A single-stage three-phase AC-DC converter is presented in this paper. The front semi-stage of the proposed converter, which is operated in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM), is utilized for power factor correction and the rear semi-stage of the proposed converter, which is operated in continuous conduction mode (CCM) at heavy loads and in DCM at light loads, is employed for step-down voltage conversion. The proposed converter can achieve almost unity power factor, low total harmonic distortion of input current (THDi), and adjustable DC output voltage. The voltage stress across the DC-link capacitor is low. Moreover, the steady-state analyses of voltage gain and the boundary operating condition are discussed. Finally, experimental results are provided to verify theoretical analyses.

This paper deals with a new resonant gate-drive circuit for power MOSFETs. The proposed gate-drive circuit is characterized by a resonant inductor connected in series to the gate terminal of the MOSFET. It is possible to charge or discharge the input capacitance of the MOSFET by using the series resonance between the inductor and the input capacitance. Experimental results are shown to verify the viability of the resonant gate-drive circuit. As a result, the proposed resonant gate-drive circuit reduces its power consumption by a factor of ten, compared with a conventional one. A high-frequency MOSFET inverter driven by the proposed gate-drive circuits exhibits a high efficiency more than 99% at a 360-kHz and 1-kW operation.

In the control of PWM rectifier, it can restrain harmonic and interference effectively by constructing a virtual line-flux-linkage to serve as the oriented vector. However, there are some problems in the conventional method, such as the error of amplitude, the shift of phase angle and the nondeterminacy of initial oriented angle. In the thesis, two one-stage low-pass filters are adopted instead of the pure integrator in the virtual line-flux-linkage observer, which can steady the phase and amplitude. Furthermore, a novel method of voltage estimate at the three-level rectifier terminals is advanced based on the simplified SVPWM algorithm. The good dynamic and static performance under the proposed control strategy is verified by simulation and experiment.

This paper presents the design of a digital control IC which is intended for controlling thyristors to produce a constant current source via a three-phase controlled rectifier. The architecture of the digital control IC consists of three major parts: a three-phase controlled triggering circuit, an inverse cosine look-up table, and a proportional-integral current controller. All the three parts have been designed using VHDL language and linked with ModelSim for verification the function of control circuit in the Simulink, ModelSim and PSIM cosimulation environment. The designed digital control IC has been implemented on an Altera Flex 10K FPGA logic device. Simulation and experimental results are shown to verify the viability of the proposed digital control IC properly.

The 400Hz medium frequency power supply is a key component feeding the critical loads on ships and airplanes. In order to solve some problems met in the existed system, this paper developed a complete mathematical model and operation strategy for the doubly fed induction machine (DFIM) based motor-generator frequency conversion system, including the process of starting, grid synchronization and vector-controlled speed regulation of the system. A unique feature of the proposed system is that the two synchronous speeds of the DFIM and the generator are different, therefore, only a standard one quadrant AC-DC-AC converter with about 1/6 power rating of the DFIM is needed, which benefits from low cost and simple structure. Furthermore, the rotor inverter is also used as the starter to limit the starting current in the DFIM. A new grid synchronization scheme is also proposed to achieve the soft connection by actively adjusting the DFIM stator voltage angle and amplitude. Experimental results with a scaled 7.5kW system are presented to show the validity of the proposed method.

A constant power control strategy of electronic ballast for Metal Halide lamps is proposed in this paper. It is based on digital control with MCU controller. The lamp current is adjusted to ensure the lamp voltage variation in a small range according to the negative resistance characteristics of the Metal Halide lamps. Therefore, the lamp power is maintained constantly without any calculation. It is simple and efficient because of avoiding power calculation.

Rotor pole numbers of a Doubly Excited Brushless Reluctance Machine (DEBRM) system profoundly affect its magnetic coupling between the primary and secondary windings, and torque capability. This paper presents a comparison study of a DEBRM with 3 different pole numbers by using two analytical models, the winding function linear model and the 2D transient nonlinear model. The magnetic fields and torque production of the DEBRM are investigated. The results are used to reveal the significant impact of different pole numbers to the interaction of the primary/secondary windings and torque production.

In this paper, a novel direct-drive wind generation system based on three-phase Z-source inverter is presented. Mathematical model of three-phase Z-source inverter is proposed by combining the traditional PWM rectifier model and equivalent model of the z-network. How variational shoot-through duty ratio affect the system is analyzed. The control method of acquiring stable Z-network capacitor voltage and decoupled d-q axis current is proposed. The relationship between variety of the shoot-through duty ratio and one of generator speed is expatiated, and a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm based on maximum power curve is designed. The whole process of tracking maximum power is analyzed by sample chart. The results of experiment on the designed prototype verify the correctness of theoretical analysis and the validity of control method.

The paper deals with the control of the multiple armature-winding hybrid-excitation generator(MAHEG) which is used for wind generation. Thus, a rectifier is required between the generator and DC bus. A diode rectifier is preferred here due to its great reliability and because it is also a low-cost solution. Discontinuous PWM have gained special attention for their reduced switching losses. According to the characteristic of grid-connected inverters, the mode of DPWM1 is adopted. Grid voltage orientation vector control strategy is adopted for both inverter, so the active and the reactive power can be independently controlled by d axis current and q axis current. Simulated and experimental results verify the feasibility and correctness for the control strategy.

To extract a single order harmonic component from single phase voltage or current is a difficult work by the existed instantaneous reactive power theory, which is dominant in the detection of the total harmonic components in three-phase system. A novel detection approach of single order harmonic in single-phase system based on discrete Fourier transformation with smooth moving window is discussed in this paper, and an incremental algorithm is presented to improve the dynamic response. Both simulation and experimental results show that the approach has the advantages of high accuracy and rapid response, and it can satisfy the requirement of active power filter for harmonic mitigation.
