Results of a longitudinal research carried out within the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest) to identify the dynamics of student preferences regarding the teaching-learning-assessment process are presented in this paper. The research was carried out throughout one full generation (four academic years) of students. The results showed that the academic maturity of the students (defined as the transition to a higher academic year) majorly impacts only the students' preferences regarding some aspects like the way of conducting the laboratory and project applications, the subject’s final evaluation procedure, the fining of academic deception and the mandatory evaluation of professors' activity by students. The studied generation (2016-2019) is the last one before the COVID-19 pandemic, before the paradigm shifts through the sudden transition to fully online activities highlighting the relevance of this research.

Measurement systems are based on analog to digital converters because they offer easy data processing, storage and transmission. Since the majority of the measuring instruments includes ADCs, it is important for students studying Electric and electronic measurements to learn about the parameters of an ADC. INL (Integral nonlinearity) and DNL (Differential nonlinearity) are two of the most important parameters that characterize an ADC, but the process is also time consuming. The present paper presents an automated test system for didactic laboratory. The DUT is a NI DAQ card, the reference instrument is a high accuracy voltage source and the associated software is developed in LabVIEW. The tested parameters are calculated automatically during the process and are displayed on graphs as well as stored in a data file. As conclusions the results are analyzed for comparing the digital code data and the calibrated voltage data.

Electricity is the most important product used in industry, commerce, education, and residential sector, whose quality must be maintained at the levels required by the EMC standards. Total harmonic distortion (THD) is an important indicator of power quality. The importance of issues of electrical power quality has recently increased due to the intensive use of electrical equipment. The article analyses an analogue THD-meter with notch filter, relatively simple and inexpensive, which can be used to measure the THD of voltage and current, made with linear integrated circuits and RC components. The analogue THD-meter is based on a notch filter that eliminates the frequency of 50 Hz, and signals with a frequency different from 50 Hz will be processed. The output of the analogue THD-meter is a voltage (in mV) proportional to the THD value. Simulations and experiments with a THD meter for voltage and current are presented and the errors are smaller when measuring THD for voltage (up to 4%) compared to measuring THD for current (up to 7%).

The disruptive voltages used to test the self-restoring insulations are influenced by the actual atmospheric conditions in which they are performed. The main factors of influence are atmospheric pressure and humidity, the ambient temperature having an indirect role on the first parameters. As a result, different standards have been elaborated in order to specify the correction factors, based on the data collected during experiments. A procedures' unification to satisfy the multitude of real cases (electric field structures, voltage levels and distances between electrodes) is in itself a difficult approach. The work summarizes the currently used procedures for determining the atmospheric correction factors and presents their sensitivity with the atmospheric parameters registered for over 25 years in a laboratory located at low altitude, during of carrying out industrial tests of some insulator strings with rated voltages between 110 kV and 400 kV.

In this paper, the authors present a systematized methodology of modelling and analysis of the operating regimes of one of the two main components of pumping units with horizontal shaft - synchronous motor-centrifugal pump assembly - that equips high-power energy pumping stations in hydropower facilities with pumped storage. In this sense, for the centrifugal pumps seen as working machines in electric drive systems, the results obtained following a systematic methodology of modelling and analysis of operating regimes are presented. For solving, algorithms and calculation programs developed in the Mathcad programming environment were designed. For example, a representative case study of one of the three identical double-flow pumps from a high-power energy pumping station from a Hydropower Facility existing in our country (Romania), driven by a horizontal synchronous motor of 6 kV with electromagnetic excitation, was chosen.

This paper is focused on the influence of the appearance of the disturbance due to locomotive wheels slipping on a traction system with rotor flux-oriented control and hysteresis current controllers. This disturbance is one of the specific phenomena of railway traction associated with a sudden variation of the load torque that can lead to unfavorable effects on the traction system. The rotor flux-oriented control of the induction motor has proven its superior performance and applicability in electric traction. When the current control of the voltage source inverter is adopted, the control scheme is simpler and the performances in operation are outstanding. This structure of the control system is first presented synthetically in the paper. The specific Matlab-Simulink model conceived for the whole traction system is used to evaluate the performance of the control system in the presence of the disturbance given by the locomotive wheels slipping. The results show that the response of the system is very good, with superior performance both when wheels slipping occurs during acceleration and in steady-state operation.

Li-Ion batteries are used, nowadays, in many vehicle applications, including special vehicles with particular needs which can require several types of battery cell connections and configurations. Li-Ion battery packs are constructed from a large number of smaller cells connected in series and parallel respectively depending on the desired voltage and capacity. The paper presents a system designated to charge and discharge three battery packs connected in parallel and used on the aquatic reed electric harvester, where the main requirement was a high ratio between capacity and voltage for the total battery pack. The conclusions of this article can contribute to the improvement of electric vehicle power system design by configuring existing battery packs on the market.

The purpose of this paper is to present a practical solution for improving the performance of electric cars by placing photovoltaic panels on their roofs. The study is structured in two parts, namely the electrical energy obtained with the photovoltaic panel placed on the roof of a moving car on an imposed route, and the electrical energy obtained from a photovoltaic panel placed on the roof of the parked car. The study is carried out in Constanta, Romania. The obtained data show the importance of using photovoltaic panels placed on electric cars, in order to obtain clean, free and useful energy for extending the autonomy of the electric car.

In this paper, an RF harvester along with a power conditioning unit is presented. The proposed solution is tuned to work at 2.42 GHz. RF harvested front-end is simulated, and its supporting back-end power conditioning unit is discussed in detail. The variation in the harvester's Gain, Directivity and Efficiency at different frequencies is analyzed. Different power conditioning units are proposed, and the best one for the proposed RF harvester is discussed in detail. The proposed low-cost solution is highly suitable for far-field RF power harvesting, especially for small portable gadgets.
