The Dipo rite is a traditional practice that has been deeply rooted in the culture of the people of Yilo and Lower Manya Krobo in the Eastern Region of Ghana for many years. It is a rite of passage that marks the transition of young girls into womanhood, and it is believed to be a crucial part of the social and cultural fabric of the community. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the relevance of the Dipo rite among the people of Yilo and Lower Manya Krobo. The review is based on empirical and conceptual studies that explore the social, cultural, and economic aspects of the rite. The studies reveal that the Dipo rite is an important cultural practice that promotes social cohesion and fosters a sense of community among the people. It is also associated with traditional beliefs and values that are deeply rooted in the community's history and identity. The studies further show that the Dipo rite is an economic activity that generates income for the community, particularly for those who provide services and products associated with the rite. Finally, the paper proposes that the Dipo rite's relevance can be explained through the lens of cultural ecology, which considers the relationships between humans and their environment and how cultural practices are shaped by ecological factors. In conclusion, this paper provides valuable insights into the relevance of the Dipo rite among the people of Yilo and Lower Manya Krobo in the Eastern Region of Ghana and highlights the importance of preserving this cultural practice for future generations.

Arbitration has become the most popular dispute resolution mechanism all over the world because of the finality of the arbitral award. In the context of this article, the legal approaches distinguishing between domestic and foreign arbitral award are very important and these legal approaches differ from one arbitration law to another. By using doctrinal legal research methodology, this paper aims to comprehensively analyse the arbitral award in Libya. Data collected through library-based approach and both types of data are analytically examined. This article found that the Libyan law of Civil and Commercial Procedures of 1953 has several legal gaps that need to be addressed in order to bring it in line with modern arbitration laws globally. The article then goes on to make several recommendations for improving the Libyan law.

Purpose of the study: This study mainly aimed to identify the relationship between: (1) disability and depression; and (2) depression and its relations to age, gender, walking ability, self-care dependence, leisure activities, regular exercises, facilitated environment, satisfied peer relationships, and verbal abuse among children with physical disabilities.Methodology: The research design of the study was correlational. A sample of 60 children (n=60) with physical disabilities between 6-15 years were selected by using the purposive sampling method. Quantitative data was collected through a disability scale, depression scale, and a questionnaire on demographic information. Data were analyzed by using IBM SPSS software.Main Findings: Physical disability showed a significant positive relationship with depression. The study were unable to reveal a statistically significant gender difference of depression. The depression scores of participants showed a positive correlation with age while depression was showing negative relationships with ability to walk, self-care dependence, leisure activities, facilitated environment, satisfied relationship with peers, and having goals but not with regular exercises and verbal abuse by peers.Applications of the study: Since the study revealed a potential alarming condition on mental health of children with disabilities, it is that to take prevention initiatives in mental health practice including medico-psychological interventions and social work practices. Further, research findings suggest elaborating existing methodology of educational, health, developmental and policy practices into an active and respectful engagement as well as impactful and responsive outcomes.Originality of the study: The study enabled to extend the established positive relationship between disability and depression among adult population into child population also. Initially the research addresses the lack of comprehensive scientific research on developing disability-inclusive programmes in Sri Lanka. With understanding disability among children as a dimension of diversity, the research highlighted the need of a multi-disciplinary approach to move problem to solution.

Arbitration is a legal process in which disputes between two or more parties are resolved by an impartial third party, known as an arbitrator, rather than by a court of law. In the context of this article, the legal approaches distinguishing between domestic and foreign arbitral award are very important and they differ from one arbitration law to another. By using doctrinal legal research methodology, this article aims to examine the legal approaches distinguishing between domestic and foreign arbitral awards in the context of Libya. Both primary and secondary sources are used and then analysed using critical and analytical approaches. In order to determine the legal nature and nationality of an arbitral award, the paper has found that there are several approaches in the study of this issue. The Libyan approach is quite outdated as it is not in line with recent developments in the field of arbitration and international trade. Therefore, it is recommended that Libyan lawmakers are encouraged to adopt a comprehensive approach such as the one followed by the Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration 2006. This is vital to cope with the developments adopted by modern arbitration laws.

Abstract: Background: The epidemic of obesity in developed countries is commonly associated with poor dietary habits and a sedentary lifestyle. Obesity and overweight are defined as an excessive buildup of body fat and pose a risk to health. Adolescent obesity continues to be a subject of increasing global public health importance and is considered a vital risk factor for obesity and associated morbidity in adulthood. The objective is to determine the prevalence of obesity among school adolescents and estimate the relationship between obesity and some predicted risk factors (physical activity, eating habits). Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out among (500) students in AL-Hilla city from the period 12th January to 2nd April 2022 at (10) secondary schools. The questionnaire is composed of two parts; Part one: involved the socio-demographic characteristics of students and their parents. This section also includes BMI was calculated by measuring height& weight; weight was measured with domestic scales and height with a meter rule and classified according to international classification. Part two is related to the risk factors of obesity. Data were collected through direct interviews with students for filling the tool required by spending approximately 20-30 minutes. Finally analyzed electronically by using (SPSS) version 24 by application of frequencies, percentages as descriptive, inferential as correlational statistics, and logistic regression. Results: Obesity and overweight were predominant at age (16-17) (58.6 %), and most of them were male (56.4 %) whose come from governmental schools (86.8 %). 28.8% of the sample were overweight and (14.4%) were obese children. Boys are riskier to be overweight and obese than girls ( OR= 1.55, 95%CI (1.33 -1.807). Adolescents who did vigorous physical activity were less risky to be obese one time compared to those with non-vigorous activity OR=1.072, 95% CI= (0.966-1.189). In addition, obesity has a likelihood to decrease five times in a student who consumed the fruit more than three times compared to those with one time (OR= 5.189, 95% CI= 5.189-5.189). Conclusion: The study conclude that around forty-three percent of adolescent school students were either overweight or obese. So, indicated that obesity was predominant at age (16-17) among Iraqi adolescent students aged 14-19 years. In addition, adolescents' eating habits and physical activity were highly significant factors in overweight/ obesity. Therefore, interventions are recommended to focus on these risk variables of overweight and obesity.

This critical discourse analysis (CDA) investigates how The Hindu and the Washington Post (WP) construct their online news in depicting the Israeli onslaught on Gaza in August 2022. Halliday’s transitivity system was adopted to explore the hidden ideologies and analyze the textual choice or words' features in the clauses of thirteen (13) news articles from The Hindu and nine (9) from WP. The study's findings indicate that the most dominant processes in both news media were the verbal and material processes. Within the verbal process, it was divided into three sides: Palestinian, Israel and neutral. The findings reveal that both media have common strategies to represent the Israeli and neutral verbal process, while the selected media share similarities and differences in representing the Palestinian verbal process. The findings through the material process suggest that both media show Israel as an actor more than as a goal. They tend to use processes ‘verbs’ that are associated with extreme violence and less violence with Israel, whereas Palestinian are associated with less violence process, but the process is supported with adjectives, adverbs and numbers to place it in extreme violence. The analysis is then followed by the revealed methods and techniques used by the selected media. Overall, both news media have hidden ideologies to construct their news articles. Based on these empirical evidences, (CDA) appears to play an essential part in understanding the language that is employed in media discourses.

The purpose of this article is to shed light on the media coverage of the initial stages of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The Western media's reporting on the conflict was marked by biased and discriminatory comments. The Ukrainian refugees who fled to neighboring countries were compared unfavorably to refugees from other war-torn countries, based on superficial and irrelevant criteria such as skin color, religion, race, and qualifications, rather than on the basis of their human suffering. The European media coverage normalized conflicts in other parts of the world, particularly in the Middle East, portraying them as expected and commonplace. Conversely, conflicts occurring in Europe are deemed shameful for humanity, and white individuals are seen as unsuitable for becoming refugees. Additionally, the article examines the broader war scenario, suggesting that the current conflict may lead the world towards a third world war, due to the escalating tension between Russia and Western powers. The conflict may be geographically centered in Ukraine, but it is essentially a battle between Russia and Ukraine, with backing from the United States and Europe. This conflict has also had ripple effects on other nations, as tensions have risen between China and Taiwan, North Korea and Japan, and Kosovo and Serbia.

Conversely, conflicts occurring in Europe are deemed shameful for humanity, and white individuals are seen as unsuitable for becoming refugees. Additionally, the article examines the broader war scenario, suggesting that the current conflict may lead the world towards a third world war, due to the escalating tension between Russia and Western powers. The conflict may be geographically centered in Ukraine, but it is essentially a battle between Russia and Ukraine, with backing from the United States and Europe. This conflict has also had ripple effects on other nations, as tensions have risen between China and Taiwan, North Korea and Japan, and Kosovo and Serbia.","PeriodicalId":426776,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124488547","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
