Monitoring vegetation dynamics is a very important task for biodiversity conservation, especially in the Global Change context where many natural habitats are threatened with extinction or reduced to small areas. Remote sensing (aerial or spatial) has played a key role in this monitoring for years. With space imagery, the main limitation is actually due to the metric resolution which is not well adapted for estimating the processes of changes occurring in areas where the number species, visible only in few places, is shrinking, like in the heathland habitat in Fontainebleau Forest case. For aerial imagery, the main problem is the cost of a specific mission or the availability of the plane or the pilot. We propose in this article another solution: the use of a home-made Unmanned Vertical Take Off and Landing Aerial System, which is a good compromise between the spatial and aerial solutions, and test the validity and the robustness of the tools developed for the management of natural habitat on a specific area of the Fontainebleau Forest.

A simplified image fusion technique with sensor spectral response 基于传感器光谱响应的简化图像融合技术

Introducing the sensor spectral response into the wavelet-based image fusion methods may produce images closer to which obtained by the ideal sensor. But the wavelet-based image fusion methods are complex because of the wavelet decomposition. This paper presents a simplified image fusion method using sensor spectral response which derives from a wavelet-based one, but need not to do the wavelet decomposition at the last calculation. The experimental results demonstrate that it provides good performance both in processing speed and image fusion quality.

Decomposition methods for the estimation of bare soil surface parameters using fully polarimetric SAR data 1 利用全极化SAR数据估算裸露土壤表面参数的分解方法

This study wants to demonstrate that two different polarimetric target decomposition methods can improve SAR data accuracy for estimating the parameters of bare soil surface. To achieve this goal, two experiments are conducted: (1) both Freeman and Cloude decomposition methods are performed on JPL/AIRSAR L-band fully polarimetric data; and (2) Advanced Integral Equation Model (AIEM) is used to simulate backscatting coefficients. The root mean square errors (RMSEs) of σ0hh, σ0vv between original data and AIEM simulated data are 1.96 and 1.25 dB. However, if Cloude method is used to decompose original data, the RMSEs will be reduced to 1.45 and 1.14dB, respectively; for Freeman method, the RMSEs are 1.64 and 1.35 dB. Therefore, polarimetric target decomposition compensation, especially Cloude method, can help to improve the accuracy of SAR data for estimating the parameters of bare soil surface.

Change detection in a multitemporal series of radar images 多时相雷达图像序列的变化检测

In the literature, several works are led around the radar images especially the detection of the cartographic objects, the 3D reconstruction and the change detection. Concerning this last application, several techniques compete to ensure the best possible result. In this paper, we aim first at developing an automatic detection procedure to compare between similarity measures. Then we propose a change detection technique based on the fusion of two similarity measures. The first one is the Contrast (C) measure [1] and the second one is the Rayleigh Distribution Ratio (RDR) measure [2]. The proposed method has been validated on simulated data and then applied on three radar images.

3D geological modelling using laser and hyperspectral data 利用激光和高光谱数据进行三维地质建模

This paper presents a ground based system for mapping the geology and the geometry of the environment remotely. The main objective of this work is to develop a framework for a mobile robotic platform that can build 3D geological maps. We investigate classification and registration algorithms that can work without any manual intervention. The system capabilities are demonstrated with data acquired from a working mine environment. Geological maps are built by applying classification techniques to hyperspectral images of the rocks' surface. The result from the classification is then fused with laser images to form the 3D geological models of the environment.

The objective of this paper is to make a review of the current status of the PolSARpro v4.0 Software (Polarimetric SAR Data Processing and Educational Toolbox), developed under contract to ESA. The objective of this current project is to provide Educational Software that offers a tool for self-education in the field of Polarimetric SAR data analysis at University level and a comprehensive suite of functions for the scientific exploitation of fully and partially polarimetric multi-data sets and the development of applications for such data. The PolSARpro v4.0 Software establishes a foundation for the exploitation of Polarimetric techniques for scientific developments and stimulates research and applications developments using PolSAR and PolInSAR data.

Triple collocation — A new tool to determine the error structure of global soil moisture products 三重配置——确定全球土壤湿度产品误差结构的新工具

Recently Triple Collocation (TC) was adopted for soil moisture application. Results from a first application indicated that the method could be useful to estimate global error patterns. Here we test the method with new data sets. The results show that the method is robust and that it allows to derive objective error estimates.

Visual information mining and ranking using graded relevance assessments in satellite image databases 基于分级相关性评价的卫星图像数据库视觉信息挖掘与排序

With recent technological advances, the geospatial industry produces digital image data at an astonishing rate. Such large amounts of data need to be analyzed for visual content in a timely fashion. For in-depth analysis of the geospatial there is a need to find efficient methods to process the visual information into actionable knowledge. One of the most promising methods is to evaluate the relevance of geospatial images to domain-specific visual semantics. Most of existing methods for annotating semantic meaning to geospatial images are trained using binary feedback from users. Such approaches may lead to suboptimal models especially due to the fact that semantic relevance of images is rarely a binary problem. In this paper, we report an algorithm to link low-level image features with high-level visual semantics using graded relevance feedback from image analysts. This linkage is done using flexible possibility functions that mathematically model the existence of visual semantics in new images added to the database. Our experimental results show that our technique improves the knowledge discovery process as evidenced by increased mean average precision of semantic queries.

Research on the lakes change in Ejin alluvial fan from long time-series landsat images 额济纳冲积扇湖泊变化的长时间序列卫星影像研究

Inland lakes in the arid and semi-arid areas are sensitive to the climate change and human activities, The long time-series remote sensing data, with a capability to provide valuable information of the distribution and changes of inland water bodies, have become an effective tool for lake study. In this paper, the lakes in Ejin alluvial fan, located in a typical arid region in the west of Inner Mongolia, China, are chosen as study lakes. Twenty years period TM data are used to obtain the long time-series and continental information of the lake change from 1987 to 2008. Climate data and hydrological data are also collected for correlational study. The results show that 1) in latest 20 years, the total area of the studied lakes in Ejin alluvial fan reduced firstly then increased after 2000. 2) The area changes of the four lakes are different. 3) Both the environmental change and the man-kind factors are the drivers of the lake change in Ejin alluvial fan. The latter might exert a main influence.
干旱半干旱区内陆湖对气候变化和人类活动非常敏感,长时间序列遥感数据能够提供内陆水体分布和变化的宝贵信息,已成为湖泊研究的有效工具。本文以内蒙古西部典型干旱区额济纳冲积扇内湖泊为研究对象。利用20年TM数据,获得了1987 - 2008年湖泊变化的长时间序列和大陆信息。还收集了气候资料和水文资料进行相关性研究。结果表明:①近20年来额济纳冲积扇研究湖泊总面积在2000年后呈现先减少后增加的趋势;2) 4个湖泊的面积变化不同。③额济纳冲积扇湖泊变化的驱动因素既有环境因素,也有人为因素。后者可能会产生主要影响。

Persistent WCS and CSW services of GOES data for GEOSS 为GEOSS提供GOES数据的持续WCS和CSW服务

The Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) is a new international effort to provide an integrated system on top of the distributed, diverse legacy systems to create an open, public infrastructure for worldwide Earth observation research and applications. One key approach for enabling GEOSS is that legacy systems must support GEOSS-endorsed public standards. This paper presents a case study consisting of providing a persistent data customization service through the OGC Web Coverage Service (WCS) protocol and a data discovery service through the OGC Catalog Service-Web Profile (CSW) protocol for NOAA GOES data. These two services talk to the legacy NOAA data systems on the back end, and provide open standards-compliant interfaces on the front end. These two service prototypes make NOAA GOES data queryable and accessible in GEOSS to serve different societal benefit areas (SBA). The lessons learned may be useful to others in upgrading legacy data systems to support open standards.
