Since the debates about modern propaganda began, a question remains unfinished today: the existence, or not, of propaganda in involuntary ideological discourses. In this paper, both currents, here defined as Intentional Propaganda Theory (IPT) and Spontaneous Reproduction of Propaganda Theory (SRPT), are confronted, concluding that the first is based on a restricted vision about power, communication and propaganda.

This article analyzes Ismael Rodriguez’s film El nino y el muro (1964) from two angles. It looks at its context and revises the history of its production. Second, the article explores through the theoretical framework of transnational cinema how the film director Ismael Rodriguez, widely acclaimed as producer of Mexican melodrama, uses this genre and his experience to interpret a social reality.

Cinema participates in the spreading of national stereotypes that shape part of our perception of the otherness. Guten tag, Ramon (Ramirez-Suarez, 2014) and Perdiendo el Norte (Velilla, 2015) are two popular comedies, Mexican for the first one and Spanish for the second, which narrate different cases of migration to Germany, providing various stereotypes of this country and its inhabitants with diverse purposes.

The relationship between myth and catastrophe can help us to understand Werner Herzog’s cinematography. Taking this relationship as a reference, and analyzing character and landscape narrative, I will compare Herzog’s cinematography with some films coming from contemporary Latin-American cinema to show that, even if these films resound with the catastrophe language of the German director, they objectivize catastrophe to the extent of demystification.

This article presents the descriptive analysis of the strategies of spatial representation used in The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant by Rainer Werner Fassbinder and The Passion of Berenice by Jaime Humberto Hermosillo. The study is developed in two phases: mise-en-scene and framing. The paper analyzes the functions of the cinematographic landscape and explains the spatiality or set of meanings expressed through the spaces shown in each film.

On April 22, 1992, nine explosions destroyed a neighborhood populated by workingclasses in Guadalajara (Mexico). Casualties included 210 people killed and many wounded. Through a textual and narrative analysis of 160 articles published in the local press, this research analyzes the narratives that the journalists crafted to commemorate this catastrophe. The article explains how narratives were highly influenced by a religious discourse, and how journalists used the concept of “space” and “body” to explain the explosion’s aftermaths.

This paper addresses an instrument for the meta-theoretical analysis of scientific texts. Based on Anderson´s model, this article proposes the analysis of four claim components (ontology, axiology, epistemology and methodology) implicit on conceptual systems that we employ to study social world´s phenomena. The application of such instrument is aimed at facilitating a critical, productive use of theoretical foundations.
