This paper seeks to investigate methodology on the seamless integration for constructing a climate-conscious building envelope. The focus is targeted to provide architectural designers with an intelligent way to develop their design alternatives in the early phase of a project. Improved environmental performance can be achieved by using an optimised building envelope based on local data analysis. For tight integration, coupling of MATLAB and Rhino was employed through coding for real-time information exchanges. EnergyPlus and ECOTECT were implemented in the modelling process to simulate environmental performance. This process considers two cost functions: solar radiation and energy. Respective performance check-up runs into Multi-Objective Programming (MOP). Decision-making in MOP is optimised by using an Evolutionary Algorithm (EA), and culminated with Pareto efficiency. Comparative efficiency of structural systems for steel tall buildings 钢结构高层建筑结构体系的比较效率

Structural systems for tall buildings have evolved to produce higher lateral stiffness more efficiently. This study investigates comparative structural efficiency between today's prevalent structural systems for tall buildings, based on lateral stiffness. Tall buildings of 40, 60, 80 and 100 storeys are optimally designed with braced tubes, diagrids and outrigger structures to meet the lateral stiffness requirements. The structural efficiency of each system is studied comparatively depending on building heights and height-to-width aspect ratios. More efficient system selection and design optimisation can substantially contribute to constructing sustainable built environments by saving building materials produced from our limited resources.

Feasibility and consumer benefits of meeting the renewable portfolio standard for distributed generation in Illinois 满足伊利诺伊州分布式发电可再生能源组合标准的可行性和消费者利益

The Illinois Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) set a goal of meeting 0.25% of the state's total electricity sales from distributed generation by 2025. This study analysed the feasibility of meeting this distributed generation RPS target with residential solar systems. The net present value (NPV) of residential solar photovoltaic systems to system owners were estimated over a 25 year lifespan. The solar energy systems were allocated on a per capita basis to seven regions across Illinois to take into account region-specific electricity rates and solar resources. The model proposed here compares the annual payments and added value to the customer by compiling yearly NPV on a county, region, and state basis for the system lifespan. Reductions in CO2 and transmission losses were also estimated to more thoroughly describe the positive effects of distributed generation.

A review study on the application of the fibre optic daylighting system in Malaysian buildings 光纤采光系统在马来西亚建筑中的应用综述

As a developing country, Malaysia requires innovation to keep abreast of the rapid growth of technology to meet the highly demanding energy consumption. The application of daylighting systems especially by fibre optics is very limited, due to the absence of relevant knowledge and the lack of understanding of the system requirements and potentials, particularly the technology of illuminating enclosed spaces which are totally surrounded by internal walls (opaque). Thus, the aim of this literature review is to shed light on this new approach and to help the building technologists activate its application in building interiors. This paper presents and summarises the important technical issues that enhance the adoption of this technique for the Malaysian built environment.

Psychological determinants of intentions to upgrade the energy standards of privately-owned buildings: results from a Norwegian survey 提高私人建筑能源标准意图的心理决定因素:来自挪威的一项调查结果

This paper reports the results of an online survey on Norwegian households (N = 175) that analysed the structure of psychological determinants of the intention to substantially upgrade the energy standard of a residential building. Variables from several psychological action models were integrated into a proposed model of energy investments which was tested in a path analysis approach. The model received good support from the data. Intentions to invest were primarily determined by personal norms, but also by attitudes and self-efficacy. Self-efficacy was more important in a shorter as compared to a longer time frame. Personal norms were linked to social norms, problem awareness and an altruistic value orientation. Self-efficacy was positively linked to perceived consumer effectiveness and general innovativeness, whereas to link to hedonistic values was negative. Implications of the findings for intervention and policy design are discussed briefly.

Green building practices are gaining in popularity as a means to mitigate environmental and human health impacts of construction and development. Green buildings incorporate environmentally responsible and resource-efficient technologies to reduce environmental impacts over their life cycle. Recently various environmental assessment methods have been developed to assess the environmental performance of green building technologies. Methods developed to date are, however, insufficient for accurate quantitative estimation and evaluation of triple-bottom-line (TBL) sustainability performance objectives (i.e. economic, environmental and social) in the context of green building technologies. The application of two sustainability assessment tools on a passive office in Flanders: a user-approach 两种可持续性评估工具在法兰德斯被动式办公室的应用:用户方法

During the last decade, a large number of building sustainability assessment tools have been developed, with the aim of determining the sustainability level of buildings through a range of evaluation themes and criteria. As these tools are meant to contribute to the sustainability of building design, insights in the usability of these tools in practice is required. Therefore, we compared two frequently used sustainability assessment tools in Flanders, namely BREEAM-NL Building in Use for existing offices and Assessment of Office Buildings, on their degree of user-friendliness and applicability in a post-construction assessment. In this research paper, the outcome of this comparison is discussed. In general, the user-friendliness and applicability turned out to be quite good. However, the time and labour input needed might be a substantial threshold for new users. Further research will be done in the near future on the user-friendliness and applicability of such tools along the design process.
