Buildings of historical value are gradually disappearing under the idle eyes of passive authorities. The purpose of this research is to analyze and describe what steps are necessary in order to include the valuable socialist modernist architecture from the Republic of Moldova in the world architectural heritage. Field data presenting the current state of 4 socialist modernist landmarks in the Republic of Moldova found these buildings in an advanced state of decay and requiring immediate intervention. The most effective way to improve the state of such historical buildings is to create appropriate legislation that would include them in the global heritage network.

In the period under research, the geography of the activity of the Main Directorate for resettlement and selecting organized labor of the Moldavian SSR was radically reduced, mostly to the geographical borders of Kazakhstan. Outside of those selected for organized labor, different categories of the population migrated towards Kazakhstan in particular the youth and skilled workers. The majority of those sent were brought to Kazakhstan by passenger trains, which reached the destination in 6-7 days. Some migrants were put on freight trains. In the second half of the 1950s, and, in particular, during the 1960s, the fulfilment of plans on the selection and resettlement was secured with increasingly considerable efforts. The causes for this were both the growing requirements towards the quality of the workers, deployed in Kazakhstan, and the gradual improvement of the economic situation in Moldova. This required the leadership of the Directorate to seek new arguments for justifying the failures in the execution of the approved plans, with these failures becoming more frequent.

The development of a Catholic press in Romania was a constant wish of the Catholic Church. However, the realization of this project did not lead to unitary actions coordinated by the local, national ecclesiastical authority. It rather resulted in the personal actions of some members of the clergy who were later approved and supported by the Church. The establishment of the Presa Bună (The Good Press) Institute in Iaşi represents such a project that centered on Anton Gabor, one of the promoters of the establishment of a Catholic press in Romania. The issue of the establishment of a Catholic press in the diocese of Iasi, which covers the entire area of Moldova, was first discussed at the beginning of the 20th century (more precisely, in 1908), when priest Iosif Malinowski tried to publish a Catholic journal he intended to name “The Catholic Sheet”. In 1913 Monsignor Anton Gabor began publishing the magazine “Light of the Christian”, a pilot project and a more personal undertaking. However, he managed to maintain and develop this publication. Still, Anton Gabor (one of the most important supporters of the Catholic press in Romania) wanted more than simply editing a magazine.

This study deals with the involvement of the Soviet secret services and the Communist International in organizing the anti-Romanian rebellion in Southern Bessarabia in September 1924. The article contributes to a better understanding of the Soviet Union’s secret policy towards Romania, focusing on the Bessarabian question. The basic element of this policy was the strategy of „active espionage” which, in general, meant the creation by the Soviet special services of paramilitary formations on the territory of the states bordering on the USSR. These formations were designed for the purpose of diversions, terrorist attacks and other subversive actions, such as organizing rebellions or coup d’etats. According to the author, the events unfolding in September 1924 in Tatar-Bunar were prepared by the Soviet secret services with the aid and cooperation of the Communist International, through the Balkan Communist Federation. The author used a vast array of archival materials, especially numerous unpublished documents from the archives in Chisinau and Bucharest

The great majority of Moldova’s agricultural land was decollectivized and privatized in the period 1995-2000 through the National Land Program, which was primarily financed by the U.S. Government. In this memoir, John Todd Stewart, who was U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova from 1995 to 1998, describes the origin and development of the “Land” program, which began with a single collective farm and rapidly expanded to all parts of the country.
