Teachers in the 21st century are encouraged to creatively and actively engage learners in the learning process. This requires teachers to use student-centred approaches for learners to improve their learning experiences This article explores teaching strategies teachers use to engage learners in active learning in Business Studies. The study employed a qualitative case study of six purposively selected Grade 10 Business Studies teachers. Data were obtained through semi-structured individual and focus group interviews. Thematic analysis method was used to analyse data. What emerged from the findings is that participants acknowledged the role of learner involvement in creating a supportive social environment that allowed opportunities for enhancing learning of new concepts. Teachers were inspired to express themselves and share in a more relaxed manner without being ridiculed during discussions and presentations. Engaging learners in a variety of collaborative activities led to positive interdependence and interaction while developing self-confidence and interpersonal skills. Diversity in members created spaces for learners to share different viewpoints.

Achieving educational objectives within the school system is contingent upon a conducive environment (Ajani, 2022). In the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) province, the alarming rise in school violence has disrupted academic activities, sparking concerns among education stakeholders. Numerous incidents of violence, resulting in fatalities and property damage, have been well-documented (Mahaye et al., 2022). The recurring nature of these incidents has led to a lack of stability within schools, hindering effective teaching and learning. This study investigates the factors contributing to educational instability in KwaZulu-Natal, drawing from published literature and the authors' direct experience as education administrators. The research reveals that crime and violence are the primary causes of school instability, stemming from internal factors involving learners and staff and external influences from the local community. The study identifies multiple strategies to mitigate school violence, creating a secure and conducive educational environment. Additionally, it proposes measures to ensure school stability in the KwaZulu-Natal province, including moral guidance, heightened security protocols, the cultivation of emotional intelligence, instruction in African philosophy (Ubuntu), and improved teacher welfare packages.

The role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education has been well-documented in developed societies. However, the phenomenon has received little attention in developing countries such as Ghana. This study examined pre-service teachers from one of the teacher education universities in Ghana beliefs about the role of artificial intelligence in higher education. This study employed the quantitative descriptive design to obtain data from a convenience sample of 231 pre-service teachers. The study revealed that the majority of the pre-service teachers are very much aware of AI systems and that using AI-related systems will have a positive effect on pre-service teachers’ performance and that AI has the potential to replace teacher’s absence. Further, the majority of the respondents indicated that AI is relevant as it provides new ways of attaining distinction in teaching and learning. On the contrary, it was discovered that the majority of the pre-service teachers indicated that they feel anxious when it comes to using AI-related systems in learning. It is therefore recommended that more training and support systems be put in place to help and support pre-service teachers when using AI systems during teaching and learning during the post-pandemic era.

Studies show that the settlement of Oglankala, located in the north-east of the Sharur region of Azerbaijan, was inhabited in different periods of history. The strata of this settlement reflect various periods of the Iron Age. Despite the fact that research on the territory of Nakhchivan revealed finds relating to various periods of the Iron Age, however, the classical period has been studied very little. In this regard, architectural remains and other finds of the classical period, revealed by excavations of the Oglankala settlement, are of importance. Archaeological excavations carried out by the Azerbaijan-USA joint expedition in 2008-2011 showed that the citadel and its environs were inhabited in the Oglankala settlement in the classical period. The finds found in Oglankala show that a center for local authority was built here, and after the campaign of the Alexander Great, great construction work was carried out on the settlement. During the excavations, remains of architectural remains, and especially the remains of a columned hall and pottery belonging to various stages of the classical period, were revealed. Cultural strata of Oglankala dating back to the 4th-1st centuries BC are important for studying the history of the Middle East, the South Caucasus, including Nakhchivan.

Water erosion is an inevitable natural phenomenon that sometimes causes very serious damage to infrastructure (towns, roads, hydraulic dams, etc.). Things’ which require anti erosion restorations, in the watersheds of these infrastructures, to protect them. The objective of this research is to perform an is analysis of the state and effectiveness of some anti-erosion restorations, in particular of the thresholds of torrential correction, carried out since 1986 to protect the city of Hassi El Ghalla (region of Ain Temouchent) against floods. The methodology adopted was based on direct observations in the field, taking photos and collecting data at the level of forest conservation in the wilaya of Ain Témouchent. The results obtained revealed a positive assessment of the state of the anti-erosion facilities. The torrential correction weirs and the stepped terraces are mostly in good condition. The vegetation cover is quite dense and the soils are more vulnerable to sheet erosion, qualified as less dangerous compared to linear erosion and mass erosion. The implementation of anti-erosion actions has highly protected the town of Hassi El Ghala against flood. But the forest administration must bring some rehabilitations to these actions and maintain their in sustainability for more efficiency.

The effect of sauna on blood oxygen transport function, lipid peroxidation, prooxidant-antioxidant balance in athletes aged 17-21 engaged in handball sport was studied in the article. Persons involved in the hot air sauna were exposed once a week (20 procedures) for a period of four months. The sauna procedure (at 85-90°C, 10-15% humidity) consisted of two parts: 5 and 10 minutes. In young handball athletes, after taking a dry air bath, an increase in pO2, which is the development of respiratory alkolosis, and a decrease in the combination of hemoglobin and oxygen in venous blood increased the amount of oxygen transported to tissues. After a one-time exposure to the sauna, the development of oxidative stess accelerated (intensification of free radical processes, weakening of antioxidant defenses), and at the end of the course it began to decline. The observed increase in the formation of nitric oxide can play an important role in the modification of oxygen-dependent processes in the body.

Teaching a language is an ongoing hard process. The teacher’s task is to lead this process by applying interesting and innovative ways and approaches so that the learners (it doesn’t matter at school or higher educational institutions) would study not because they have to or their parents want them to, but they would study because they feel the flash of the intrinstic motivation. The teachers should do their best to bring the students body, mind and soul into the classroom by finding ways to turn students extrinsic motivation into inner desire enthusiasm and passion. Project Based Learning is a good means to get this destination if it is organized in the right way and it will become a magic tool in the hands of the smart master if applied effectively. The article highlights the necessity and ways to organize, manage and control this interesting journey full of real-life tasks and assignments.

The dairy industry is an important part of the highly diverse agricultural sector of South African economy. The industry is a significant contributor to the food security and it also provides many social and economic attributes to the nation. South Africa has the potential to be self-sufficient in milk production, the country currently imports fluid milk and processed dairy products. For the industry to attain a larger world market share, it has to be competitive. A proper and constant intercultural business communication (IBC) with nations that are advanced in the production of milk and dairy products is the key to improving the sector's competitiveness. In this regard, the study examines the role of innovative intercultural business communication for the improvement of South African dairy industry. A systematic review method was adopted for collection and analysis of data relevant to the study. Communication accommodation theory (CAT) was used to explain the role that communication plays in building relationship that will lead to improved production. The study revealed that intercultural business communication has the capacity to build relationships that will lead to improved production for dairy industries. The study recommends regular visitations to more advanced nations’ dairy farms and adequate training on language and culture. Based on the conclusion and recommendations, this study presents a platform for the dairy industries to think about an innovative intercultural business communication approach to be at a competitive edge in a global environment.

The purpose of this study is to examine the implications of population aging on local health expenditures in South Africa. A balanced panel of annually observed observations from South Africa over the period of 22 years (1995–2017) was used. The study used gross domestic product (GDP), health expenditure, labor force, and age structure as control variables and pooled OLS, fixed effect, and random effect tests to estimate the relationships among the variables. The results show that the old-age dependency ratio, gross domestic product (GDP), unemployment rate, and gross value added (GVA) are all explanatory variables that are related to healthcare spending and are shown as a base model in the pooled OLS. The results indicate that healthcare expenditure and the old-age dependency ratio have a positive relationship in South Africa. Considering the implications for policy, this study suggests that the South African economy should account for the aging population when policies are designed and that the government should make an effort to improve the healthcare system in order to meet the demands of elderly people.

This study investigated Open Distance Learning (ODL) students’ technology self-efficacy and digital literacy levels and how the relationship between their technology self-efficacy and digital literacy is moderated by gender. The study adopted a quantitative survey research approach and data was collected from 522 students from a selected ODL institution in Nigeria using an online survey. A structured questionnaire consisting of 3 domains namely, demographic, technology self-efficacy and digital literacy were used as a data collection instrument for the study. Data generated from the study were analysed using descriptive statistics of percentages, frequency count, mean and standard deviation while correlation and factor analyses were performed to estimate the model’s consistency and construct validity. The moderating role of gender was done using the process macro (Model 1) developed by Hayes, (2018). Results revealed amongst others that ODL students’ technology self-efficacy is very high and their digital literacy rate is high. Also, technology self-efficacy was shown to exhibit a substantial positive influence on digital literacy among the students. However, the results indicated that gender played an insignificant moderating role in the relationship between technology self-efficacy and digital literacy. Based on the results, it was recommended that efforts at increasing digitization in ODL delivery in Nigeria should take into consideration these factors. Also, policy actions aimed at engaging ODL learners in more technologically sophisticated learning platforms must be anchored on students’ belief in their ability to use the learning platforms to achieve their desired learning outcomes irrespective of their gender.
