Abstract Academic libraries worldwide provide knowledge management (KM) services to support university research activities, while some librarians are slowly implementing knowledge management practices. The paper examined librarians’ perception of knowledge management in Nigerian university libraries and discovered that they perceived it positively. It also identified KM practices in Nigerian university libraries, such as brainstorming, knowledge sharing and mentoring. However, these practices were not recognized as KM practices and were not officially documented as such. Furthermore, the paper also revealed that the effects of KM on the professional development of academic librarians were positive. Therefore, the researchers proffer some recommendations to enhance KM practices in Nigerian university libraries.

Abstract User services are often seen as the public-facing work of a library. Yet, all aspects of a library are to provide service to users, including the back-of-the-house work of technical services or collections departments. When done with a user focus this behind-the-scenes work, while often imperceptible, should be considered a public service. Doing so allows back-of-the-house library staff to view their work more holistically and enables deeper collaboration across teams. By creating a service model where all aspects of the library serve the user, libraries can provide a strong user experience.

Abstract During the pandemic, a consortium of libraries in the Milan area (Italy) interviewed the community and applied sentiment analysis to quickly understand the community’s feelings toward online services. The model compares both sentiment analysis and topic detection using algorithms that identify sentiments and topics. The results highlight the preference for paper books but the interest in learning more about digital services.

Abstract The context of Europe and the ASEAN countries highlights a parallel growth of the concept of information literacy and the diversity of policies to solve information literacy issues. The comparative study aims to understand the influence of policies for the teaching of information literacy in universities in Italy and Thailand and was based on a theoretical framework built by international literature. The data was collected from the analysis of literature and web documentation in Italy and Thailand. The comparative analysis shows that the concept of information literacy has had a similar growth but the influence of policies for teaching information literacy in higher education is different in Italy and Thailand and still in continuous development. The results show that one element of success is the integration of information literacy into the higher education curriculum.

Abstract At the organizational level, libraries focus on the development of physical collections of books and other materials, on the development of library materials by persons who are profiled in the selection, enrichment, organization, classification, cataloging and circulation of these materials, for stakeholders, who are primarily university students. The information technology programs used by libraries go beyond the physical collection of books, documents, and scientific journals, so we have a transformation of the library into the virtual world of the Internet. The advancement of libraries in the technological aspect has influenced us to have a change in the communication process between the library and the student. So, the purpose of this paper is to present the changes that have been made to the library in its structure, the programs they offer, the impact they have on the communication process between stakeholders, with a specific focus on changes that have been implemented at the AAB College Library in Prishtina, Kosovo.

Abstract Libraries are activated by our community members and our staff. Libraries use a variety of words to describe the people that frequent them. The words are often used habitually, rather than after a critical review of their origin and impacts. If libraries are not neutral, how might this translate into the language that we use, the way we make decisions, and how we engage with our community members? This column will explore the growth of public services, the language we use to refer to the people we serve, and how to empower our community members as well as partners in ways that advance equity, accessibility, and inclusion. This column discusses several tools that can be used in decision making to empower community members.

Abstract Leadership is vital to the accomplishment of librarianship in the modern era. This paper investigated academic library leadership in Nigeria and ICT adoption. A descriptive research design was used for the study. The Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) was used for data collection. The population of the study was 402 librarians in academic libraries in South-west, Nigeria. It was found that library leadership plays a significant role in ICT adoption in academic libraries in Nigeria. The study found that though both transformational and transactional leadership styles are good in an academic library setting, the respondents rated their leaders as more transformational than transactional. The extent of the adoption of ICT in performing library operations is high. The libraries benefited enormously from the adoption of ICT, even though the libraries face a lot of challenges in the adoption of ICT. It was recommended that Library leaders should imbibe transformational leadership practices in the management of their libraries as it offers effective leadership and is acceptable to the subordinates. The academic libraries should also make full-scale adoption of ICT in performing their operations due to the numerous improvements ICT brings to job performance and service delivery

Abstract The aim of this study is to investigate university students’ understanding of referencing conventions and terminological denotations associated with the ethical use of information. A questionnaire survey was conducted to collect data from the final year undergraduate and master’s students at a public university in Bangladesh. In addition to demographic and academic information, students were asked to respond to 13 task-based statements to indicate whether referencing are required for them. They were also asked to write down the definitions for 10 terms related to ethical practices of information use. For referencing and definitional tasks, each correct answer or definition was given a score of 1, while each incorrect answer was given a score of 0. The item difficulty index was used for analyzing the correctness score for each referencing and definitional answer. Finally, a negative binomial regression model was used on the total referencing and definitional scores to predict the students’ correctness scores. A total of 189 students participated in the survey. It was found that the majority of students never attended library orientations, information literacy instructions and academic writing workshops. The findings showed that students’ correctness score for the referencing tasks was relatively high, but their correctness score was poor for the definitional answers. It appeared that students from the engineering and technology faculty and those who were enrolled in the master’s programs had significantly higher correctness score. The most common form of unethical practices by students included allowing assignments to be copied by their peers or vice versa. While academic pressure was regarded as one of the main reasons for unethical practices, the majority of students felt guilty for such wrongdoings and committed to be more careful in the future.

Exploring Strategies for Marketing Library Products and Services in University Libraries in Ghana 加纳大学图书馆产品与服务营销策略探讨
Q2 Social Sciences Pub Date : 2022-07-18 DOI: 10.1080/10572317.2022.2100217

Abstract This paper sought to understand the strategies for marketing library offerings in selected academic libraries in Ghana. Through a qualitative research approach, this study used a purposive sampling technique to conduct face-to-face interviews among 15 librarians (Departmental Heads) from four academic libraries in Ghana. The collected data were transcribed verbatim and analyzed thematically with the help of QSR NVivo qualitative analysis software. It came to light that none of the libraries concerned had designated departments solely responsible for marketing library services, nor did they have dedicated budgets to drive their marketing plans. Consistently, all the libraries had adopted some form of informal marketing strategies.

Through a qualitative research approach, this study used a purposive sampling technique to conduct face-to-face interviews among 15 librarians (Departmental Heads) from four academic libraries in Ghana. The collected data were transcribed verbatim and analyzed thematically with the help of QSR NVivo qualitative analysis software. It came to light that none of the libraries concerned had designated departments solely responsible for marketing library services, nor did they have dedicated budgets to drive their marketing plans. Consistently, all the libraries had adopted some form of informal marketing strategies. The study recommends establishing and subsequent resourcing of marketing units in libraries to help manage relationships and further create and deliver values for patrons. The findings of this paper would be relevant, especially for librarians, as they strive to manage their relationships with their users to deliver value to them.","PeriodicalId":39917,"journal":{"name":"International Information and Library Review","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83188202","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
