely Direct Supervision where the trainer is physically present; Indirect supervision where the trainer becomes available within few minutes; oversight where after the surgery review is provided with feedback and progress monitoring where progress is monitored and supervision is done only in complex surgeries. Supervised surgical training helps creation of skilled practicing surgeon and ensures patient safety.

The Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) 2012 is the first comprehensive law in India on child sexual abuse which expands the scope and range of forms of sexual offences, making reporting of abuse mandatory and defines guidelines for child friendly police and procedures. Doctors and health care professionals are often the first point of contact with abused children and their families. They play a key role in detecting abuse and providing immediate and longer term care and support to children and their families. Hence, they must have an overview of child sexual abuse – prevention, detection and management of abuse from a legal, medical and mental health angle.

Drag racing is a type of motor racing in which automobiles or motorcycles (usually specially prepared for the purpose) compete, usually two at a time, to be first to cross a set finish line. Drag racing has existed in both street racing and regulated motorsport forms since automobiles and motorcycles were developed. Few youth in Bangalore resort to street racing form at nights in peripheral ring road, which is illegal. Here, we are presenting a case of a 19yr old boy, who died at a drag race finishing line. The present case emphasizes the need for regulating drag racing in India and to form strict guidelines for the same.

Corporal punishment in schools is a global problem but with increasing awareness about its harmful effects many countries have banned the corporal punishment in schools. In India this problem was quite prevalent and accepted by the society as it was considered beneficial for the good education of children and still many people are in favor of it. Now with the media coming in and highlighting the serious problems of corporal punishment, demands have come to ban it totally. But mere banning and making rules & laws does not completely solve the problem. In this paper this problem of corporal punishment has been defined, its prevalence mapped and ill effects of corporal punishment highlighted. Current status of laws and regulations and their utility in India and various parts of the world has been discussed. Measures have been suggested to curb and eradicate the problem of corporal punishment in educational institutions.
