Maxillofacial Surgery is a surgical specialty developed from mancommunated work of Dentists and Physicians in the treatment of pathologies of increasing complexity. In the world there is currently a diversity in the requirements of academic degree in income, in the curricular organization and in the type of graduation in the training program of this specialty. Need for legal, ethical and curricular support in the complex medical work of this specialty and the worldwide trend in the development of double graduation to respond to this need cause this study to know about potsgraduate programs of the specialty in the United States, Canada and Chile. I. MASC is a salivary gland tumour which shares histological, immunologic and genetic characteristics with mammary secretory carcinoma including an ETV6 translocation and immunocytochemical positivity for S-100 protein, CK7, and mammaglobin as well as negativity for DOG1. This is a rare tumour with uncommon characteristics when compared to other salivary gland tumours. The case reported here is of a 28-year-old female patient who presented in the ER due to a palpable mass in the left parotid region. She underwent a superficial parotidectomy with using a mini-lifting approach, with tumour resection, followed by radiotherapy. The identified tumour shared most of the clinical characteristics with other cases of MASC described in the literature.

Pseudotumoral calcinosis is a rare entity, which is usually located in joints such as hips or elbows and is extremely infrequent in the head and neck. It might be associated to metabolic diseases or renal failure but can also be hereditary or idiopathic. We report a case of pseudotumoral calcinosis in the anterior cranial base and we describe the surgical technique, assisted by intraoperative navigation and surgical 3D in-house printed guides.

Facial skin defects affecting the nasal sidewall and medial cheek entail a reconstructive challenge for the surgeon. They belong to the central third of the face and thus, they have a direct impact on aesthetics. The difficulty in repairing these defects lies in the need to restore facial symmetry and three-dimensionality. In addition, there is a need to preserve the qualities of the skin of each subunit, since they have a different dermal thickness and different number of sebaceous glands. That is the reason why these defects should not be addressed using a single flap and they require a different reconstructive approach. Although composite central facial defects are common, there is not a unified approach to repair them. The cases presented in this manuscript involves patients who underwent surgical intervention to remove a skin cancer. The extirpation resulted in a cutaneous defect affecting both the nasal sidewall and medial cheek. The surgical technique consisted of harvesting two different flaps, obtaining good cosmetic and functional results, and minimizing donor site morbidity.

They belong to the central third of the face and thus, they have a direct impact on aesthetics. The difficulty in repairing these defects lies in the need to restore facial symmetry and three-dimensionality. In addition, there is a need to preserve the qualities of the skin of each subunit, since they have a different dermal thickness and different number of sebaceous glands. That is the reason why these defects should not be addressed using a single flap and they require a different reconstructive approach. Although composite central facial defects are common, there is not a unified approach to repair them. The cases presented in this manuscript involves patients who underwent surgical intervention to remove a skin cancer. The extirpation resulted in a cutaneous defect affecting both the nasal sidewall and medial cheek. The surgical technique consisted of harvesting two different flaps, obtaining good cosmetic and functional results, and minimizing donor site morbidity.","PeriodicalId":35298,"journal":{"name":"Revista Espanola de Cirugia Oral y Maxilofacial","volume":"13 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68149618","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Currently injectable materials are popular for facial rejuvenation and soft tissue augmentation. There are some added problems, which have been conditioned by the increase in complications with fillers, that are the use of adulterated materials, injections of various types of substances in the same area or because administration by inexperienced/untrained professionals. Several studies suggest that high frequency ultrasound (HUS) is an economical, useful and non-invasive diagnostic tool to determine the nature and type of material and to identify the injection site and quantity of injected filler. We report a case of a 64-year-old woman who presented hemifacial swelling after 15 years of being injected with 1 infiltration of liquid injectable silicone (LIS) in the lips, treated with Minocycline, showing a significant clinical improvement.
