Optical Fiber Immunosensor Based on Long Period Gratings Built by Periodic Laser Ablation 基于周期激光烧蚀长周期光栅的光纤免疫传感器

An optical fiber immunosensor based on long period gratings (LPGs) made by periodic laser ablation is presented in this work. In order to be able to modify the effective index of the fundamental and the cladding modes, a cladding-etched SMF (CE-SMF) was coated with tin dioxide and after that the grating was created by periodic ablation of the overlay. Type G immunoglobulins (IgGs) were attached to (3-glycidyloxypropyl) trimethoxysilane (GPTMS) overlay. Samples with anti-IgGs concentrations ranging from 1 mg/L to 100 mg/L have been studied and a maximum sensitivity of 1.2 nm/(mg/L) was obtained. There is still room for the improvement of this optical platform.

Hierarchical Classification on Multimodal Sensing for Human Activity Recogintion and Fall Detection 基于多模态感知的分层分类人体活动识别与跌倒检测

This paper presents initial results on the usage of hierarchical classification for human activities discrimination and fall detection in the context of assisted living. Multimodal sensing is proposed by combining data from a wearable device and a radar system. The effect of different approaches in selecting the activities in each sub-group of the hierarchy are explored and reported as preliminary results in this work, while a more detailed investigation is undergoing. 1.2-2.2% improvement in accuracy with SVM and DL classifiers compared with the conventional case of activity classification is reported; subsequent improvement (1.6%) occurs when using SVM-SFS in the second stage of hierarchical classification.

Characteristics of Hydrogen Sensors Based on Anocrystalline Thin Films of Tin Dioxide with Various Complex Modifiers 基于不同复合改性剂的二氧化锡非晶薄膜的氢传感器特性

Results of investigation of the effect of the complex modifiers of silver and yttrium introduced into bulk of tir dioxide thin films with disperse layers of Pt/Pd on the surface or the properties of hydrogen sensors are presented in this work The thin films of tin dioxide were obtained by magnetror sputtering of tin - antimony alloy target at the direct current The influence of humidity on the electrical and gas-sensitive characteristics of the hydrogen sensors based on these films wa: investigated. The long-test stability of the investigated samples was researched. It is shown that additives silver and yttrium in the presence of Pt/Pd on the surface provide the maximum values of the response to hydrogen at 670 K. In the cases of the depositec catalytic silver the response to hydrogen is considerably lower. II according with the results of the experiments, the characteristics of the films with additions of silver+yttrium in the bulk have weaker dependence on humidity changes. A common feature of samples with modifiers of silver and yttrium is the high stability of their properties under the periodical influence of hydrogen in long-term tests. Analysis of results shown that the complei modifiers of silver+yttrium interact with lattice atoms of tin and oxygen contribute to the emergence of deep centers in the semiconductor, and these additives prevent the process o reduction of tin dioxide at hydrogen adsorption and ensure the stability of the parameters of the sensors in operation.

Selective Anisotropic Dry Etching of Piezoelectric Silk Microstructures Using Oxygen Plasma Ashing 氧等离子体灰化法选择性各向异性干蚀刻压电丝微结构

Micro patterning of FDA approved Silk fibroin polymer derived from Bombyx mori cocoons has wide range of applications in realizing Silk based MEMS and implantable biomedical micro devices. In the present study, a very simple and straightforward micro-pattering approach based on well known dry etching has been presented. The dry etching of silk microstructures was achieved using low pressure oxygen plasma ashing technique. Titanium based stencil mask patterned using photolithography, was used to transfer the desired microstructures onto the silk film. The optimum etching recipe was determined by optimizing the dry etching parameters like RF power delivered onto the carrier, duration of plasma and the oxygen flow rate. The etch rate and the etch uniformity were measured using standard metrological techniques. Selective complete removal of silk with an etch rate of 0.20 urn/min has been reported. Using the optimized dry etching recipe, a complex pattern with minimum feature size of 1.6 µm was achieved.

Intelligent Filter for Accurate Subsurface Heading Estimation Using Multiple Integrated MEMS Sensors 基于多个集成MEMS传感器的地下航向精确估计智能滤波

In this paper, a sensing system for subsurface application which includes a hybrid fusion methodology and two IMUs was developed. The system improves measurement reliability through the fusion of the signals from each of the sensors. This hybrid fusion method includes two quaternion Kalman filters (QKF), and an intelligent filter whose design is based on the Adaptive Neural Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) method. The simulation and test results show the proposed system has improved performance as compared with other systems.

A Low-Cost Amperometric Glucose Sensor Based on PCB Technology 基于PCB技术的低成本葡萄糖传感器

The most successful electrochemical sensor is the glucose sensor, which has transformed the management of diabetes. Microfabrication, inkjet and screen printing are used for the realization of electrochemical sensors. However, these can be costly, time-consuming, non-standardized processes, which may be hard to adapt for low-cost mass fabrication. In this paper, we extend our previous work on PCB-based electrochemical sensing, to the realization of amperometric glucose sensors. In vitro results are presented from a multielectrode platform with on-board counter and reference electrodes, in an effort to develop low-cost, PCB-based multiparametric, multi-modal sensor arrays. A sensitivity of 3.13 µAcm−2 mM−1 was achieved.

The design, fabrication and test of a thin film Si chip-scale fluorescence sensor designed for integration with microfluidic systems isG reported. The photodetector has low dark current (pA) and responsivity of 0.3 A/W at 532 nm. Droplets of 10 microliter with varying fluorophore concentrations were tested and the data is linear with a model fit with 95% confidence and signal to noise ratios greater than 20 dB.

Differentiating Color Responses in Retina Through Multielectrode Array Recordings 通过多电极阵列记录区分视网膜的颜色反应

The retina mediates vision while encoding various features of a visual such as brightness, color, motion, direction, etc. An epiretinal prosthesis, directed towards restoring vision in the blind, intend to incorporate these parameters in the input stimulus. The output neurons of retina, retinal ganglion cells (RGC), convey the perceptible information to the brain. The wavelength information of primary colors received by the cones are expected to have characteristic features in RGC responses before being perceived by the brain. Thus responses from the RGCs are recorded with multielectrode array (MEA) and analyzed to distinguish between light stimulus of different wavelengths. Two major types of neurons with opposite polarity were identified for each color and their spiking nature was studied. A spontaneous response was also detected for all the colors. Red, blue and green were uncorrelated with white light stimulus which clearly indicates wavelength information can be decoded from multineuronal recordings from RGCs. These information can be encoded in electric stimulus for prosthetic vision development.

Mahadevappa","doi":"10.1109/ICSENS.2018.8589756","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ICSENS.2018.8589756","url":null,"abstract":"The retina mediates vision while encoding various features of a visual such as brightness, color, motion, direction, etc. An epiretinal prosthesis, directed towards restoring vision in the blind, intend to incorporate these parameters in the input stimulus. The output neurons of retina, retinal ganglion cells (RGC), convey the perceptible information to the brain. The wavelength information of primary colors received by the cones are expected to have characteristic features in RGC responses before being perceived by the brain. Thus responses from the RGCs are recorded with multielectrode array (MEA) and analyzed to distinguish between light stimulus of different wavelengths. Two major types of neurons with opposite polarity were identified for each color and their spiking nature was studied. A spontaneous response was also detected for all the colors. Red, blue and green were uncorrelated with white light stimulus which clearly indicates wavelength information can be decoded from multineuronal recordings from RGCs. Classification of Hand Movements by Surface Myoelectric Signal Using Artificial-Spiking Neural Network Model 基于人工脉冲神经网络模型的表面肌电信号手部运动分类

Real-time classification of the myoelectric signal has applications in the field of neuro-rehabilitation systems such as prosthesis. The classifier which is a human-computer-interaction (HCI) controller should be ideally fast and computationally less intensive. In this work, we have done a simulation-based study to estimate the performance of a deep artificial/spiking neural network (ANN) model for classification. The model parameters are tuned for a subject to get a 93.33 % and 89.39 % classification accuracy using the ANN and SNN classifiers respectively. A comparison between the two classifiers is studied in terms of computational complexity, external noise effect and trained parameters approximation.

A Low-G MEMS Acceleration Switch Based on Direct Contact Method 基于直接接触法的低g MEMS加速度开关

A MEMS low-g inertial switch is typically used for linearly increased/decreased acceleration signal sensing. In this paper, we introduce a novel design concept of MEMS inertial switch based on direct contact sensing method to eliminate the bouncing effect of the output signal. The switch was designed with a threshold value of 12 g and composed by a proof mass, suspended by six Z-shaped flexure beams. The fabrication was carried out on a SOI wafer with standard silicon micromachining. Two glass wafers were used to encapsulate the switch and establish a direct connection between movable electrode and the detection circuits. According to the centrifugal experiment results, the measured threshold value is around 11.8 g, which is in good agreement with the designed value. The comparison of contact behavior between direct and indirect contact switches was also carried out. The results showed that, the direct contact switch can eliminate the output signal bouncing effect especially when the applied acceleration signal was approximate to the threshold value of the switch.
