Childhood medicalization: productions of meaning on the discourse of health professionals. This study aimed to understand which senses are attributed to the medicalization of care recommended to mental health in childhood by professionals who serve children and adolescents in health services. For this investigation, the methodology it was used the Discourse Analysis, thus giving visibility to the productions of meaning of each patient. The aim of this study was to understand the reasons that emerge in the speech of these professionals, when questioned, through semi-structured interviews, about the ways of care destined for childhood in relation to medicine’s treatment. The findings show that the medications are pointed out as the first form of care intended for childhood. The logic that was found in this research points to the use of medicines as a means to supply the absence of one of the family figures, as well as access to information that would call into check for consumption, the pharmaceutical industry and mental health.

This article aims at presenting the intellectual research of professors and students from the Psychology University of PUC Goiás between the years of 2003 and 2019. The findings made possible to exemplify the human behavior analysis science, highlighting its methods and principles, as well as the target behavior under study. The findings also allowed a discussion of the practical impact of these studies. The results showed a greater concentration of descriptive and/or experimental studies in journals covering different behavioral aspects from people diagnosed with some mental disorder, as well as people who did not present any psychiatric diagnosis but were under control of environmental variables tested in experimental conditions.

The relations between character strengths and subjective well-being (SWB) were assessed in 826 high school students, attending public schools in Sao Paulo, Brazil (aged 14 to 18, 60.3% female). This study explored gender and age differences as well. Results revealed significant correlations between gratitude, hope and zest, and SWB, with coefficients between .52 and .56. Girls presented higher averages on integrity, kindness, and beauty. Adolescents with 17 years old showed higher means on love and curiosity, whereas social intelligence and humility indicated higher levels for adolescents with 18 years old. The research data allowed us to verify that character strengths are directly related to aspects of SWB and can be considered important resources for people’s happiness.

Assessment of stress mindset in a sample from the north and northeast regions of Brazil. Stress mindset is defined as the beliefs about the positive or negative consequences of stress on performance. This research aimed to adapt and evaluate the psychometric properties of Stress Mindset Measure (SMM). The sample consisted of 408 undergraduates (25.52 ± 8.72, 68.2% female) from the North and Northeast Regions of Brazil. The dimensionality of the scale was estimated by Exploratory Factorial Analysis with Random Intercept. The results revealed an unidimensional structure of the SMM, corroborating the theoretical hypothesis, with good indicators of reliability. Correlations between SMM scores and Lipp’s Stress Symptom Inventory were also estimated, which indicated negative and low magnitude associations between stress mindset and stress symptoms, corroborating the hypothesis of instrument validity. The results suggest the suitability of the Brazilian SMM version for the construct assessment.

Professional quality of life in health: A study in Intensive Care Units . Objectives: To evaluate the Professional Quality of Life analizing Compassion Satisfaction, Burnout and Secondary Traumatic Stress among health professionals working in Intensive Care Units; to check the risk factors for the occurrence of Burnout and Secondary Traumatic Stress on those professionals. Method: Survey study conducted in four ICUs of tertiary university hospitals in São Paulo. Sociodemographic data was used along with the and ProQOL-BR tool. Results: There was a statistically relevant association between Secondary Traumatic Stress and gender ( p = 0.03) and between Compassion Satisfaction, Burnout and Secondary Traumatic Stress ( p < 0.01; p = 0.002). Conclusion: It was found that there is instability in the professional quality of life of participants, and that the risk factors for Burnout and Secondary Traumatic Stress aren’t related to professional area, age, education, marital status, or income.

Abstract Psychology and social policies: contributions from a postgraduate program in Psychology. This paper looks at social policies in the Postgraduate Program in Psychology, held by Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Goiás (PUC Goiás) from 2001 to 2018. The bibliographic survey was performed using the Sucupira Database Platform, in which 421 dissertations and 63 theses were catalogued. After the selection, 39 abstracts were analyzed according to the theoretical references in Critical Psychology. Although in a reduced number, these dissertations and theses, with focus on social policies, showed the expansion of scientific production in Psychology, in order to change the social reality. In the purpose of analyzing the abstracts, two categories were chosen. The first one was related to programs, services, units and public institutions; the second category is associated to vulnerability and social risk. Most of scientific productions offered an important aid when implementing or improving social policies in Brazil, and, thus, showed the challenges to be faced.

Production in the sexual and gender diversity within the practices of CRAS. This research seeks to understand how the subjects, bodies, and behaviors are produced by performative roles within the gender and sexuality devices in the services offered at a Social Assistance Reference Center (CRAS). For this, we analyzed ethnographic material on how the discourse constitute the performativities regarding gender and sexual expressions making use of problematic situations pertinent to sexual and gender diversity in a CRAS, located in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. We observed that the social technician and psychology interns recognize the importance of the CRAS as an entry way for different subjects and demands beyond the traditional families and cisgender women. However, even though the attention to issues about social assistance which is crossed by sexual and gender diversity is a concern in this service. It needs, therefore, to also be present in the formation/training process, as well as in the meetings of the assistance network and in the guidelines of the National Social Assistance Policies (PNAS).
