From an international business risk management perspective, the widespread and catastrophic implications of the COVID-19 pandemic on the performance of Zara (Parent company Indetex) are studied and analyzed to contribute to ongoing research on the conventional brick-and-mortar retail business. Brick-and-mortar retail has headed into decline over the last several years, and e-retailing has grown exponentially during the lockdown period of the COVID-19 pandemic. The objective of this study is to understand and highlight the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis on the performance of Zara in Saudi Arabia. It was found that consumers’ preferences and purchasing behavior experienced a paradigm shift from the earlier behavior patterns. Because this crisis has caused many businesses to collapse altogether, this study tries to understand the specific factors that were responsible for affecting the overall performance of Zara. This helped generate several key findings. This study also aims to identify the main challenges relating to sustainable retailing at Zara and review how Zara has incorporated sustainability into their business. The concept of sustainability has gained widespread appeal due to growing concerns over environmental externalities. The results from this review also indicate that there is a lack of research on sustainable retailing with respect to Zara in the global market. Further, this review proposes potential digital strategies for Zara to maintain their performance in the global market during the COVID-19 pandemic.

After Markowitz proposed the mean-variance model, the research on portfolio problems has been a hot topic for many investors. The research on portfolio optimization is becoming more and more perfect. The investment theory changes from second-order moment to high-order moment, and from single-stage to multi-stage. More and more factors affecting portfolio optimization are taken into consideration. In this paper, a high-order portfolio optimization problem considering background risks is studied. Firstly, an optimization model of high-order moments including background risks is established, and the genetic algorithm is used to solve the model. Finally, the effects of background risks and high-order moments on the portfolio optimization model are analyzed empirically.

In this paper, the patterns of differences of some key economic variables among the four major U.S. regions are investigated. These four regions include: Northeast, Midwest, South and West. The grouping of individual U.S. states into these four regions is in accordance with the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Department of Commerce classification. Two main points are explored in this study. The first one examined and summarized the descriptive statistics of the variables for states in these four regions. These variables and data were culled from the databases of U.S. Census Bureau, the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), the U.S. Department of Commerce, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, World Population Review and the U.S Department of Agriculture. The second one covered the identification of the four regions’ similarities and dissimilarities for the identified variables. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) is the statistical tool for the testing hypothesis of four regions’ means equality. To ascertain whether the regions that ranked the highest actually differ from another and from the remaining regions, the researcher made use of multiple comparison procedures, specifically the Scheffe test.

Despite leaders’ investment in knowledge management practices, 76% of U.S. employees are hesitant to share tacit knowledge with co-workers. Researchers have suggested that willingness to share hinders the tacit knowledge transfer process. Employees become unwilling to share tacit knowledge with others due to cooperation and competition. The aim of this research is to understand the role of peer-to-peer cooperation on willingness to share tacit knowledge (WSTK). A total of 250 U.S. employees were sampled to measure knowledge-based trust (KBT) on WSTK. Pearson correlation and linear regression were used to investigate KBT and WSTK. Results indicated that KBT significantly predicted WSTK. Employee age and same-gender interactions did not influence the KBT-WSTK relationship. It was concluded that leaders and managers who promote KBT relationships are likely to encourage WSTK and create advantages over competitors.

The aim of the paper is to evaluate the effect of macroeconomic variables such as real GDP, unemployment levels, bond yields, stock market growth, and interest rate on the asset positions and financial performance of non-banking financial institutions (NBFIs) in Jamaica. This is reflected by return on asset (ROA) ratio, return on equity (ROE) ratio and total asset growth (TA). To explore the nature of the short and long-term relationship between dependent variables and independent variables, the research used a bound test approach to the co-integration and error correction process using time series data over the period from 2005Q1 to 2020Q3. The results showed that real gross domestic product (RGDP) and unemployment rate (UR) had a positive long-run relationship with ROA; government bond yield (GBY), UR, interest rate (IR) and stock market growth (JSEM) influenced ROE positively at the long-run; while all the independent variables showed a long-run causal relationship with TA. In the short-run estimates, however, minimal short-run causal relationships among variables could be identified with ROA, ROE and TA. Meanwhile, the research has shown there is a stable long-run relationship between the three profitability metrics and the variables that have a significant long-run relationship with them. This assumes that, in the event of some shock to the system, the model will converge back to equilibrium. Furthermore, the cumulative sum of recursive residuals (CUSUM) checks validated the model’s stability.

Safety is a legal requirement of mining industry. Effective safety measurements and risk management can serve the mine administration to lessen the dangers recognized in the mine. Autonomous technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) models have been integrated with the mining industry to ensure a safe working environment since a decade ago in the form of fully unmanned workfaces and mining robots. These autonomous technologies provide effective risk assessment as well as many economic profits such as cost reduction, continuous production, reducing labors exposure in dangerous environments, and enhanced protection. The main objective of this paper is to highlight the unidentified hazards during mining and find the solutions to those hazards by using AI and Machine Learning. In addition, this paper will also contribute a worthy resource for explaining the AI advancements in risk assessment in the mining industry. Another advantage of this paper is to fill the gaps in modern techniques and AI advancements in the safety measurements of coal mining industry.
