This text concerns the organization of a unified information space for accepting student application documents submitted to the Moscow Power Engineering Institute (MPEI). It examines the task of exchanging information between the main institute of MPEI and its branches. It presents options for a distributed database and information exchange between local databases. Master-slave replication of distributed data is examined.

The report gives examples of modeling the propagation of radio waves over an uneven terrestrial surface under difficult conditions with allowance for forest massifs using the parabolic equation method with fast Fourier transform. The proposed methodology can be used for educational, methodological and research purposes, for the operational prediction of propagation of radio waves in a specific locality.

This paper describes an Internet of Things (IoT) course creation experience, where open educational resources were combined with academic practical seminars. The course allows future engineers to understand in detail the technologies that apply to the IoT, what methodologies of automation device development are used in the industry, principles of network connection and communication, and how the interactions of these devices with the physical world are organized. The developed training methodology can be used to get predictable results in a student's group.

In this paper, we consider the construction of a system of smart wireless sensors for monitoring the parameters of the evaporation duct. A brief description of the theoretical foundations of the evaporation duct in the troposphere is given. Described the process of system development, the structure of the sensors used, and the algorithm for processing and accumulating data.

This paper describes the decision making support system that serves to coordinate actions of universities, companies and students in competency building. The system provides informational support for the tasks of university educational programs improvement, search for educational partners by companies, career planning and some others. The basis for decision-making is the assessment of the students' and graduates' competencies compliance with the labor market requirements. The complexity of the assessment task is caused by the difference in definitions and interpretation of the competencies' essence, the weak structuring of documents containing requirements descriptions for competencies and the high speed of changes in the requirements. The influence of the latter circumstance is compensated by the availability of a large amount of information characterizing the change in the requirements in the form of vacancy descriptions presented in the recruitment systems. The proposed method of compliance assessment is based on Naive Bayes Classifier that works with structured quantitative data. In order to convert weakly structured competencies and position description to the required format text processing algorithms modified in accordance with the characteristics of available data are used. Data structure that serves to coordinate competencies description presented in different data sources is described in the paper.

The paper shows how an interdisciplinary approach can be applied in teaching. The approach is called STEM or PMI. We illustrate the advantages of using the software in interdisciplinary subjects. We use the van der Waals equation to show which sort of problems can be solved. We discuss several possible types of teaching, from collaborative or individual learning to the teacher-centered approach. Because the topics are usually complex, we prefer to use some pre-prepared themes.

The experience of using the SimInTech software package (SP) for the development of virtual laboratory works on the topic “Power plants and substations electrical equipment tests and modes” is considered. The main features of the SP-SimInTech are reflected. It is shown that the SP-SimInTech corresponds to simulation system formulated requirements. This system should be suitable for the development of virtual laboratory work on the topic. Specialized mathematical models developed for virtual laboratory work in the SimInTech dynamic simulation environment are listed. An example of the realized model and calculation results is shown. Questions of virtual laboratory works development guidelines are considered

The paper describes the recent experience of implementation of the online course DriveConstructor in MPEI training process. This course (educational complex) is designed to help the students and university professors. The course subjects include several disciplines like electric machines, electric drives and electromechanical systems. The course contains web-based software, electronic textbook and collection of tasks. The course could be used for both self-study and regular study under professor's supervision within lectures and seminars.

The paper presents the final results of the restructuring of the course of discrete mathematics and, as its continuation, the course of mathematical logic and the theory of algorithms in a technical university based on a constructive approach. Modernization has affected both methodical aspects of courses composition, as well as forms of organization of students' academic work. Among others, the connection of computer support of training with pedagogical methods of organization of “computer-free” work of students is regarded. Part of the methodological and technical aspects, such as the development by students' teams of computer algebra systems, the verification of constructive solutions, including the use of self-verified tasks, were presented in earlier works with the participation of authors. Based on post-questioning it is shown that students of technical universities are inclined to constructive activity and positively assess the influence of constructive tasks on mastering mathematical concepts. The developed materials have also been tested in the framework of Olympiad in Discrete Mathematics and Theoretical Informatics for entrants.
