In light of the fascinating romance Der guote Gêrhart by Rudolf von Ems (ca. 1220) it proves to be a rather productive approach to literary texts at large to view them through the lens of communication strategies. Human life has always been determined by communicative instruments, whether they fail or succeed to achieve their goals. When individuals ask questions, probe issues by way of inquiries, exchange ideas, or examine conditions, they operate always by way of linguistic means, language. Social, political, philosophical, or religious issues are critically addressed through language, and this finds a vivid expression in Rudolf’s romance as well. The protagonist, perhaps more than in many other texts of his time, appears to be a perfect communicator who models his life and that of his contemporaries with the help of dialogues, relying on various languages and sophisticated, calculating speech acts. If this approach proves to be effective, we might gain a new theoretical approach to literary analysis at large which promises to reestablish the social relevance of literature globally since literature constantly develops models of communicative situations and thus contributes to the better development of human life.

Martin Buber’s life and works reveal a considerable interest in Christianity, of which the Jewish thinker had a very thorough knowledge. It has thus been compelling to inquire into the type of dialogue that he had with the various Christian denominations and some of their foremost representatives. One such study was carried out by Hans Urs von Balthasar (1905-1988), a Swiss Jesuit, German scholar, philosopher, theologian and translator. The short book that von Balthasar has devoted to Buber contrasts sharply with the lenifying tone frequently used by Christian analysts of his thought. Its fascinating, deep and well-informed comments, however, lead to set clearly the limits in the dialogue between Judaism and Christianity.

Transparency is one of the rhetorical constants in discourses referring to Northern European countries. What about museology in the Netherlands? Do Dutch science and society museums embrace this concept? This article aims to define what transparency is and to give examples that shed light on a very original Dutch museum strategy and direction. Transparency is not about showing everything, but about removing barriers to knowledge in order to create the conditions for every citizen to be aware of possible disasters that could affect the country.

The Young Hegelian critique, first religious and philosophical, then political and social, also applies, with Ruge and his Hallische, then Deutsche Jahrbücher, to literary history and criticism, but well noticed that literature should never be separated from the religious, philosophical, political, and social life. A legacy of Hegel, the opposition between the serious philosophical and political life and the literary “game”, in particular in its romantic and ironic version, prolonged by Heine, then the Young Germany, constitutes the central element of the literary conceptions of Ruge, gradually building a sort of philosophical and political introduction to German literature. According to Ruge, the danger of German romanticism lies in the camouflage of a reactionary policy behind the charm of an ironic “game”. And the antidotes he opposes to the Heinean Witz and “lie” are the seriousness and sincerity of Börne and of the political poetry of the 1840s. And this at the heart of its own contradiction between democratic universalism and somehow antisemitic nationalism inherited from the backgrounds of the Burschenschaft.
