The paper addresses the problems of presenting two classic novels, by D. Defoe and H. B. Stowe, during the time of totalitarian rule. Unspecified abbreviations and interferences in the text significantly distort the originals and affect the author's messages. The attention is paid to the influence of the paratexts used to forged the reception to the direction pointed by the Party, including illumination of the characters from different ideological rays. This stage in the critical perception of the works turns out to be especially deconstructive for the Biblical references, themes, images and motifs.

The book by Magdalena Kostova - Panayotova "On the seams of literature (between East and West - borders and identities)" commented the authors, processes and phenomena in the contemporary literature. The concept of "border" is key. Through it, literary relations, themes and plots are meaningful locally - on the Balkans and glob-ally: East - West. The book offers a systematic view of the contemporary literary process, as well as specific analyzes of authors from the Balkans and the East. Contemporary literature - as authors, plots, topics, reception, market is considered in the paradigm of comparative literary studies.

The text presents results of research on how journalists tell about censorship and pres-sure on their work in the media. A number of studies point to major problems such as corporate pressure on journalists in private media; tabooization of certain topics by public and state-owned media, but also distortion of the information picture due to commercial interests. One very specific biographical moment, i.e. the quitting, dismis-sal or discharge of journalists from the media, has been chosen as a focus of the study of journalistic perceptions of limitations on the professional field. The study answers the questions: When do journalists think they were free in the media? How do they describe their perceptions of freedom of expression? How do they construct their personal narratives in media interviews in the period after quitting or being banished from the media?

Socialist realism is a style of idealized realistic art of the XX century. Having had a widely-spread influence in the countries where communism was a predominant system of government such as Kosovo, it took upon the role of a teacher who sets out the norms on how writers should go on and about their writing, norms which were known to be rigid and had previously obtained the approval of the communist party. Subsequently, socialist realism in Kosovo was of service to the communist ideology. It encompasses a didactic mission which paves the way for the Albanian community onto the norms of the new communist way of living by using literature as a propaganda tool to shape the readers’ convictions towards having a positive outlook of communism as a whole. On the other hand, this way of doing literature targets and lashes out at anything and everything that does not reflect the communist ideology, especially the Albanian customs and traditions’ system which had the good fortune of being on opposite sides of the latter. The effects of such a war on the Albanian traditions which last-ed for half a century, are still very much present in the Albanian way of living even today, because when communism was eradicated for good, as a governing ideological system, it did not take all of its misfortunes with it. The main purpose of this paper is to complete the previous studies’ findings on socialist realism in Kosovo with new findings that have solely to do with the relationship between socialist realism and the Albanian customs and traditions.

This article explores the branches of the International Federation of University Women (IFUW) in the interwar period and up to the early 1950s as feminist organisations on the Balkans gathered women intellectuals with various fields of expertise and devoted its initial efforts to equal rights of education and professional career. By means of historical and social network analysis the associations of university women in Bulgaria, Romania, Yugoslavia, Greece and Turkey and their as attempt to create a scientific network of women academics on the peninsula are studied. The main question is to discuss whether or not the Balkan associations of university women were organizations which supported women’s movement against the segregation in the University and the museums, which promoted their scientific work in domestic institutions, which assisted them before public prejudices, which gave them opportunities to make contacts with colleagues abroad, and which provide them with scholarships. The analysis of the Balkan associations is made with a comparison with similar women’s scientific networks in the Western Europe.

In the last two centuries, Romanian women had to struggle in order to carve a place for themselves not only in sciences, but also in the society. Eventually, their struggle paid off. Today, women can enjoy a prominent career in academia as well as in any other field of their choice. This article provides a concise summary of their struggles and their achievements as well as a short catalogue of the leading feminine figures. It aims at pointing out the main roads to emancipation, modernization and empower-ment of women in Romania from the XIXth century onwards.

This paper aims to map the research conducted on women and gender studies at universities in Turkey. The studies, projects, articles, books, seminars, conferences, training programs produced in this field take place in a wide variety of fields. The main material of this study is postgraduate theses written on women and gender issues. Thus, postgraduate theses written in the discipline of women and gender studies are evaluated within the framework of historical and political contexts. The institutionalization of academic feminism in Turkey is a radical intervention in the academic knowledge production process. Despite all the difficulties and obstacles, this process is a success story for Turkey. What does the knowledge of this mapping tell us? Where are these studies going? Is the radical intervention of feminism in Turkey still considered radical today? In order to think about the answers to these questions, it was tried to map the theses written on women and gender studies by taking data. In this study, the importance of the information obtained and the historical and political importance of emphasizing this information are analyzed by mapping the 'theses', which is an important part of the knowledge produced in women and gender studies in Turkey.
