The III Centenary of Don Quixote in 1905 was the ephemeris that came to channel the desire for national regeneration following the disaster of ’98, but what has not been pointed out so far, nor has it been given the importance it deserves, is that some Spanish women writers reinterpreted in a feminist key the national symbols of that regeneration, that is, they used Don Quixote and Dulcinea as tools for their claims, demanding a change in the lives of women, and defending their inclusion into higher education. Likewise, they took the opportunity to weave networks of scholarly women and to instruct other women, giving rise to a parallel centenary, to another centenary, which was developed on the margins of the official and, as such, deserves to be analysed.

The structure of La Galatea, as it can be asserted for the rest of the Spanish pastoral books as well as for the longer works of prose of the Spanish Golden Age, is characterised by two different narrative levels, one primary and the other secondary: the main plot and the interspersed episodes, of which there are four: Lisandro and Leonida; Teolinda, Artidoro, Leonarda and Galercio; Timbrio, Silerio, Nisida and Blanca; and Rosaura, Grisaldo and Artandro. The main objective of the present study is to conduct a detailed analysis, both thematically and formally, of the fourth of them, while establishing their intratextual relations with the rest of Cervantes’ literary production.

This article offers a comparative study between Cervantes’ Dialogue of the Dogs and Ginés Carrillo Cerón’s 1635 sequel focusing on its three main discrepancies: the omission of the thematic link between The Deceitful Marriage and the Dialogue in the second part, Cervantes and Cerón’s different approach to the picaresque genre and Cerón’s rejection of the marvelous elements from the first Dialogue. These discrepancies not only allow us to reach a better understanding of Cervantes’ text, but also to study the literary and ideological quandaries that readers of the seventeenth century might have faced.

This article aims at analyzing The Rodaja Licenciate (1973), a television adaptation based on The Vidriera Licenciate (Miguel de Cervantes, Exemplary Novels, 1613). Within the context of the successful dramatic programs aired on Radio Televisión Española from the ‘60s to the ‘90s, I will examine the transformations executed on this medium length-film, directed by Antonio Chic whose script was written by Miguel Marías: 1) the hero’s (Tomás Rodaja) reinterpretation; and 2) the fusion between this novel and dramatic techniques.

In 1905, during the Third Centenary of the original publication of the Quixote, was published in Figueras the book Celebres aventuras de don Quijote, El Caballero de la Triste Figura. Containing a large number of beautiful illustrations by Brinsley Le Fanu, it was a children’s version of the novel by Miguel de Cervantes. Edited by the Sociedad espanola de tratados religiosos y libros, this publication generated an intense and curious controversy and was promoted by the active Anglican community of the town that had previously translated and adapted an English version, The wonderful adventures of Don Quixote, the knight of the sorrowful countenance, published in London in 1902.
