This work reviews Chilean retail advertisement based on a content analysis of ads in printed media during 1997 and 2013, in order to link the observed changes with the sociocultural evolution of the country. The results show a more active participation from the consumers towards the supply, with advertisement trying to integrate them –as characters– and making them an active part of the message.

This article aims to discuss the methodology applied to explore the role of different sources of information in the construction of social representations on delinquency. Results show three types of sources of information: intrapersonal, interpersonal and massive. It was possible to find out that three elements determine the importance of each source: credibility, frequency and accessibility.

This paper analyses the strategy to create virtual communities in Amerindian languages through a description of the transition process of the Huastec language from oral domains to the Internet. We identify the most effective strategies to encourage the participation of speakers in their native language on the Internet.

The paper inspects existing and possible intersections between the use and the production of art forms (within its widest meaning: theatre, music, dance, figurative art) and multiple forms of disability, fragility and vulnerability. The study is based on field research that adopted a qualitative sociological approach, realized at the margins of the In Necessita Virtu Festival in Bergamo (born in 2012, in the wake of a previous event). It proposes to give a voice and a body to forms of marginality and hardship through forms of art, but not only. Pairs of contrasting words (production/use, sloth/commitment, visibilia/invisibilia, fragility/resilience, process/product) came forth from the stories told by privileged witnesses, involved in various ways in artistic research and work in contact with socially fragile subjects (the physically and mentally disabled, prisoners, depressed people, and so forth). The tension that emerged – never mutual exclusion (aut aut) nor simple juxtaposition (et et) – intersects the artistic experiences within conditions of marginality, fragility, and hardship. Above all, it is evident that, particularly within these walks of life, artistic languages do not limit themselves to unveiling the human condition, but also inspire in everybody – men and women alike– that generativity that changes lives, powers, communities.

The narrative structure of the monomyth (the heroic journey, whose scheme and repertoire has been identified by Joseph Campbell) has provided an influential anthropological model for screenwriting and film analysis. Its hero is a male subject who performs an initial journey that is divided into moments or stages; the female character in this narrative scheme – who also contains a vision of the world – does not undertake the journey because, as Campbell writes, “she is the destination”. Various scholars (Maureen Murdock, Valerie Estelle Frankel, Joan Gould, Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Marina Warner and others) have subsequently identified alternative narrative patterns, focusing on a different journey with a related arc of transformation: that of female character. In these cases the referential horizon is always that of mythography, and the theoretical one remains substantially Jungian, however their approach to storytelling significantly changes. The circularity of the monomyth is similarly confirmed, yet its rigid structure evolves into more rarefied and complex areas, since more time to process is required. Although such models are not typically or directly connected to the television, several contemporary series deeply explore this narrative structure. This is demonstrated in this article by analysing examples such as Jessica Jones, Orphan Black, Quantico, Orange Is the New Black, The Good Wife.

The aim of this paper is to review the literature that discusses the basic premises of theoretical and empirical studies on Agenda Setting theory, and to propose a “new frontier” in the relationship between traditional elite media and new media. The objective is to explore the extent to which the dynamics of the flow of information created in new media –particularly in blogs and Twitter– is distorting the boundaries of the traditional postulates of this theoretical perspective.

This article describes the process of an ethnography about journalistic work. The goal is to explain how the reflexivity practice of a researcher contributes to his or her research. Starting with a newspaper newsroom case study, this article inquires into the circumstances of the researcher’s socialization process and its articulation with the register and the thematic analysis of the information.

From traditional to digital media, the growth of false information, hoaxes or rumors has recently crystalized in the formulas " fake news " or " alternative facts " , which indicate a certain weakening of critical thinking. These formulas reveal that the public sphere experiences complex epistemo-logical processes, an even more complex relationship to truth and a profound modification of ale-thurgies. This paper will analyze the " life " of false information in a changing media environment, first by defining what the terms " fake news " and " alternative facts " mean, before subsequently analyzing a recent case study involving different levels of false information and forgeries during the French election, the macronleaks. We will observe the ambiguous role of social networks and the strategies deployed by some actors to decipher false information. Therefore, our aim is to offer a semio-political analysis of " fake news " and " alternative facts " that will help us understand why we are so eager to believe in them, and what to do about them.
