The paper investigates the system of predicative possession in Bulgarian from a Slavic and Balkan perspective. The constructions are described in terms of their semantic and syntactic properties and several generalizations are made about the distribution of possessive features such as alienable vs inalienable and permanent vs temporary. In the second part of paper, I bring forward some observations about the diachrony of the Bulgarian predicative possessive constructions and their potential (Slavic or Balkan) source.

This paper analysesthe use of the Russian functional marker ved’based on the Russian-Italian parallel corpus within the Russian National Corpus. Data show that in over 50% of examplesved’is used to enhance the illocutionary strength of a sentence, helping the inferential processof a relation of motive with the preceding phrase. Ved’ also occurs in bothinterrogative sentences in order to verify knowledge, with different pragmatic effects depending on the context, and complexsentences, where itacquires a factual meaning and functions as a text cohesion device. Theextensiverange of possibleItalian translations ofved' is a sign of its languagespecificity.

The present study explores Italian-speaking learners’ knowledge of support (light) verb constructions. It involves an investigation of the deviations found in a learner corpus, the quantitative comparison of learners’ and native Russian speakers’ collocation production and an elicitation test. This study reveals deficiencies of learners’ collocational knowledge resulting in misuse, underuse or overuse of support verb constructions. To conceal these deficiencies, two strategies are used by learners: L1 transfer and avoidance.

The paper deals with the verb běžati (‘to run away’) and its aspectual behaviours in the Early East Slavic language. The use of the aorist and past participle confirms that in the Early East Slavic documents of the 11th‒14th centuries (taken from the Old Russian subcorpus of the RNC) the verb was used in perfective contexts, but some forms of present participle, simple present and imperfect attested in the documents are discussed in order to show the aspectual indefiniteness of this verb.
