ABSTRACT: This article revisits Alfred Adler’s views of war, his pacifism, and his explanation of nationalism and patriotism. The author explores mass dynamics in the origins and maintenance of tyrannical social systems. The author then presents the idea that tyranny is a core ingredient of wars at all levels, proposes the key features contributing to the development of the tyrannical lifestyle, and highlights the Individual Psychological education and prevention required to eradicate tyranny in families, social institutions, and countries.

ABSTRACT: The current war against Ukraine awakened the wish to look over Adler’s shoulder during World War I, when he served as a military neurologist. The literature review revealed an obituary on Adler written by Dr. Maksymilian Blassberg that provides some interesting details about Adler’s service at Kraków’s military hospital, which, in the context of existing field letters written by Adler, allows one to fill in some missing links and to draw a psycho biography of Adler during this difficult time. The parallels of his life stimulate us to think about the dangers and conditions of today’s wars.

ABSTRACT: This article proposes that rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT), including some potentially helpful innovations in it, when employed as part of psychotherapeutic and educational efforts, has the potential to reduce oppressive tendencies on the part of human beings, thus fostering community feeling and Social Interest (the constituent elements of Adlerian Gemeinschaftsgefühl ). In this way, REBT can help rob both tyranny and war making of much of their possible psychological underpinnings. The article discusses REBT principles and methods relevant to efforts to reduce tyranny and war, describes how REBT can promote Gemeinschaftsgefühl and related horizontal striving for perfection, and closes with suggestions for future directions based on the discussions.

ABSTRACT: Tyranny and wars can be seen as something of a self-propagating system in which wars are fought to overcome tyranny, leaving behind unresolved social forces and power dynamics that set up the next episode of tyranny. Wars can both challenge and promote desirable human qualities and sow the seeds of beneficial change from what has been learned, but the results depend on effective and empathetic communication that crosses cultural boundaries and includes marginalized voices—especially those most closely affected by war itself. Of particular interest and significance are stories that reveal the roots of moral conflict through moral injuries or episodes of experience that call into question the “rightness” of actions on the basis of commonly held values and beliefs. This article proposes conceptual models to help bridge existing gaps in communication and empathy between members of the military and veterans and others who may serve as interpreters, as a way of enhancing the capacity for an informed and engaged global citizenry to serve as witness to both individual- and system- level effects of war and tyranny. The exploration here is intentionally cross-disciplinary and includes concepts from sociology, psychology, history, geopolitics, phenomenology, somatics and physiology, and communication, all framed by Adlerian principles of “in-divisible” psychology. Conclusions include further thoughts on how to expand empathic space for alternative approaches to war and tyranny as well as an invitation to the Adlerian community to join (and help facilitate) the conversation.

Mental health awareness has been rapidly growing in India. A personality instrument that captures India’s culture and tradition would be highly beneficial. The concept of Adler’s lifestyle in Individual Psychology is congruent with cultural traits and concepts for Indians. The purpose of this research was to determine the validity and reliability of the Hindi translation of the BASIS-A psycho-metric properties with an Indian population. Participants were 117 students from two universities in India. The findings of this pilot study provided supporting evidence that the BASIS-A Hindi Version is an appropriate inventory for the Indian population.

ABSTRACT:Rumi, Adler, and Jung are luminaries who have profoundly influenced the understanding of human psychology. Rumi was not a scientist or psychologist, but a theologist who preferred to express his views on human identity, spirit, being, and becoming through tales and stories with poetic-symbolic language. Adlerian and Jungian psychology enable us to unfold, to some extent, the symbols and learn about the concealed and disguised meaning in Rumi’s tales and poems. Despite some philosophical-theoretical differences among the three, the meanings across their work are similar, including individuation, transformation, social influences, and the challenge of dying.

ABSTRACT:Alfred Adler focuses on the internal nature of humanity and the positive interaction of individuals in the social context. Human beings have a desire to have fulfilling relationships with others and be fulfilled internally. This promotes emotional and psychological well-being for the individual and ultimately has an impact on the community. Alfred Adler understood this concept clearly. His work on belonging, community feeling, and social interest is pertinent to understanding the inequality experienced by racial and ethnic minorities in the distribution of socioeconomic resources in the mental health and health-care systems. His work is also relevant to understanding how mental health professionals can address this issue. For these reasons, this article explores the need to understand Alfred Adler’s work and its relevance to racial and ethnic minorities and mental health professionals.
