This article deals with the problem of the imperial intervention of the emperor Constantine in Church matters and proposes a reconsideration of the active measures that he takes to favour the Christian Church. The paper presents a wider scope of the sources: on the one hand it re-examines the Christian ones, but above all, it adds others that, although they are temporally further away from Constantine, give a more complete approach of the role of the Roman emperor as head of the Empire and the specific functions he had to fulfil as pontifex maximus. The first part of the article covers the personal and institutional background of the emperor –that will help to situate him in his particular circumstances– and the second one re-evaluates specific and paradigmatic examples of the problem under consideration.

Vatican II was a great event of discernment about how to live the great Christian tradition, that goes back to Jesus of Nazareth, but now in a new cultural setting. In this context of aggiornamento, the Conciliar Assembly faced the question of the identity of the Catholic Church. In 2014, the publication of a new Italian Commentary on the Council began. The project shows how much progress has been made in these decades in the understanding of the Council through historical research and systematic-hermeneutic approaches. The analysis of the pre-Vatican II phase and the study of the following reception, offer a broad perspective, and have been useful for evaluating the changing processes that happened. It also contributes to the reflection on the path that the Church and all the reformulated ecclesial identities are called to follow today

Origen, in his Commentary on the Gospel of John, collects –from the mid-Platonic category of contemplation– the coeternity of the Father and the Son, in his peculiar way of showing the correlative character of fatherhood and filiation. If at all times we maintain reciprocity and interdependence between the Father and the Son, in this article we intend to delve into the unity of the Father and the Son from eternal generation, which keeps the Father always be getting the Son and the Son always being begotten by the Father. The resulting contemplation re-interpreted by Origen from the generationrelationship and the being of the Son configured as an assent to the will of the Father, the original donor principle: The Son is the Son as long as there is, eternally referred, towards the Father. This relationship of asymmetric reciprocity will become the postulate of the source of unity between both.

Abstract: The encyclical Sollicitudo rei socialis conceives the Catholic Social Teaching (CST) as an accurate formulation of a reflexion on the social problems, in the light of faith and the Church’s tradition. This article explores the formulation of the principle of solidarity since it is hard to find a clear or complete definition of the principle itself in magisterial texts. The article harkens back to the complex origins of the principle of solidarity in CST and in the social sciences, and extracts the main contents pointed out by the CST. Next, the importance of counting on an accurate definition of the principle is explained and a definition is proposed in view of previous CST. Given the influence of the social sciences on the formulation of CST, the article finally highlights the convenience of purifying questionable elements when it comes to present and explain solidarity as a principle. Key Words: Principle of solidarity, Catholic Social Teaching, Solidarism, Common good, Unity, Equality

Abstract: This article studies the role of the reader’s history in the Origenian discussion of the nature of Scripture according to Prin. IV, 1. In other words, it analyses the relevance of post-Biblical history in clarifying the nature of the biblical text. According to Origen, the historical events foretold by Jesus, which have recently been verified, such as the expansion and persecution of Christianity, show Jesus of Nazareth’s divine nature. In turn, the divinity of Jesus shows that the prophecies that had announced him are inspired (OT) and that the words of Jesus are divine (NT). Key Words: Origen, Biblical interpretation, history, signs of the times.
