This article reviews calculation methods of the electric drive and generator based on the field regulated reluctance machine. It considers the initial data for design of the FRRM: power, voltage, nominal and maximum rotating speed. The article reviews optimal values for the stator and rotor of the FRRM. The FRRM is compared with a synchronous machine, a DC machine and an induction machine. South Ural State University is grateful for financial support of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation (grant No 13.9662.2017 /BP).

Modeling problem of polymer melt temperature range in extruder screw was solved as a function of spatiotemporal distribution of extruder cylinder temperature. Structural description of automated process as an object with distributed parameters was obtained. Automatic system of distributed control of polymer melt temperature in a single-screw extruder metering zone was developed. Accuracy of control parameter stabilization is much higher in comparison with the known solutions.

The authors have developed design principles for physical models of the smart grid system. This system includes physical models of measurement units, control and protection devices, and provides data transfer in compliance with IEC 61850. The authors propose to use GOOSE-messages to transmit measurement results from the measuring current and voltage transformers located at remote nodes of energy network. The results can significantly reduce data transfer rate demand of the central relay protection and automation network systems.

The paper presents an option for automation of the operational procedure at the concentrating coal factory by means of new methods and control algorithms. A crane control automatic system allows choosing the best possible motion trajectories for fast material handling operations and, regardless of processing and disturbing factors, controlling the dynamic state of the handled load which makes material handling significantly more efficient. This automation option implies “examining” of the warehouse surface and automatic choice of the crane motion algorithm. This algorithm takes into account the height of magnetite bulk and ensures fastest possible material handling. To move load to a specified distance without its swinging under prior load mass uncertainty, rope length, external uncontrolled disturbances (friction, wind load), it is proposed to build an adaptive control system with an identification algorithm and an implicit reference model using “simplified” adaptation conditions. The article contains an example demonstrating the efficiency of the proposed approach.)

The work covers the conceptual model supporting situation evaluation, forecast and control at power grid companies. The purpose of the paper is to design the intelligent instruments, which support making decisions by management of the Far Eastern power grid companies and regulators of their activities. We show the main stages of model development and provide the expanded algorithm for the model operation as an observer. We also offer the decision optimization methods. The work shows results of model application in other professional areas.

The work deals with upgrading of the temperature mode control in residential accommodation with electric heating due to transition from simple control systems to adaptive self-adjusting systems. Essential shortcomings of widespread on-off relays and other types of regulators are noted. The thermal balance of accommodation at the air heating stage from the initial to the set value is considered. The accommodation is presented as an object with lumped parameters. The paper contains the air temperature curve at the maximum capacity possible at the accommodation heating stage. It defines the transfer function of a control object by three temperature measurements made at the accommodation heating stage. The transfer function is used for selection of an integrating controller with the maximum response speed. The authors received an analytical expression of the law of the heater's capacity control at accommodation heating stages and stabilization of the set temperature mode. A function chart and frequency characteristics of the control system are given. The obtained results form the basis for establishment of an adaptive self-adjusting system assuring a high quality of temperature control in accordance with the individual accommodation parameters.

Due to the increase in production of crude heavy oil in the total hydrocarbon production, traditional ways of transporting high-viscosity and solidifying oils become a bottleneck within the oil production flowchart. In this connection, it is necessary to conduct research aimed at development of new transport systems. To solve the problems associated with pumping highly viscous liquids, including eliminating oil sludge stains or cleaning tanks, peristaltic pumps are increasingly used worldwide. Improvements in the design and new tube material solutions also expand the application range of this technology. Promising developments of magnetically elastomers (MAE) offer new opportunities for their use in various contemporary appliances and new inventions. In this design of the pump unit, there are no elements that mechanically acting on the chamber-channel, to push the substance through the pipeline. This will increase the resource of the material of the working chamber-channel. At the same time, the use of traveling-wave deformation in the pipeline will significantly extend the scope of peristaltic pumps. Furthermore, unlike existing pump designs developed for transporting highly viscous and pasty substances, including peristaltic ones, this design allows changing transport velocity directly during transport with a wide range.

The widest application of the Radon transform and its various modifications is digital image processing. The article deals with the experimental algorithm of steganographic embedding and extraction of hidden messages using tomographic methods. In the course of the research, an analysis was made of known methods of steganographic embedding and extraction of hidden messages. It is necessary to investigate and analyze real containers to determine the presence of internal information, as well as a computational experiment to determine the parameters necessary for the operation of the algorithm. The purpose of this study is to test the feasibility of implementing tomographic techniques in steganography.

Variable frequency drives are widely used in industrial enterprises and are therefore an influential part of electric load. The aim of this study was to define a relation between voltage unbalance and variable frequency drive power. The mathematical models of drives with a cycloconverter and the frequency converter with a DC link (independent current and voltage inverter) were elaborated. Mathematical models enable computations of unbalanced modes of power grid with response to electric load impact. This solution increases computation accuracy.

This paper describes the basic principles of a new industrial revolution on the design and development of the switch reluctance motors (SRM). The main focus is directed on the principle of digital control and the creation of a unified database and data information between the different parts of the system. The main developed and studied materials allow optimizing the process of the SRMs. A new method for reducing the electromagnetic torque ripple in SRMs has been demonstrated. The results of the conducted optimization have been shown.
