A long thinking process leads from the first idea to a well-organized and curriculum based course program. This process has outstanding importance where theoretical, methodological, and practical issues must be considered and coordinated as in the case of higher education for engineering. This paper makes an attempt to emphasize some of the critical elements in this process in order to analyze possibilities for the application of recent computer modeling techniques in planning and application of course programs. In this paper, background and essential issues are outlined in order to introduce the problem. Following this, improved higher education program features are revealed and organized considering resources, environment, as well as decisions on course elements and characteristics. In the rest of the paper, organization of a course by a new application of tracks and modules as well as a new concept of course feature driven module are explained. Practice aspect of model based course development is emphasized in the reported work.

This paper presents a practical solution for monitoring students in education. This was achieved by the utilization of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology. The RFID system was integrated with the server database through Ethernet network. The database was developed in such a manner that it allows the examination of students activities in order to improve the quality of classes. Using the system described in this article will make it considerably easier to achieve a better insight into students activities which will ultimately led to better understanding of their needs.

This work presents the performance scorecards which have lately been used more and more as a means of visual representation of business indicators of companies. The terminology in connection of this latest trend in reporting (presenting values) key indicators of performance of businesses is not unequivocal, there are various terms used for the same subject: Scorecards, Enterprise Dashboards, Balanced Scorecards, Performance Dashboard, KPI Summary, etc. The idea of performance scorecards is based on the method of Balance Scorecards [6] but the number of indicators and specific indicators is not limited to those defined in the work of Kaplan and Norton. The representation of the entire commerce, i.e. keeping track of the planned performances is easy as the graphical reports in the form of scorecards is extremely expressive an easily understandable for business men. Moreover, they can suggest the necessary activities depending on the value of the indicator, i.e. the deviation from the planned values. Based on this the Scorecards have become necessary in performance control of the entire enterprise, some its organizational units or specific important functions. This work also includes the possible contents of the hierarchical scorecard for performance control of electrical energy distribution.

The paper analyzes the procedure of image decomposition with a quadtree. The main goal of the paper is to present one of the models of image decomposition with a quadtree implemented within the program package Matlab 7.0. A precondition for designing such a model is the durability of the programs that represent various image characteristics and enable particular image processing and transformation. The paper consists of three main chapters: “Image compression and decomposition”, “Decomposition image model with a quadtree” and “Results and analyses of image decomposition with a quadtree”.

As an important driver element, the pneumatic artificial muscle (PAM) is widely used in industrial applications for many automation purposes thanks to their variety of advantages. The design of a stable robust position controller for PAM is difficult since it is a very nonlinear time-variant controlled plant because of the compressibility of air, air mass flow rate through the valve, etc. The main contribution of this paper is a robust position control method based on sliding mode for a robot arm, driven by pneumatic muscle actuator. Finally, it presents experimental results.

The possibility of application of fuzzy sets in global recessive business conditions is significant in investment processes on emerging markets. Thus, in this paper, we investigate the application of fuzzy numbers as functions of handling the imprecise conditions, volatility peculiarities and attributes of emerging markets. The research covers the sample representing stock indexes on emerging markets in selected Central and Eastern European countries.

This paper describes the development of a prototype fuzzy sets based expert system for financial applications, an assistant to a human expert. Computer implementation of the model is considered, and directions for possible further work are pointed out. The advantages of the approach are discussed, as well as the possibilities for more complex models in the field, based on type-2 fuzzy sets. Conclusions are given.

At the University of Novi Sad, Technical Faculty “Mihajlo Pupin” in Zrenjanin the research has been conducted in the field of preschool children needs when using computers and designing the software just for them. It has been noticed that there is no unique technology for making software aimed at the specific user's age. Therefore, a lot of software for preschool children has been developed as a part of the subject Projecting the Educational Software and this work is showing the interactive software model for learning colours and shapes. The mathematical model of the interactive software according to the Fitts' Law has been presented, too.

The author tries to present and analyze the influence of theoreticians of administrative management on developing the classical school in the narrow sense, i.e. taylorism. In the first part, the author considers the thoughts of Fayol, the most eminent theoretician of administrative management concerning the enterprise organizational structure and the principles of successful management. It is followed by the review of H. Gant's first ideas of labor relation humanization, then the teachings of Urwick and J.D. Mooney on rational coordination and job distribution. At the end, the author considers the importance of large organization departmentalization. In conclusion, he gives the concise comparison of differences and similarities in conceptions of representatives of the scientific organization (teylorists) and theoreticians of administrative management.

This paper describes the implementation and configuration of the wireless sensor network using the Sun SPOT platform. Sun SPOT is a small electronic device made by Sun Microsystems. They have a wide variety of sensors attached to it. Sun SPOTs are programmed in a Java programming language, with the Java VM run on the hardware itself. It has a quite powerful main processor running the Java VM “Squawk” and which serves as an IEEE 802.15.4 wireless network node. The SPOT has flexible power management and can draw from rechargeable battery, USB host or be externally powered. The Sun SPOT is designed to be a flexible development platform, capable of hosting widely differing application modules. As it is well known, greenhouses have a very extensive surface where the climate conditions can vary at the different points. In the last years, WSNs are becoming an important solution to this problem.
