This academic paper focuses on digitalization and higher education for sustainable development (HESD). A systemic review of 67 articles published in Web of Science (WOS) in the past decade was undertaken. The articles were chosen because of their relevance to this era of digitalization and the role of higher education in promoting knowledge sharing with respect to sustainable development. The analysis used six categories: journals, publication year, research design, industry sectors, topics, and opportunities and challenges. However, there is lack in exploring the recent trends, possible application industries and the essence of HESD in the context of digitalization and knowledge sharing in different regions of the world. The main aim of this article is to report on a meta-analysis consisting of a systematic review of the available literature related to digitalization and knowledge sharing. The study revealed that current research on sustainable development lack mathematical models and empirical tools. Keywords: Digital age; Digital higher education; Higher education for sustainable development; Knowledge sharing; Sustainable practices,

The purpose of this research was to investigate how students’ academic achievement in cell biology can be improved using animation-based instruction. The research adopted a pre-test, post-test and control group quasi-experimental design. The treatment group was taught using a lecture aided by video animation, while the control group utilised the traditional lecture method. The results show that students in the treatment group obtained a significantly higher achievement level compared to the control group. The items for which the achievements are superior are those relating to the structure of the cell membrane and membrane transport. These two items are considered among the most difficult for students to understand because they deal with dynamic and complex processes. This study implies that the lecture based-animation improves the learning of abstract concepts and complex processes that poses many understanding problems among students such as those in cell biology. Studies confirmed that students’ critical thinking skills (CTS) and their problem-solving skills (PSS) tend to be low. Thus, this quantitative study aims to improve students’ CTS and PSS using Project-Based Learning (PjBL). In a quasi-experimental design, a total of 50 pre-service chemistry teachers from a public university in Indonesia were recruited as participants. To collect data, the Critical Thinking Skills Test (CTST) and the Problem-Solving Skills Test (PSST) were pre- and post-tested. Paired and independent samples t-tests and Cohen’s d were executed to explain the difference in CTS and PSS scores before and after treatment. The results indicated that there was a significant increase from pre- to post-test in terms of CTS and PSS scores. In addition, there is a significant difference in the CTS and PSS scores between the two groups in favor of the experimental group. It can be concluded that PjBL is an effective method to promote CTS and PSS in the General Chemistry course. As a powerful method, we recommend that lecturers implement PjBL to promote CTS and PSS as an alternative to online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.
