This article surveys the technological objects powered by semiconductor converters. It gives the classification of semiconductor converters, their scope and application and the functional diagram of the dynamic compensator voltage distortion (DCVD). The article states the problem of reliability of installations in which the semiconductor converters are used for electric power mechanisms. Further, the results of the analysis of statistics for causes of semiconductor converters failures are given. The ways of improving the reliability of semiconductor converters and electric drives are provided. A comparison of different drive systems according to the criteria of profitability and reliability is given. The analysis of existing methods for increasing performance reliability is provided here. The article is an example of the asynchronous motor lifetime calculation. It is a classification according to the degree of electrical reliability. The paper describes the formal model of the information video blocks submitting and synchronization. Also, the article describes the technology of multi-language video content support implemented in polysubtitles video player format based on that model. The essence of this technology consists of displaying multiple subtitle streams in different languages. This approach allows us to provide detailed technical information to the staff that is servicing the digital substation (and other complex objects) and speaking different languages. The technology development of the player is based on the UML diagrams using. The functionality of this software allows playing video files of various formats with parallel display of multiple subtitle streams in a single window. There is a possibility of video playback in multiple windows with different subtitles and centralized management and fast search and switching of video blocks. During the development of this software there were reviewed multiple formats video files and subtitle files. The .mkv fail was parsed during the coding in C#, on the Windows Presentation Foundation platform. The information inside this container became available for playback and setting up. The result of the application of this technology is the simultaneous display of multiple subtitle streams in different languages. During the development of this desktop application the authors also designed an easy intuitive user-friendly interface. The design elements are standard Windows Presentation Foundation applications.

Reliable mathematical procedures and software systems to carry out the automatic cardiac rhythm regulation which include recording of rhythmogram signal, processing and formation of diagnostic conclusions with subsequent correction of patient's condition, are the important part of medical cyber-physical systems (MCPS). To detect and correct the arrhythmias of a different nature at early stages, we are to consider the problems of mathematical simulation of the non-stationary heart rate variability (NHRV). In contrast to the traditional simulating of a rhythmogram as an amplitude-modulated signal (AMR), we propose the model of a rhythmogram as a frequency-modulated signal (FMR) having the form of Gaussian peaks of equal height with the centers located on the irregular grid of time. We determined the quantitative spectral parameters of FMR by the double continuous wavelet transform (DCWT). Within the framework of the traditional approach, we calculated these parameters using the fast Fourier transform (FFT). We compared the FMR and AMR approaches to NHRV and detected the difference in spectral properties calculated on the basis of these two models. The deviations from the true values of spectral parameters in the AMR approach were especially evident when NHRV had a noticeable trend throughout the total period of observation. The possibilities to apply the proposed FMR concept for continuous real-time diagnosis of the cardiovascular system under load, for example, during various functional tests, are discussed.

The research of the process of automatic gripping of flexible containers made from air-penetrating materials with the help of vacuum for their consecutive filling with free-flowing products has been conducted. Mathematic dependencies for calculation of major parameters of the vacuum gripping devices for flexible containers have been presented and calculations of their bearing capacity have been conducted. Computer modelling of the process for gripping and holding of the objects from air-penetrating materials with the help of vacuum gripping devices has been completed. An experimental device to study the influence of the quantity and diameter of the vacuum grippers on the probability of flexible container gripping has been designed and assembled. The degree of vacuum necessary to reliably hold an empty flexible container made from polypropylene has been experimentally determined. The results confirm possibility of using vacuum gripping devices for automatic manipulation of a flexible container from air-penetrating materials when it is filled with free-flowing products and can be used in structural-parametrical synthesis, tuning and optimization of the parameters for automatic sorting of free-flowing products into flexible containers.

The object of the research work is the multilevel high-voltage converters with Cascaded H-Bridges (CHB) controlled by two different methods. They are the sorting algorithm and the fundamental harmonic displacement method. The comparison was carried out on the basis of mathematical modeling for the case of cascade connection of 10 cells with the rated voltage on the capacitors equal to 1000 V. Such circuits can be implemented, in particular, in high power STATCOMs with the voltage of 10 kV. Such converters are widely applied to compensate reactive power of electrical facilities at ironworks, for example at arc furnaces or continuous hot or cold rolling mills. In the process of control system design, it is necessary to solve a dual problem, particularly, to provide balancing of capacitor voltages for the minimum time and within a definite range. It is also necessary to avoid the overloading of the slave switching devices caused by the increase in the number of commutations. The modeling results showed that the suggested methods of balancing can provide the acceptable voltage quality at the point of connection, THD of output voltage is 5.23% and 7% for the first and the second method respectively. When the sorting algorithm is used, balancing takes less time as compared with the displacement method. However, this is achieved at the cost of higher load imbalance of semiconductor switches, which is undesirable in terms of thermal conditions. When balancing was carried out using the displacement method, the load of semiconductor switches was more uniform. This method can be recommended for practical application as the main one.

This paper describes reactive power compensation regimes at the level of the oil field electrical substation of the oil and gas production enterprise in terms of active power losses minimization in the feed lines and transformers using local and centralized reactive power sources as well as electrotechnical complexes equipped with synchronous motors. The studies are carried out for a typical oil field electrical substation to determine the most economical mode of the reactive power compensation regime. The following values are determined during the calculations: voltages in the given points of the circuit, voltage drops in the branches of the circuit, currents in the branches, active and reactive power losses in the branches of the circuit and total power losses. Analysis of the obtained results has demonstrated that the optimal regime for the generalized circuit at the oil field electrical substation, in terms of energy saving in feed lines and power transformers, is the overcompensation regime by 30…40 % on the 6.3 kV side. This regime can be achieved by means of the reservoir pressure maintenance system synchronous motors transition to the regime of the reactive power generation. The results of the oil and gas production enterprise certification show that the majority of them have the available reactive power of the synchronous motors which makes it possible to ensure the given regime on the buses of the oil field electrical substation.

Remote backup protection is installed at the ends of the power line of 35–220 kV and provides detection of short-circuit on the low-voltage side of branch transformers. To support remote protection on 110 kV lines and above with two or multi-way power feed, it is mandatory to implement a three-stage remote protection from interphase short-circuit (phase-to-phase fault). To implement line protection with remote protection on a substation (in case of protection equipment operation failure, breaker failure on high voltage side and signal transfer device failure) seems to be more difficult comparing to a line short-circuit. It is related to limited possibilities of line protection sensitivity and, in many cases, operation parameters of a loaded line that define relay protection stage protection significantly exceed nominal power of the branch transformer.

The article deals with the control system for the electric drives of drilling winches and rotors based on a programmable logic controller and thyristor converters. The block diagram of the controller is described. The shortcomings of the existing control system associated with the failure of the controller module are revealed. The failure statistics of the controller modules for 2014-2015 is given. The application of a functional circuit for rotation speed generating by using an analog signal in a thyristor converter control system and a device for switching the analog input signals of a controller are suggested. The device allows automatically switching the analog input signals of the controller when the input analogue signal module fails. It is shown that the proposed device has made it possible to reduce the unproductive time of drilling crews.

Power industry development and availability of the Smart Grig concept presuppose intellectualization of power supply systems, Microgrid development and emerging of active consumers' class, which stipulates the development of automatic control of active consumers' power supply. The system will be a technical basis for a universal customer-grid interface. The paper proposes an architecture for such a control system based on typical intellectual electronic devices (IED) and connection channels in accordance with IEC 61850. It proposes a principle for determining active consumers based on search for optimal variants of short-time partial customers' disconnection (restrictions). Availability of production reserves and various types of customer excess potentially enable a short time disconnection without process interruption nor production suspension. Each customer is analyzed with a simulation aggregative model of the process system. This paper presents an example of current enterprise analysis: effective variants of disconnections without serious consequences for a customer are found. The method for determining the optimal control action during disconnection of a number of customers is proposed. All the proposed methods can be implemented with the automatic system controlling active consumers' power-supply, which will improve reliability of their power supply and mitigate disconnection consequences.

The system will be a technical basis for a universal customer-grid interface. The paper proposes an architecture for such a control system based on typical intellectual electronic devices (IED) and connection channels in accordance with IEC 61850. It proposes a principle for determining active consumers based on search for optimal variants of short-time partial customers' disconnection (restrictions). Availability of production reserves and various types of customer excess potentially enable a short time disconnection without process interruption nor production suspension. Each customer is analyzed with a simulation aggregative model of the process system. This paper presents an example of current enterprise analysis: effective variants of disconnections without serious consequences for a customer are found. In operation of electric systems, its constituents, cables, switching devices are heated up by the electric current. As the current is switched on, all the heat received by the conductor is spent to increase its temperature which in the absence of cooling rises linearly. In reality, the heating is followed by loss of the heat to the environment. And the rate of this loss increases with increase in the difference of temperatures of the conductor surface and the environment. The rate of temperature increase in the cable cores slows down, temperature tends to the highest extreme value providing for thermal balance. The influence of thermoelectric effects on heating of low-voltage switching devices caused by communication between the thermal and electrophysical phenomena in electric contacts is considered. Research of the resistance size of contact groups tightening which depends on the contact surface actual platform radius and the switching device current are provided.
