Stress is a natural feeling of not being able to cope with specific demands and events. The stress can become a chronic condition if a person does not take measures to manage it. Several stress meters have been proposed over the years, however still a reduced number of variables were considered mainly the skin conductivity and/or heart rate. Additional variables can be considered such as respiratory rate can be relevant to the estimation of stress level. In this paper, a prototype to measure and predict the stress levels is presented together preliminary experimental values. Moreover, a mobile application was also developed for users' stress assessment.

Technological advance within IT & C may and will have an increasing impact over environment protection. Currently, a major issue for society in the field of environmental protection is the sustainable management of waste. This has been debated at EU level, leading to the issue of several directives for regulating, monitoring, controlling, and mitigating the impact of pollution. After joining the EU, Romania had to make serious efforts for implementing waste management by adopting European directives or transposing them into national law. As a result, private or state-owned companies involved in selling various categories of products must pay attention to waste collecting and meeting specific recycling quotas. Unfortunately, in Romania there is no software application that offers all the facilities needed by those companies. This paper presents an open system application dedicated to waste management.

This paper aims to highlight the main differences between two slightly different topologies of an Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine (IPMSM), from electromagnetic point of view. To fulfill this study, the electromagnetic and cogging torque, the circuit voltage, the coil flux-linkage and the magnetic flux density in the stator core were considered. The analyzes were validated by experimental study in the laboratory.

The fossil fuels generate by burning dust that conduct to environment’s pollution. For household and residential boilers and stoves that burn wood and fossil fuels (coal or other fuels) can be used the cylindrical-type electrostatic precipitator to diminishing the pollution. The type of high voltage sources used to supply electrostatic precipitators largely determines their collection efficiency. The paper presents the main high voltage sources that can be used to supply cylindrical-type electrostatic precipitators used in low power boilers (up to 50 kW) in the home and residential sectors. With the development of power electronics, it is relatively easy to make high voltage sources (up to 25 kV) that can be used successfully to supply electrostatic precipitators electrodes. An experimental analysis is presented for a high voltage source that uses flyback converter.

The paper quantitatively investigates the ferroresonance phenomenon for a specific class of single-phase and small power transformers. These low-voltage devices that usually exhibit an E+I iron-core shape geometry, are to be commonly found in actual electric and electronic installations. Their operation under no- or light load conditions in circuits that also include capacitive elements, favors the ferroresonance occurrence, which is usually initiated by a switching process. Thus, adopting a suitable magnetization description of the laminated transformer core, a time domain analysis is conducted by numerically solving the nonlinear and nonautonomous differential equations system that models the transients. Hence, the transformer current and voltage time variations are predicted and critically examined by modern investigation tools, specific to nonlinear dynamic systems such a ferroresonant circuit – harmonic analyses, 3D phase portrait and Poincaré map representations.

The article shows the inextricability of the problem of creating technologies for energy-saving systems of transportation and distribution of electricity, the development of technologies of Smart Grid, with the problem of limiting short-circuit currents and specific requirements for current-limiting devices. Specific recommendations on the rational choice of current-limiting can be given on the basis of their comparative analysis, classification, determination of advantages, etc. It has been found that the use of traditional current-limiting devices (high-speed fuses, circuit breakers) for the designed and newly developed low voltage energy-saving electricity transport systems does not provide a limitation of short-circuit currents to the required level. It is necessary to overestimate the nominal parameters of the elements of power supply systems to increase their resistance to short-circuit currents. This is due to the forced increase in the metal consumption of networks, the use of complicated designs of electrical devices, and an increase in the investment component in electric networks. Intensification of work towards the development of new current-limiting devices, obtaining practical results will clarify the scope of each of the current-limiting devices in power supply systems.

The aim of the paper is to propose an appropriate environment to applying a learning scenario based on ‘Open Ended laboratory’ method. Thus, the main objective of the work become ‘to create a test bench for an inter and trans disciplinary topic in the area of diesel electric traction’. The purpose of the experiment is to design a practical training situation, aimed to study the behavior of the synchronous generator - rectifier assembly, working in conditions specific to electric railway diesel traction. The expectation of the work is to develop an interdisciplinary approach of a practical situation and to advance a creative thinking of students regarding the methods of analyzing the situation and the experimental results.

The paper presents the linear global stability analysis of a laminar flow around a circular body at different Reynolds numbers. The results are validated against the literature. The numerical simulations are carried out for both steady state (time independent) and unsteady state (time dependent) flow regimes using the FreeFEM++ software. In the unsteady regime, the flow becomes unsteady when it reached a critical Reynolds number of $sim 46.5$ and a vortex shedding develops downstream the cylinder. The results of linear global stability analysis for both steady and mean flows are presented. The eigenvalues obtained from the linear stability analysis were compared to the data available in literature. The linear stability analysis of the steady flow correctly predicted the growth rate of the instabilities, but it failed to predict the frequency. The linear stability analysis of the mean flow correctly predicted the frequency of the instabilities, but it underestimated the growth rates. At last, the sensitivity maps of the wavemaker were computed to determine the zone which is more receptive to a modification of the base flow to control the onset of the instability.

The development of electrical substations follows the trend of actual digital era. New developed measuring transducers increased considerably measurement range and their contribution to efficient operation of the substation is significant. Process interface becomes the key element in new substation automation system through direct interaction with primary equipment and real time maintenance possibility. Future engineers should be prepared to use emerging digital technology. Students need to know, understand and apply all these new challenges in power engineering and communication. The testing for present study was performed on the digital medium voltage bay from “Constantin Dinculescu” Electrical Substation Laboratory – University “Politehnica” of Bucharest, Romania. The aim of this study is to familiarize students with new digital technologies and to prove the easiest of the procedures for testing digital substations.

This paper presents the development and testing of a Flyback converter for multi-chemistry battery balancer. The development was done considering that this circuit must ensure efficiency, reliability and safety for battery balancers that equip Li-Ion and Pb-acid batteries. The design was done using LtSpice software, and the testing was done in Matlab/Simulink environment using real data for several batteries.
