Integrating Environmental Phenomena in the Initial Architecture Studio: Reflections on Modeling of Convective Currents in Living Spaces 在最初的建筑工作室中融入环境现象:对生活空间中对流建模的思考

In the seminal vision of Donald Schön about the design process, this is defined as a conversation between the designer and the materials of a situation. Later, Nigel Cross would add that modeling is the language of that conversation par excellence. In the light of these ideas, this descriptive article discusses the role of analog models in enabling and enhancing reflective design and the inclusion of environmental topics, usually absent from the initial architectural design studios. To illustrate the potential that modeling has in these cases, a first-year studio exercise in which modeling of heat, specifically of convective currents, is shown. Finally, the authors reflect on the relationship between concepts, the cases presented and the learning opportunities that arise together with the responsibilities of educators.

Study of Variants of Housing Buildings of Masonry Reinforced at Seismic Zones 地震区砌体加筋住宅变型研究

According to the Cuban earthquake standard NC 46:1999, the ERAD method was applied to study variants of 2- to 5-story reinforced masonry houses to be built on solid ground S2 in southeastern Cuba. The modeling was carried out with finite elements (shells) using the SAP 2000NL v19 program. The seismic load is obtained through the equivalent static method and response spectrum method. The evaluation of selected global and local control parameters is carried out by comparing their results, changing the number of floors or floor coverings and roof waterproofing, and comparing variants with different seismic hazard levels. The evaluation confirmed the conceptual design, simplified the structural design of the resulting variants, and distinguished the level of structural behavior.

Influence of the Dead Loads in the Seismic Design of Ductile Frames of Reinforced Concrete 自重对钢筋混凝土延性框架抗震设计的影响

This paper evaluate the influence of the dead load reduction in the seismic design of a public building to be built at the zone of bigger seismic hazard of Cuba on a soil type D by Cuban seismic code NC 46:2017. The evaluation was carried out by comparing the structural design of a heavy and a lightened variant, based on the design of the critical sections of the superstructure including the joints. The seismic solicitations by static equivalent method are offered by computers program SAP 2000NL version and combined with gravitational loads by actual Cuban code. The structural design was carried out by the limit resistant capacity method, using the Excel Workbook DISRESPLAS and consulting the design formulations in international reference standards. Finally, it is shown that a moderate reduction of dead load significantly rationalizes the structural design and simplifies the construction details, in particular, the joints.

Theory in Architectural Restoration - Concept and Object 建筑修复理论——概念与对象

The concern to preserve the architectural heritage, for as long as a century and a half, has accumulated a wide series of theoretical positions, which have been used to lead the work aimed to safeguard this architecture. However, even now, many contradictions are observed in the results along the practices, grouping up these results into three general trends: "consistent", "apparent" and "indifferent". Hence, the theoretical framework in the present work is established to carry out and show the synthesis of the statements of Socrates and Karl Popper, inquiring the classical theorists' considerations on what the architectural restoration is and what their focus object should be, so as to demonstrate that in the practice of restoration, a series of assumptions are entangled because of the ambiguities, in the theory of the discipline, as much as in the definition and delimitation of the focus object, and even in the dispute, between quite a few areas of the human activity. Because of the nature of this theoretical analysis, the method used to carry it out follows the critical rationalism.

Geotechnical Zoning for the Construction of an Irrigation District in the Department of Atlántico - Colombia 在Atlántico省建设灌溉区的岩土工程区划-哥伦比亚

For the construction of an irrigation district, the geotechnical conditions of the existing soils in the municipality of Ponedera (Atlántico, Colombia) were analyzed, by means of manual sampling and standard permeability test (SPT). This information was processed in a database for analysis. The soil types were obtained, most of which were classified as inorganic clays and silts (CL and ML), to a lesser extent, silty and clayey sands (SM and SC), and maps of soil types zoning and allowable capacity were drawn in GIS. No water table was found in the investigated soil area. Following the guidelines of the Colombian Earthquake Resistant Regulation (NSR-10) and the RAS, the usefulness for future studies has been concluded. Finally, the soil explored can support load capacities at a depth of 3.0 m of 31.8 ton/m2.

Surface Engineering - Application on Wear 表面工程-在磨损上的应用

In this article, engineering surface application is introduced as a new concept. The basis of this concept is the understanding that different surface technologies are applied to the design of existing engineering components, but, it is necessary to know that surface engineering would cover only part of the design of the component, the surface treatment to be applied should also be known. This is because, surfaces with a high index of hardening due to deformation, are resistant to severe adhesive wear, abrasion and pickling, but they should not have the same resistance to other types of wear. It means that a correlation must be established between the surface quality and the pickling resistance. In this article, it is shown that the use of high compatibility metallic materials is preferred and that a correlation can be established between the surface quality and the pickling resistance by a simple number. The selection of materials and methods of obtaining the engineering surfaces for tribological applications, depends to a large extent on the mechanism and particular type of predominant wear. Therefore, the selection of materials resistant to wear will be analyzed depending on the type of wear in question.

Geotechnical Zoning of the Soils of the City of Valledupar Using a GIS 利用GIS对巴列杜帕尔市土壤进行岩土区划

The geotechnical zoning of the soils was carried out in Valledupar (Cesar) by collecting data in various soil laboratories and obtaining samples. The research database was created. The types of soils found were SC, SM and GW identified in all the communes of the city. The water table was found at a depth of 1.2 m. The document contains the necessary information for geotechnical studies of the area where it is concluded that the city can support building foundations of more than 10 levels, in areas with high percentages of gravel, and these areas will be the ones with the highest incidence when increasing coverage of aqueduct and sewerage networks. It is the first geotechnical research study through geographic information models in Valledupar, which indicates the generation of a technical and bibliographic resource for quick consultation.

Architectural Design of Jobs for People with Disabilities in Special Employment Workshops 特殊就业工场残障人士工场建筑设计

Special employment centers and occupational centers have enormous relevance for the socio-labor integration of people with disabilities. The following work tried to bring to this type of centers the basic techniques of work study, ergonomics and anthropometry organized in a procedure that contributes to the adjustment of jobs to the capacities of people with disabilities through the architectural design of the same as one more tool that facilitates the aforementioned integration. With the procedure, the physical, psychological and sensory demands that are required for each activity were analyzed and, based on this, an analysis of the necessary adaptations for the performance of these people in their positions was carried out, proceeding to the architectural redesign of the same. Throughout the research, techniques and tools such as checklists, interviews, questionnaires and anthropometric design were used as a fundamental technique to develop the architectural design of the positions under study, taking into consideration the necessary adaptations to the person with a disability.

With the procedure, the physical, psychological and sensory demands that are required for each activity were analyzed and, based on this, an analysis of the necessary adaptations for the performance of these people in their positions was carried out, proceeding to the architectural redesign of the same. The objective of the work was to design a study material that would favor the learning process of the quality management system in construction in civil engineering, when verifying bibliographic insufficiencies that would facilitate it. Investigative methods of theoretical and empirical level were used that established premises for the elaboration of the same and that propitiated the necessary technical knowledge on the subject. The material was submitted to the criteria of specialists, who considered its elaboration very necessary and evaluated its structure and content as very adequate, responding to the determination of needs for which it was made.

Architectural Space and the Oppression of Women in Mexican Houses 建筑空间与墨西哥房屋中女性的压迫

Among the borders separating men and women, architecture occupies a primary role on the reproduction of inequalities and tensions, by assigning roles and users to different spaces. Often, the studies focus on inequalities between men and women in the field of architecture; others have chosen an historical approach to reveal the participation of women in the history of art and architecture. However, it is also important to explore the gender differences inhabiting architectural spaces. Architecture reproduces and reconfigures subjectivities through asymmetries in symbolic space. This paper introduces the discussion on women and the structures of domination expressed in contemporary architectural work and its material realm. Two examples of housing design in Mexico are reviewed and analyzed, pointing at different ways in which men and women think, use and represent their daily spaces. The analysis is structured on a double component: the lived space and the typology of the dwelling. Then, a series of questions are established about the relationships between dwelling, the way of thinking and living of women, as well as the hierarchical and patriarchal horizon with the one that designs and builds the domestic spaces of contemporary Mexico.
