Evaluation on sustainability and occupants' perceived health in Malaysian terraced houses 马来西亚排屋的可持续性和居住者感知健康的评价

Terraced houses account for 44% of the existing urban residential buildings in Malaysia. However, these houses have very constrained use of natural ventilation and lighting due to openings with small window-to-floor ratio. The deep plan design causes gloomy indoor spaces, low air change rate and poor indoor air quality. Hence, the sustainability of these terraced houses in the tropical climate needs to be further investigated. Studies showed that indoor environments have a major impact on occupants' well-being. Thereby this paper looks into indoor thermal and visual performances as the means of sustainability and their impact on occupants' perceived comfort and health in Malaysian typical terraced houses. A survey of terraced houses in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, was conducted using a questionnaire. Various terraced houses were studied to identify the critical comfort and health issues in terraced housing. The hotel industry is known for catering to travellers' demands for accommodation away from home, occasionally bringing the objective to provide comfort and services into conflict with the goal of environmental conservation. Utilising a sustainable business certification previously created by the Illinois Green Business Association (IGBA) for office buildings and restaurants, a new set of hotel-specific certification standards was developed. A trial certification of one hotel was performed to ensure that the proposed IGBA standards would effectively address the unique challenges to implementing behavioural and structural changes in the pursuit of environmental sustainability. Finally, a survey of hotel patrons' preferences was performed regarding sustainable business practices in hotels. Urban land use change study in Mongolia using spatial techniques 基于空间技术的蒙古城市土地利用变化研究

The aim of this study is to analyse the urban land use changes of the central part of Ulaanbaatar city, Mongolia using advanced spatial methods. For the study, the changes that occurred before 1990 are compared with the changes that occurred after 1990 and the socio-economic reasons for the changes are described. For the development of the primary digital database, a large scale topographic map and historical description of the land use elements are used. To update the database and extract the reliable urban land use information, very high resolution panchromatic and multispectral Quickbird images of 2012 are fused. To generate land use information from the fused images, a visual interpretation is applied. Overall, the analysis demonstrates that during the market economy the central part of the capital city urbanised very rapidly and became very dense.

Energy saving and reduction in the green house gas emissions are key to the growth of the economy of a country. The study's objective is to develop a solar-powered cascade refrigeration system. The solar assisted cascade system is the combination of electricity-powered conventional vapour compression refrigeration system (VCRS) and solar-powered vapor absorption refrigeration system (VARS), connected in series. The system performance is analysed based on the solar thermal energy potential available at Riyadh region of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). NH3 − H2O mixture is used in VARS and three different refrigerants of highest performance are selected for VCRS. Thermal Energy Storage (TES) is used to store potential energy to keep the system operating round the clock continuously. The results indicate that the coefficient of performance (COP) of the proposed system is superior compared to the conventional VCRS and has a 44.7% saving in electrical energy consumption during peak load demands. The transformation of derelict industrial sites into public spaces represents a significant enhancement to the quality of life and land use, and at the same time marks a new commitment to the transformation of once-industrial sites to new cultural and environmental uses. Redevelopment of the industrial heritage has emerged in Taiwan due to the transformation of the economic system and the longing for traditional culture and local identity. Many unused industrial buildings, such as mining sites, sugar factories, wine factories and electronics factories have been involved in different types of redevelopment plans all over Taiwan. The present study evaluates three design strategies that might be used to reclaim derelict sites in urban areas transforming them for the society and the environment. Psychological characteristics of high-rise residents 高层居民的心理特征

Recently high-rise housing has become prosperous in Korea as a type of multi-use building, having good conditions of traffic, site exiting, facilities etc. In terms of a residential environment, high-rise housing has not always provided ideal conditions. Lack of research about resident's attitudes towards high-rise housing has led to dubious presumptions. In this paper, I would like to define the characteristics and investigate the dubious presumptions made regarding residents' attitudes. The data for the definition of psychological characteristics were collected using a survey questionnaire with residents of high-rise buildings in Chicago, Tokyo and Seoul. The results from the three cities are compared. Residents in Chicago, Tokyo, and Seoul showed differing responses, including various levels of stress caused by awareness of the height or building condition.

Using the principles of climatic design, the most basic inactive energy preparation, would serve as a principled strategy to minimise energy cost and attain thermal comfort in urban spaces. In this study, Soheil residential complex on a plot of 9207 square metres of land in 19th district of Tehran has been studied as a case study to access thermal comfort in an urban space. Also, the main objective of this research is finding a framework and model that can provide all inactive energy preparations serving the goal. So, the climatic data were collected from Mehrabad weather station. Then, the Eco-tect and Climate Consultant 5.2 softwares were used firstly to draw up a general framework of space design or intended sphere in order to analyse the way that the climatic elements affected site design and determine the areas in which masses were located. Simulation analysis of improved envelope measures for modern buildings in the Mediterranean climate 地中海气候下现代建筑围护结构改进措施的仿真分析

In Europe, research has the objective to produce guidelines for building refurbishment of modern heritage. In particular, the issue of energetic improvement is analysed according to characteristics of existing heritage and local climate. In fact, it is possible to observe that, locally, building production after World War II is composed of common building types built with recurrent constructive techniques and technological solutions. Based on this, a research has been initiated with the objective to identify procedures and the sequence of actions to be applied for rehabilitation of modern heritage buildings throughout the Italian territory. This paper reports first results of the assessment of the energy requirement for cooling and heating, for different interventions on the envelope, for a very common building type in the existing modern heritage buildings in Eastern Sicily.
