Awareness of HIV/AIDS among Selected Secondary School Students in Kaduna Metropolis, Kaduna State 卡杜纳州卡杜纳大都会部分中学生对艾滋病毒/艾滋病的认识

This study assesses the awareness of HIV/AIDS among selected Secondary School Students in Kaduna Metropolis, Kaduna State. The study used survey research design with a sample of 400 students selected from four secondary schools in Kaduna Metropolis using multi-stage sampling procedure. A questionnaire was used as an instrument for data collection. The instrument was validated by experts and subjected to reliability check. The data was analyze using mean scores and standard deviations in answering the research questions whereby a cut-off point of 3.00 and above was taken as positive response and accepted while less than 3.00 was considered a negative response and rejected. The study concluded that secondary school students were aware and has knowledge on HIV/AIDS in Kaduna Metropolis. However, chances of knowing more are affected by language used, terminologies, no feedback channel of communication and inadequate sex education. The study recommends among others that secondary schools in Kaduna Metropolis in particular and Kaduna State in general should increase the level of awareness of HIV/AIDS and other sexual education among secondary school students to aid them makes inform decision about their sexuality.

Spatio-Temporal Analysis of Noise in Selected Areas of Oyo Township Oyo镇部分区域噪声时空特征分析

Noise is an important environmental problem in major cities of tropical African countries with Nigeria not exempted. The study adopted a quantitative measurement of noise at selected sites having heterogeneous spatial characteristics. The data collected were analyzed using totals, means, t-test and a two-way ANOVA. The study showed that noise is a feedback mechanism stemming from myriads of urbanization and industrialization processes, poor urban planning, social functions, vehicular activities (hooting), household activities, hawking and other commercial activities of the recent times. The study also showed that noise level is functionally related to temporal and spatial characteristics of places. All these have resulted in vulnerability and exposure of the cities dwellers to noise related health impairment despite the presence of some health care centres. The immediate responses known to have followed excessive noise in these areas are hearing loss, sleeping disorder, annoyance, communication impairment, health related problems like cardiovascular diseases, temporary or permanent deafness and the likes. It is hereby recommended that adequate and timely environmental education be organized for people to have a change of attitude towards noise level reduction in particular and environmental pollution in general.

Biology Students’ Questioning Behaviour in Relation to Their Achievement in Biology in Barkin Ladi, Local Government Area, Plateau State 高原地区巴金拉地地区生物学生质疑行为与生物成绩的关系

This study investigated the relationship between senior secondary two students’ questioning behaviour and their achievement in Biology in Barkin  Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State. The research  design was partly an ethnographic research design through observation and narrative  survey. The study  also incorporated a correlational research design in which the correlation coefficient was computed to  determine the  relationship between the variables. The population of the study comprised all the fifteen  (15) senior secondary schools in Barkin Ladi. A sample of  two senior secondary schools out of fifteen  senior secondary schools was selected using purposive sampling technique. Blooms’ category system  was used to transcribe students’ questions. The research instruments were observation using Audiotape recorder and Biology Achievement Test (BAT). The audiotape recorded students’ questions were coded  by two science education specialist in University of Jos while the test items were also  scrutinized by two  biology teachers at the secondary school level. The reliability of the BAT was determined using split-half method and it  yielded 0.80. The research questions were answered using descriptive statistics while  Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used in testing the  Null hypothesis at 0.05 level of significant.  The findings indicated that a high positive linear relationship exists between the raw number of  students’  questions and their achievement scores in Biology. The findings equally showed that students asked  mostly low level questions and the  types of questions that students ask during biology lesson does not depend on gender. Consequently, the study recommended among other things, the training and re-training of teachers as well as students on how to ask thought provoking questions to facilitate students’ performance, teaching and learning of Biology in Senior Secondary schools.

Perceived Challenges of Start Up of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises Among Business Education Graduates in Federal Colleges of Education in North-East, Nigeria 尼日利亚东北部联邦教育学院商业教育毕业生对中小企业创业的认知挑战

The aim of the study was to determine the Perceived Challenges of Start-up of Small and Medium scale Enterprises (SMEs) among Business Education graduates in Federal Colleges of Education in North-East Nigeria. The study was guided by the following research questions: To what extent does Startup capital constitute a challenge in setting up of Small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) among business education students in Federal Colleges of Education in North-east, Nigeria? To what extent does Inadequate Entrepreneurial Skills constitute a challenge in startup of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) among Business Education graduates in Federal Colleges of Education in North-east Nigeria? The design of the study was descriptive survey. The area of the study was North-east, Nigeria; population of the study comprises 639 final year Business Education graduates of Federal Colleges of Education who are trained in Entrepreneurship Education as a course, stratified proportionate random sampling technique was used. The instrument for data collection in the study was a structured questionnaire developed by the researcher. The instrument was validated by two experts from the Department of Vocational and Technology Education, Faculty of Technology Education, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi. Reliability coefficient of 0.81 was obtained which indicates that the instrument was highly reliable. The researchers used a research assistant for administering of the questionnaire. The data collected was analyzed using mean and standard deviation using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) software, version 23. The result of the study revealed that graduates of Federal colleges of education were faced with the challenges of start-up capital in setting up of Small and Medium scale Enterprises (SMEs), also the study revealed that there are inadequate Entrepreneurial skills training in setting up of SMEs among Business Education graduates. Based on the findings it was recommended that Government should increase support given to federal colleges of education in order to boost training of entrepreneurial skills and to provide financial support to students of Business Education to start-up SMEs after graduation.

Impact of Government Expenditure on Public Primary Schools Teachers’ Welfare in Jos-South Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria 尼日利亚高原州Jos-South地方政府区政府支出对公立小学教师福利的影响

This study examined the impact of Government expenditure on public primary school teachers’ welfare in Jos-South Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria. One research question was answered to achieve the objective of the study. Descriptive survey design was employed for the study. The population of the study consisted of 36 supervisors and 139 teachers in public primary schools in the study area. The sample size was made up of 27 supervisors and 91 teachers. Multi-stage sampling technique was employed for selecting the sample. The instruments for data collection were self-structured questionnaires titled Government Expenditure and Primary Education Development Questionnaire for Teachers (GEPEDQT) and Government Expenditure and Primary Education Development Questionnaire for Supervisors (GEPEDQS). The reliability of the instrument was established using Cronbach alpha method which yielded 0.89 and 0.87 respectively, it was found to be reliable. The study employed the use of mean and standard deviation in analysing the data. Findings from the research question indicated that government expenditure for teachers’ welfare in public primary schools in the study area was inadequate. Based on this finding, it was recommended among others that government should increase the expenditure of the educational sector in line with the recommendations of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) which is 26 percent for developing countries.

The study explored Education Administrators’ Perceived Political Influence on Curriculum Development in Tertiary Institutions of Bauchi State, Nigeria. The study adopted qualitative research approach using case study design. Three specific objectives and three research questions were used to guide the study. The population consisted of senior administrators from all the state tertiary institutions in the three geo-political zones in Bauchi State. The study had sample of respondents drawn from the population using purposive sampling technique. The numbers that constituted the sample size were five and drawn from College of Education Azare, College for Legal and Islamic Studies Misau and College of Education Kangere within the three educational zones of Bauchi state. Area of the study is Bauchi state. Semi-structured interview, observation and document analysis were used for data collection. Data collected were analyzed using content and thematic analyses to answer the research questions of this study. The results of the study were discussed in details from interviews and triangulated with the findings made from observations and documents. Based on the findings, it was concluded that politics affects curriculum development positively. It was recommended among others that politics of curriculum development should be done bearing in mind rationale economic calculus for educational development of tertiary institutions. Politics of curriculum development should be intended to improved sustainable tertiary institutions development and not the other way round. In spite of these, the politics of curriculum development has made it difficult to properly plans and administer educational policies and management which has affected the enrolments, federal character policies, control of education among others.

Assessment of Business Education Physical Learning Resources for The Implementation of Activity-Based Learning in Bauchi State Colleges of Education 包奇师范学院实施活动学习的商科教育体育学习资源评价

The study assessed business education physical learning resources with a view to be upgraded to support the use of Activity-based learning strategy in Bauchi state colleges of education. Two objectives and two research questions were formulated. Survey design was adopted. The population of the study was 36 business educators from colleges of education Azare and Adamu Tafawa Balewa college of education Kangere. Total population sample was used in the study. The instrument used for data collection was Business Education Resource Upgrade Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using mean and standard deviation. The study revealed that physical facilities were moderately upgraded to support the use of the Activity-based learning strategy at COE, Azare and ATBCOE, Kangere. Also, equipment and supplies were less upgraded in COE Azare and ATBCOE, Kangere to support the use of Activity-based learning strategy. It was recommended that management of COE Azare should strive through public-private partnership with industries, philanthropist, international donor agencies and their internally generated revenue for sustainability to keep the program up-to-date to the tune of time. Bauchi state government should also partner for additional funding in addition to internally generated revenue from ATAP and ATBCOE in order to provide them with adequate physical facilities, equipment supplies and consumables for business education program effectiveness in order to successfully implement Activity-based learning strategy in the school.

Attitude of Science and Technology Education Lecturers and Students Towards Using Metacognitive Strategies in Colleges of Education in North-East Nigeria 尼日利亚东北部教育学院科技教育教师和学生对使用元认知策略的态度

The study investigated the attitude of lecturers and students of Science Technology Education and Mathematics (STEM) towards metacognitive learning strategies in Colleges of Education in North-East Zone of Nigeria. One purpose was identified, one research question answered and one null hypothesis tested. The study employed descriptive survey research design in which a 16-item instrument, designed by the researchers, was used in collecting data from a sample of 138 respondents were randomly selected, made up of 56 lecturers and 82 students, drawn from 10 Colleges of Education in the North-East Zone. The instrument was validated by two experts in Science Education, drawn from Department of Education, University of Maiduguri. The validated copy was pilot tested on 25 students and 10 lecturers of Science Education programme from Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education, Kano, an institution outside the study area. Test re-test method was used to obtain the reliability of the instrument, using the Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (r) which stood at 0.87. Mean and standard deviation were used in analyzing and answering the research question. The null hypothesis was tested at 0.05 level of significance using the z-test. The study found that students of Science Technology Education and Mathematics (STEM)in Colleges of Education in the North-East Zone of Nigeria had a positive attitude towards metacognitive learning strategies. The study also found that there was no significant difference between the mean scores of the responses of lecturers and students on the students’ attitude towards metacognitive learning strategies in Colleges of Education in North-East Zone of Nigeria. It recommended among others, that Students of STEM in Colleges of Education in North-East Zone should continuously develop positive attitude towards metacognitive learning strategies which have the tendency to improve their performances, and methods should be put in place by lecturers and management of the Colleges of Education to design programmes, activities and schedules which are able to arouse students’ interest in metacognition and as well sustain such interest.

Implication of Agricultural Science Education on the Development of the Nigerian Economy 农业科学教育对尼日利亚经济发展的启示

The introduction of agricultural education in Nigeria educational system is necessary as it helps learners acquire knowledge and skills in agriculture which will improve the quantity and quality of agricultural production with a view to better the living standard of the people. Agricultural education has been progressing overtime due to the benefits derived from agriculture. The agricultural sector is a major source of livelihood for most citizens, but the paper noted that production hurdles have significantly stifled the performance of the sector. The paper argued that if the problems bedeviling agricultural sector as well as agricultural education such as inadequate funding, low societal acceptance, lack of qualified manpower, lack of good roads and infrastructures among others can be addressed, the Nigerian economy will be in a better shape as it relates to food security, employment of the youth and provision of raw materials. The paper finally concluded that agricultural education is an innovative programme aimed at self-reliant and employment creation in the country. Apart from the income generation and economic empowerment it can give to the youths, it preoccupies them and keep their minds out of mischief and violence, thereby, enhancing peace and national security which are of utmost importance to the Nigerian economy, and recommends adequate funding to acquire necessary tools and equipment, qualified teaching personnel and in-service training for the teachers as well as incentives for learners of agricultural science.

Adoption of National Language for Teaching and Learning Vocational Education for Sustainable Devlopment In Nigeria 尼日利亚可持续发展职业教育中使用本国语言教学

Naturally, language is the human vocal sounds or the arbitrary graphic representation of these sounds in writing used systematically and conventionally bya speech community for the purposes of communication, Osinsanyo (2007). On the other hand, education is seen as the overall round development of individuals, their economic, cultural and spiritual being. The process of molding and shaping personality is facilitated through the use of language as a vehicle; language plays vital roles in most known formal educational systems. This paper among other things discuss the concept of language education, proficiency, vocational achievement, vocational trainning, multilingualism and its challences, language skills in vocational education and sustainable national development. It features as a subject in the school curriculum and is used to serve as the medium of instruction in all the subjects globally. Thus, this paper seeks to consider ‘adoption of national language education for sustainable development in Nigeria’ and made the following recommendations: There is the need to develop a good language education programme for vocational school level in Nigeria ,Teachers should jointly help the pupils to develop competence in the use of their language and that of the immediate environment of schooling, and the government should make adequate funds available for the provision of regular and intensive professional capacity development for classroom teachers in the Universal Basic Education.
