Objective: To determine whether the two-month low-dose methylprednisolone therapy might improve symptomatic, radiologic, and laboratory findings of long COVID-19. Many patients have emerged to hospitals with residual symptoms due to Sars Cov-2 pneumonia in the post-COVID period. They had not enough treatment and need a novelty medical approach. Methods: This study is single-center, retrospective, and investigated the response to methylprednisolone therapy in long COVID-19 patients with persistent symptoms between October 2020 and April 2021. The medical history, blood analysis

The Association of Gene Polymorphisms Linked to Caffeine Use with Athletic Performance

Caffeine's use as a performance-enhancing supplement among professional athletes progressively increased after it was taken off the World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) list of banned substances. The present review looks at the interactions caused by different levels of caffeine ergogenicity in athletes and gene polymorphisms that affect caffeine ergogenic effect in the current literature. Therefore, a comprehensive analysis of the studies available in the literature and the respective study results have evaluated caffeine ergogenicity in athletes and gene polymorphisms. The search for studies was performed through five databases. Individual responses to caffeine consumption may differ from person to person due to multigene and multifactorial interactions. Adenosine A2A receptor ( ADORA2A ) and Cytochrome P450 1A2 ( CYP1A2 ) are two genes thought to have the most effects on caffeine's ergogenicity. The function of these two genes accounts for most inter-individual variations in studies after caffeine ingestion. Based on the findings, it is understood that the contribution of caffeine use to individual performance development varies over time due to changes in both environmental and epigenetic interactions, as well as parameters such as circadian rhythm, training loads, nutritional routine, habitual caffeine use, drug intake, expectation, time of consumption, and heredity. As a result, individual caffeine responses are highly complex and involve multiple modifiers.

Background: The aim of this study is to examine the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the number of applications to the Algology Outpatient Clinic and the interventional treatments applied. Methods: The clinical and demographic data of the patients who applied to the Algology Outpatient Clinic between 01.03.2019 and 01.03.2021 were scanned retrospectively. Patients were classified in terms of age, gender, cause of pain and interventional treatment. According to the data obtained, the patients were divided into two groups as before the pandemic (Group I) and during the pandemic (Group II). Results: A total of 14412 patient (9194 patients in Group I and 5218 patients in Group II) data were analyzed. In both Group II (63.3%) and Group I (69.4%) women's admission rate was higher. The mean age was 61.0 in Group II and 55.5 in Group I. Interventional treatment application rate was lower in Group II (13%) than Group I (52.4%). The most common interventional treatment was for myofascial pain in Group I (p=0.001) and for low back pain in Group II (p=0.001). In addition, the rate of interventional treatment for joint pain (p=0.035) in Group I, upper extremity pain (p=0.001) and headache (p=0.020) in Group II was higher. Conclusion: The COVID-19 pandemic caused a decrease in the number of patients who applied to the Algology Outpatient Clinic and the rate of interventional treatments applied. Pharmacological agents preferred more in the treatment. During the pandemic, the rate of interventional treatments for low back pain, headache and extremity pain increased.

Halitosis due to Hypothyroidism of Unknown Cause: Two Case Reports

Halitosis is a frequent complaint which is estimated to be around 50%-60% of the general population and that carries serious personal and social repercussions. It is estimated that 10%-13% of halitosis causes are extraoral etiology. It originates from the tongue dorsum in patients with a healthy periodontium and good oral hygiene. Most of the causes of halitosis are intraoral origin although many other extraoral systemic etiologies are known. Overt hypothyroidism as a cause of halitosis has never been described in medical literature before. We strongly suggest that hypothyroidism induced hyposalivation gives rise to bacterial overgrowth and eventually halitosis. Two cases with moderate halitosis and overt hypothyroidism who were treated only with thyroxine until achieving euthyroidism are presented in this article. They were both completely recovered from halitosis after 45-50 days and had no complaints after 8 months

The Methods of Postural Assessment used for Breast Cancer: A Narrative Review

Asymmetry and postural changes can be triggered after breast cancer treatment, which is the most common type of cancer among women. The posture disorders, which can often be ignored can cause different pathologies of the musculoskeletal system. Moreover, these may adversely affect psychology and body image. Cancer patients are a most sensitive group though cancer treatments have many side effects such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery. One of the most common side effects is postural changes which needs to be assessed carefully and detailly in all individuals. There are several studies on postural changes in breast cancer survivors in the literature; thus, various postural evaluations and different treatment methods have been used. However, there is no consensus on the gold standard evaluation method or a comparison study of the reliability of the methods in this patient group. The aim of this narrative review is to contribute to the literature while discussing which method could be preferred by summarizing the methods of postural assessment used for breast cancer. In accordance with this purpose, comprehensive searches were made using different keywords in different electronic databases such as PUBMED, Google Scholar
