The objective of this research was to boost students' reading comprehension of narrative text by modifying DRTA (Directed Reading Thinking Activity) strategy at X MIPA 3 students of SMA Negeri 1 Bintan Timur. The research design was classroom action research. This study held at two cycles with four meetings in each cycle. The subjects of this research were X MIPA 3 students which made up 36 students. The research instruments applied to gather the data were observation checklist and reading comprehension test. The result showed that students' percentage whose got score ≥ 75 in cycle 1 and cycle 2 were higher than preliminary study. There were 63,88% students in cycle 1 and 88,88% students in cycle 2. It showed that the students' percentage whose got score ≥ 75 improved and meet the criterion of success was 70%. The observation checklist's results also showed that modified DRTA (Directed Reading Thinking Activity) strategy was successful in enhanciing students' classroom participation. The students' participation had been reached 83% in cycle 2. From the result, ≥ 40% students participated in the teaching and learning activities when the strategy was implemented. It could be concluded that the modified DRTA (Directed Reading Thinking Activity) strategy could improve students' reading comprehension and students' participation at X MIPA 3 students of SMA Negeri 1 Bintan Timur.

This study intended to see whether there is an effect of using the zoom application on student’s speaking skills or not. This study was conducted at SMP Negeri 11 Tanjungpinang in the academic year of 2021/2022. The authors selected class VIII.4 which the number of students was 31 as the object of this study. The authors used quantitative methodology and the design was a pre-experimental design in which the authors used one-group pre-test/post-test with treatment. In this study, the authors used an oral test as the instrument of this study. The alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. It could be seen from data calculated using paired sample t-test formula. Based on the data calculated, it could be seen that the significance was 0.133. It was normal because 0.133 > 0.005. While the Sig. 2 tailed was 0.000. It means that there is a significant effect of using zoom application on student’s speaking skills at 8th grade of SMP Negeri 11 Tanjungpinang because the sig.2 tailed 0.000< 0.005. Based on the findings, the authors suggest the teacher use zoom application for teaching speaking, because this application gave a significant effect on student’s speaking skills.

The purpose of this research was to find whether or not there is a relationship between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension. The researcher focused on the relationship between students' vocabulary mastery and their reading comprehension in this study. The researcher employed a quantitative method in their investigation. The sample in this study was 30 students at seventh grade in SMPN 4 Senayang. 20 items for vocabulary mastery and 10 items for reading comprehension in a multiple-choice test were used to collect data for this study. The Pearson's Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was employed to analyze the data. The correlation coefficient variable of mastery of vocabulary and reading comprehension was 0.473 based on the data obtained by the authors. The correlation coefficient was 0.473, which is placed between 0.400.0.600 was seen in the table. The correlation is moderate correlation. As a result, Ho is rejected, while Ha is accepted. The authors found a relationship between students' vocabulary mastery and their reading comprehension of this study.

The purpose of this research is to find out whether or not the roundtable technique is effective for writing descriptive text in eighth grade at SMP Negeri 3 Tanjungpinang. The reserach used quantitative method with method using quasi-experimental design. The study sample was divided into two groups: experimental and control. In this study, the authors was applied online learning considering the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus. The pre-test was given at the beginning of the study in each class, and then followed by given the treatment of the roundtable technique in composing descriptive text in the experimental class and small group discussion in the control class. After that, a post-test was given at the end of the study. Furthermore, the data was analyzed by using SPSS 21. The findings of the independent t-test revealed that the significant value generated Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.000 smaller than 0.05. As a result, it supports the hypothesis that using roundtable technique is effective toward writing descriptive text at the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 3 Tanjungpinang. Abstract The case study or case-based technique has been widely employed in a variety of areas due to the tremendous benefits it provides for teaching and learning. The Indonesian government also encourages the use of the case method as one of the methods emphasized in the Key Performance Indicators of Higher Education (IKU) guidelines. This article presents a literature review of the case study by exploring the benefits and the challenges of implementing this method in the classroom. Besides, an alternative scenario of the case study implementation in English for Medical Purposes is also presented. It is hoped that this article will give insight into the implementation of the case method in a specific setting to help students learn English in a meaningful way.
