Només alguns resulten totalment enigmàtics als ulls contemporanis (quelcom ben comprensible, n’hi ha que tenen una component arbitrària o atzarosa).Paraules clau: malnoms, Catalunya, barroc, canceller, justícia, arbitrarietatAbstract: Unexpectedly, in a prestigious collection of sentences issued by the chancellors of early modern Catalonia, several malefactors who sought the protection of ecclesiastical asylum were designated by their respective nicknames, in addition to their first and last names and, often, other identifying circumstances. Thus, the deep rootedness of this popular mechanism to designate people (of a certain social extraction?) is confirmed. Most of the seventy-five nicknames found are quite funny and provide information on the origin, characterization or complementary elements of the offenders. Only some are totally enigmatic to contemporary eyes (which is quite understandable, they often had an arbitrary or random component). Keywords: nicknames, Catalonia, earlymodern, chancellor, justice, arbitrariness

Abstract: This paper is an approach to the research work of religious women with a reputation for sanctity, nuns with a mystical profile, and writers in obedience of the spiritual confessor who are framed within the stream of publications of saints’ lives and hagiographic repertoires, of great apogee in the Early modern age. Teresa de San Bruno (1655-1722) abbess, monastery founder and biographer by obedience becomes an example of a religious who participated in the enterprise of the writings under the mandate of the confessor, but as an observer of Gertrudis María de la Santísima Trinidad (1660-1736).Keywords: Teresa de San Bruno; Gertrudis María de la Santísima Trinidad; biographies of nuns; writings in obedience; early modern period.

Paraules clau: Verdaguer, Francesc Matheu, Lluís Carles Viada i Lluch, volum Disperses, censura.Abstract: Among Verdaguer’s remaining unpublished manuscripts is a set prepared by Lluís Carles Viada i Lluch, which was commissioned by Francesc Matheu for the volume Disperses (1924) of The Complete Works of Jacint Verdaguer, and published in La Ilustració Catalana. Matheu, however, considered it inappropriate to publish most of the poems, probably because they belonged to the time of conflict with the hierarchy, were too incisive and, in some cases, directly alluded to specific people ( Marquis of Comillas, Bishop Morgades, Canon Jaume Collell, cousin Narcís Verdaguer i Callís). Matheu kept Viada’s transcriptions among his papers. In the process of critical edition, today we are publishing a contextualised representative sample of special interest of Verdaguer’s opus. Keywords: Verdaguer, Francesc Matheu, Lluís Carles Viada i Lluch, book Disperses, censorship.

Abstract: The aim of this article is to think about the figure of Vicent Manuel Branchat, priest and author of the early 19th century works. Thus, we review the previous studies that researchers and specialists have devoted to it, starting from the edition of Pesa chiqueta en un acte, edited by Joan Fuster and published in La decadència al País Valencià. In addition, we think of Branchat as a pre-Renaissance author in order to place him at the crossroads between the col·loqui and the sainet. Keywords: Branchat, 19th century literature, theatre, misogyny, pre-renaissance.

: This article offers an overview of the reception and critical construction of the so-called romancero erudito in the collections of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Based on an analysis of the sources and criteria used by the editors of the different collections of this period, it postulates that the negative view of the romancero erudito as a mere versification of chronicles is a critical construction of romantic philology, which needed a countertext on which to profile the old romances , which were the true object of its interest

Paraules clau: Isabel de Borja; família Borja; testaments; context cultural valencià en el trànsit de l’Edat Mitjana a l’Edat Moderna Abstract Based on the close and interpretive reading of the will of Isabel de Borja (c. 1400-1468), these few lines examine how this noble woman contributed to projecting an image of power in her lineage. With this case study focused on the testamentary memory of a woman Borja, it is also intended to shed light on some issues of women’s daily life, of patronage strategies and practices of female religiosity and sociability and of the Valencian cultural context in the transit from the Middle Ages to the Modern. Keywords: Isabel de Borja; Borja family; will; cultural context in the transition from the Middle Ages to the Modern Age

Abstract: Paying attention to the frequency of use is also a key aspect in the characterization of literary style. In this case, the linguistic resources utilized by authors are important because they contextualize them within their time, context, and cultural movement. Rare linguistics elements are not less relevant, that is those used only by one or a few authors. We analyze examples that confirm the methodological relevance of Corpus Linguistics, translation and analysis of PUs so that we can better understand what makes Catalan classics unique in what referes to their verbal art. To do so, we focus on UPs –[verbal] locutions— with rare occurrences and in some cases with only 1 or 2 occurrences (or up to 5, always in a few authors or even in one single author). We have analyzed examples of single (or rare) occurrences of the great Valencian poet Ausiàs March. Keywords: Corpus Linguistics, Medieval Catalan Literature, Humanism, Phraseological Units, Translation Studies, Ausiàs March

Abstract: The long poem entitled Llucrècia profanada, which the Valencian writer Ramon Lladró Mallí described as a «semi-serious, semi-comical poem» and published in 1878, recreates in literature one of the myths of the classical tradition that has had the greatest impact on western civilization: the rape of the Roman noblewoman Lucrecia. However, the circumstance that makes it more unique is that its public presentation was linked to the foundation of Lo Rat Penat, the cultural society around which the Valencian branch of the Catalan Renaissance would gravitate. In this article we analyze the symbolism and meaning that, from the first moment, the work of Lladró acquired. And we venture the possible reasons why, despite being a title repeatedly evoked, it fell into oblivionKeywords: 19th century, Renaissance, Lo Rat Penat, Ramon Lladró, myth of Lucrecia.
