Ketidakpatuhan Maksim Perbualan dan Komunikasi Berkesan dalam “Soal Rakyat” 最大限度的聊天和沟通障碍对“人民问题”的影响

Keberkesanan komunikasi sering kali dikaitkan dengan pematuhan maksim perbualan (MP) yang diusulkan oleh Grice (1975). Terdapat empat MP yang diusulkan, iaitu Kuantiti (MPKTT), Kualiti (MPKLT), Hubungan (MPHUB) dan Cara (MPCR). Ketidakpatuhan MP dianggap sebagai ketidakberkesanan komunikasi. Walau bagaimanapun, kajian telah membuktikan bahawa ketidakpatuhan MP tidak bererti komunikasi yang berlangsung tidak berkesan. Analisis yang dilakukan ini menggunakan temu bual berkisar politik, iaitu Soal Rakyat (SR) sebagai korpus. SR disiarkan di televisyen. Analisis yang dilakukan mempunyai dua objektif, iaitu pertamanya, mengklasifikasi ketidakpatuhan MP dan kedua, membincangkan tujuan serta faktor berlakunya ketidakpatuhan MP dan keberkesanan komunikasi dari perspektif Melayu. Analisis yang dilakukan mengaplikasi kaedah penyelidikan kualitatif, antaranya muat turun, transkripsi dan analisis teks. Dapatan analisis memperlihatkan berlakunya ketidakpatuhan keempat-empat MP dalam SR dengan MPKTT dan MPCR memperlihatkan kecenderungan yang tinggi. Ketidakpatuhan MP tidak menjejaskan keberkesanan komunikasi berdasarkan lima faktor, iaitu latar belakang khalayak, isu semasa, budaya, konteks komunikasi dan wibawa interlokutor. Ketidakpatuhan MP dilakukan bertujuan memberikan penjelasan, membuat penegasan, melahirkan rasa tidak puas hati/marah tentang sesuatu isu dan berkata benar/jujur. Rumusannya, dapatan ini telah menyangkal MP Grice  yang dikatakan bersifat universal  dan sekali gus menolak pendapat Grundy (2008).

The Hypertextual Gateway of Elite Chinese Universities: A Genre Analysis of the ‘About’ Webpages 中国精英大学的超文本门户:“关于”网页的体裁分析

This article reports a genre study of the “About” webpages published in the websites of nine elite Chinese universities (the C9 League). This study explored the macro-level rhetorical structure and communicative purposes, followed by a micro-level discussion of the discursive strategies employed in this institutionalised genre. The findings reveal a dynamic interweaving of two distinct discursive resources – linguistic and multimodal – rhetorically organised through the interplay between the mixing of thirteen move types and various interdiscursive elements. The analytical results indicate that the trend of marketisation, other than a predominant rhetorical feature of being informative, indeed influences the institutional web structuring through employing branding strategies to promote academic excellence as well as strengthen relationship with web readers. The dynamic interactions unfolded by this research not only deepen users’ knowledge of a previously undiscovered yet discursively complex web genre, but also contribute to theoretical and methodological development in genre studies in this digital era.

The Impact of Incorporating Stylistic Models of Inversion in Teaching Grammar on Students’ Comprehension of Literary Text 在语法教学中引入倒置文体模式对学生理解文学文本的影响

Pedagogical stylistics increases EFL learners’ awareness about the way the language functions in different texts. It also enhances innovative learning and teaching. This study aims at knowing the impact of incorporating stylistic models of inversion in teaching grammar on students’ comprehension of literary texts. It also aims to explore the learners’ perceptions about incorporating them in grammar courses. The models were adopted by (Galperin, 1977). A total of 85 EFL learners at King Khalid University participated in this study; 41 are students of Grammar III and are divided into two groups (15, 26); 44 are students of Grammar IV and are divided into two groups (20, 24). The second phase of the research is a unified long text exam that contains stylistic models of inversion in literary texts and is given to all students. Generally, the post-test results show that the participants identify stylistic models of inversion that help them understand the meaning of texts. Moreover, the quantitative approach shows the learners' preference for incorporating models in grammar courses because they are important in comprehending literary texts. The study recommends considering stylistic implications in teaching grammar in general and stylistic models of inversion in particular.

Locative Constructions in Dangme Dangme中的位置结构

This paper explores locative constructions in Dangme, a language that belongs to the Kwa family of languages. The paper discusses the components of the basic locative construction in Dangme. It also examines the syntax and semantics of verbs of position and verbs of change of location that function in the basic locative constructions in Dangme. Data were drawn from mainly primary sources from 14 native speakers of Dangme. I demonstrate that postposition and locative nouns mainly express location in Dangme. There are a set of nouns that also function as indicators of location and direction to places. It is to be noted that in locative constructions, the postposition class and the adjunct of location indicate the location of entities in Dangme as in other languages. The postposition class can take the form of a word or a phrase. The phrase is made up of an NP and locative morphemes: mi ‘inside’, se ‘back’, nɔ/hiɔwe ‘top’, kpɛti ‘middle’, he ‘side’ nya ‘edge of, tue ‘edge’ and sisi ‘under’. The data also revealed that in Dangme, a locative morpheme or phrase can co-occur with a positional verb in a construction to express the position of an entity at a location.

The Sexist Occupational Representation in English Textbooks of Iranian High schools 伊朗高中英语教材中的性别主义职业表征

The present study aims to investigate the occupational roles assigned to women and men in three volumes of English textbooks of Iranian high schools (Birjandi, Soheili, Nowruzi, & Mahmoodi, 2006) using Hartman and Judd’s (1978) framework. The results of the inferential and descriptive analyses demonstrated that these textbooks were 99% sexist in regards to occupational roles as men were depicted in high-status jobs, but women were represented in low-status jobs. In addition, men were manifested in a greater range of occupations than women.

Penguasaan Kemahiran Membaca dan Menulis Bahasa Melayu dalam Kalangan Murid Bukan Penutur Natif di Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (SJK)

Ketidaklancaran kemahiran membaca dan kelemahan penguasaan kemahiran menulis dilihat sebagai punca kemerosotan pencapaian akademik belakangan ini di sekolah rendah. Kajian dijalankan untuk mengenal pasti tahap penguasaan membaca dan menulis dalam bahasa Melayu murid di Sekolah Rendah Jenis Kebangsaan (SJK). Seramai 414 orang sampel kajian dari 5 buah sekolah SJK telah dipilih. Dua instrumen yang diguna pakai untuk mendapatkan data iaitu Ujian Profesiensi UPBM_SR dan Tahap Skor UPBM_SR. Data diproses menggunakan IBMSPSS Versi 23 dengan reka bentuk tinjauan keratan rentas. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan terdapat sebanyak 65.2% responden tidak menguasai kemahiran menulis dan 39.6% tidak lancar membaca dalam bahasa Melayu. Pemahaman input kemahiran membaca dan menulis dilihat satu-satunya mekanisme yang dapat meningkatkan profesiensi linguistik asas. Peranan semua pihak perlu digembleng untuk melahirkan generasi yang kompeten menggunakan bahasa kebangsaan di Malaysia.

In Australia, more than 33% of total international students are Mandarin speakers. Mandarin has become a common language in the international student community in Australia. Speaking Mandarin is important while studying in an English-speaking country. This article explores Chinese Malaysian students’ language proficiency and their language attitudes. Five participants were selected from an Australian university, and were interviewed. Their language proficiency was classified at five levels and in the questionnaire the participants were required to self-rate their proficiency for all the languages that they could speak. The findings show that three of the five participants preferred speaking English in Australia while the other two felt more confident of speaking Mandarin. All participants claimed that English and Mandarin are equally important for them when they are living in Australia. In contrast, the five participants’ Bahasa Melayu proficiencies had largely decreased because of less practice and negative attitudes.

Domain semantik mengandungi sejumlah kata-kata yang berkolokasi dalam medannya dan kata-kata ini mempunyai fungsi atribut. Bagi memperlihatkan fungsi ini dalam bahasa iklan, dua domain semantik produk kecantikan wanita bagi muka dan badan dianalisis kata kerjanya. Produk kecantikan yang dianalisis merupakan iklan dari D’HERBS dan Vida Beauty. Antara metod yang diaplikasi ialah syot layar, analisis teks dan analisis frekuensi. Data dikumpulkan dari iklan yang disiarkan dalam talian. Analisis ini mempunyai dua objektif, iaitu mengenal pasti kata kerja yang lazim dan membincangkan persamaan kata kerja yang lazim digunakan dalam kedua-dua domain. Analisis yang dilakukan mengaplikasikan kerangka kerja Leech (1966) dengan penambahan skop domain semantik, hubungan leksikal dan analisis frekuensi. Ini dilakukan kerana kerangka kerja Leech didapati kurang komprehensif bagi menjelaskan fungsi atribut kata kerja yang dianalisis dalam bahasa iklan. Dapatan analisis memperlihatkan terdapat dua sifat kata kerja, iaitu berkolokasi secara spesifik dan umum. Kata kerja yang berkolokasi secara spesifik merujuk pada hubungan langsung dengan domain yang dirujuk dan sebaliknya bagi umum. Kata yang berkolokasi secara spesifik dengan kecantikan muka, antaranya mencerah/mencerahkan; menganjal/menganjalkan, manakala kecantikan badan, mengurang, menurunkan/turun; mengharumkan/mewangikan. Sama ada kata kerja berkolokasi secara spesifik ataupun umum, isu yang penting dalam bahasa iklan adalah penggunaan kata kerja yang mampu mempengaruhi khalayak. This analysis has two objectives, identifying common verbs and discussing commonly used verbs in both domains. The analysis applied Leech’s framework (1966) with the addition of the semantics domain, lexical relation and frequency analysis as Leech’s framework was found to be less comprehensive to explain the attribute functions of the verb. Findings show that there were two properties of verb, specific and general collocation in the domains.  Verb with specific collocated refer to direct relationships with referred domains and vice versa for the general one. Pengajaran Bahasa Melayu dalam Kalangan Pelajar Asing: Analisis Pola Kesalahan Tatabahasa dalam Penulisan 外语系高级语言教学:写作中的言语错误模式分析

Kajian ini menghuraikan kesalahan tatabahasa dalam kalangan pelajar antarabangsa di Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). Objektif utama kajian ini ialah mengenal pasti jenis-jenis kesalahan tatabahasa dalam aspek penulisan. Data kajian diperolehi dari bahagian penulisan dalam kertas jawapan para pelajar untuk kursus Bahasa Melayu Komunikasi Lanjutan pada peperiksaan akhir. Pendekatan analisis kontrastif dan analisis kesalahan diaplikasikan dalam menganalisis penulisan pelajar asing yang terlibat dalam kajian ini. Terdapat 38 orang pelajar yang terlibat dan mereka berasal dari negara Bangladesh, Jepun, Morocco, Tajikistan, Afrika, China, Indonesia dan Brunei. Terdapat 215 kesalahan tatabahasa yang telah dikenal pasti dalam kajian ini. Kesalahan tersebut dikategorikan kepada 2 aspek, aspek pertama ialah morfologi yang merangkumi kesalahan ortografi 76%, dan leksikal 1%. Manakala yang kedua ialah aspek sintaksis yang merangkumi unsur kelewahan 15%, hukum D-M 8%. Peratusan menunjukkan kesalahan ortografi mencatatkan kekerapan yang paling tinggi. Kesalahan ortografi dibahagikan kepada 3 kategori berdasarkan proses yang berlaku iaitu penukaran huruf dengan huruf lain (^), penambahan huruf dalam perkataan (^^) dan pengguguran huruf dalam perkataan (^^^). Kesalahan ini dipengaruhi oleh latar belakang negara dan bahasa ibunda yang berbeza. Kajian ini turut mencadangkan penekanan dan bimbingan yang berbeza perlu diberikan kepada para pelajar yang terdiri daripada pelbagai latar belakang. Justeru teknik pengajaran seperti memberi ganjaran (seperti pujian) serta kepelbagaian strategi pengajaran yang menarik berasaskan teknologi dapat meningkat motivasi dalam mempelajari bahasa Melayu sebagai bahasa asing.

The Teacher’s Perspective on the Impact of Politeness Strategies in the Indonesian English Textbook on Student’s Communicative Competence 印尼语英语教材中礼貌策略对学生交际能力影响的教师视角

The purpose of this study was to investigate teacher's perspectives of the impact of politeness strategies in the Indonesian English textbooks on student's communicative competence. The participants were two English teachers who taught in one of the senior high schools in Yogyakarta, Indonesia and five students. Discourse analysis of the interview data was conducted. The results showed that the teachers have a positive point of view about the authority of politeness strategies, reflected in Indonesian English textbooks, on their student's communicative competence. Unfortunately, the teachers could not explain in more detail the aspects of communicative competence which could be influenced by politeness strategies in the English textbooks. The interviews with the students indicated that politeness strategies reflected in their English textbooks supported the student's linguistic competence and strategic competence.
摘要本研究旨在探讨印尼语英语教材中礼貌策略对学生交际能力的影响。参与者是在印尼日惹市一所高中任教的两名英语教师和五名学生。对访谈数据进行语篇分析。结果表明,教师对印尼语英语教材中礼貌策略的权威性对学生交际能力的影响持肯定态度。遗憾的是,英语教材中礼貌策略对交际能力的影响,教师并没有详细地解释。对学生的访谈表明,英语教材中的礼貌策略支持学生的语言能力和策略能力。
