Monitoring cognitive workload from speech signals has received a lot of attention from researchers in the past few years as it has the potential to improve performance and fidelity in human decision making. The bulk of the research has focused on classifying speech from talkers participating in cognitive workload experiments using simple reading tasks, memory span tests and the Stroop test, typically into three levels of low, medium and high. This study focuses on using parameters extracted from the vocal tract and the voice source components of the speech signal for cognitive workload monitoring. The experiment used in this study contains 92 participants, the levels were obtained by using a reading task and three Stroop tasks which were randomly ordered for each participant and an adequate rest time was used in-between tasks to mitigate the effect of cognitive workload from one task affecting the subsequent one. Vocal tract features were obtained from the first three formants and voice source features were extracted using signal analysis on the inverse filtered speech signal. The results show that on their own, the vocal tract features outperform the voice source features. The lowest MCR of 33.92 ± 1.05 was achieved with a SVM classifier.

Emotional decoding ability has been repetitively shown to be impaired in alcoholic patients. The present study aims to extend previous findings on emotions deficits examining the auditory stimuli recognition ability in alcoholism. Twenty-six alcohol-dependent patients, abstinent from alcohol for at least four weeks, were compared to 26 controls matched for sex, age and socioeconomic level. Subjects were asked to listen to 20 vocal stimuli expressing happiness, anger, sadness, surprise and fear. Alcoholic subjects were found significantly less accurate than controls, making more labeling error in recognizing vocal emotions conveying anger and sadness. Alcohol dependent subjects appear to be deficient in the ability to understand emotional valence of auditory stimuli, which may result in errors of judgment within social interactions. Clinical and research implications are discussed.

Socially assistive robot with interactive behavioral capability have been improving quality of life for a wide range of users by taking care of elderlies, training individuals with cognitive disabilities or physical rehabilitation, etc. While the interactive behavioral policies of most systems are scripted, we discuss here key features of a new methodology that enables professional caregivers to teach a socially assistive robot (SAR) how to perform the assistive tasks while giving proper instructions, demonstrations and feedbacks. We describe here how socio-communicative gesture controllers - which actually control the speech, the facial displays and hand gestures of our iCub robot - are driven by multimodal events captured on a professional human demonstrator performing a neuropsychological interview. Furthermore, we propose an original online evaluation method for rating the multimodal interactive behaviors of the SAR and show how such a method can help designers to identify the faulty events.

Touchscreen smartphones are powerful devices capable considerably help people with special needs. Despite this, a large number of visually impaired people in the Czech Republic hesitate to adopt them. In this paper, we present results of a qualitative study (n × 6) and quantitative study (n × 25), which explore how visually impaired people use their current phones, why some of them hesitate to adopt touchscreen smartphones and what is a trend in adoption of these technologies in the near future. The results indicate that participants using modern touchscreen smartphone consider themselves more independent than before when they used older keypad smartphones. They also use more internet related and entertainment applications, along with a large number of different navigation applications. However, it appears that one of the biggest fears of keypad smartphone users is the low speed of writing. Finally, it seems that keypad smartphones will be obsolete in few years even within this user group.

The paper discusses the presentations of special great works of art to compare their system of "representation" and meaning to the similar identifiable and re-interpreted symbols, imagery and meaning communications in between Jung and Pauli's "imagination and interpretation space". In the first part of the paper we attempt to prove hypothesis of the meaningful synchronicity by the symbolic interpretation of three interrelated, stunningly beautiful and unique images of the apostles on the Holy Crown of Hungary.

The identification of emotional hints from speech shows a large number of applications. Machine learning researchers have analyzed sets of acoustic parameters as potential cues for the identification of discrete emotional categories or, alternatively, of the dimensions of emotions. Experiments have been carried out over records including simulated or induced emotions, even if recently more research has been carried out on spontaneous emotions. However, it is well known that emotion expression depends not only on cultural factors but also on the individual and also on the specific situation. In this work we deal with the tracking of annoyance shifts during real phone-calls to complaint services. The audio files analyzed show different ways to express annoyance, as, for example, disappointment, impotence or anger. However variations of parameters derived from intensity combined with some spectral information and suprasegmental features have shown to be very robust for each speaker and annoyance rate. The work also discussed the annotation problem and proposed an extended rating scale in order to include annotators disagreements. Our frame classification results validated the annotation procedure. Experimental results also showed that shifts in customer annoyance rates could be potentially tracked during phone calls.

Figural abstraction test was proven to be one of the best ways of measuring intelligence. Over the last year we have been working on a smartphone version of such a test which included adaptiveness. When the user is solving the test, the difficulty of the next exercise is determined by the previously answered questions, meaning if the majority of the answers were correct, the difficulty level is raised, otherwise lowered. In this application the exercises were randomly generated using pre-determined patterns. This way the number of different exercises were significantly higher than in the case of such a test, where all the exercises are created one by one. The next step is to make the generation of these patterns automatic, thus raising the number of differently generated exercises even more. We use a description language to describe the logic behind the exercises, calling the different logics rules. One of the major challenges is to determine which of these rules are solvable by humans, thus are usable in the test. We are planning on doing this by formulating conditions. If these conditions are met in a generated rule, the rule is considered solvable. The second problem is determining the difficulty of each rule. A naive difficulty level can be determined for each rule based on how many different entities it contains and other similar factors. This difficulty level can be later on fine-tuned by a series of tests made by a group of people, whose intelligence level is determined by a different test.

When the user is solving the test, the difficulty of the next exercise is determined by the previously answered questions, meaning if the majority of the answers were correct, the difficulty level is raised, otherwise lowered. In this application the exercises were randomly generated using pre-determined patterns. This way the number of different exercises were significantly higher than in the case of such a test, where all the exercises are created one by one. The next step is to make the generation of these patterns automatic, thus raising the number of differently generated exercises even more. We use a description language to describe the logic behind the exercises, calling the different logics rules. One of the major challenges is to determine which of these rules are solvable by humans, thus are usable in the test. We are planning on doing this by formulating conditions. If these conditions are met in a generated rule, the rule is considered solvable. The second problem is determining the difficulty of each rule. A naive difficulty level can be determined for each rule based on how many different entities it contains and other similar factors. This difficulty level can be later on fine-tuned by a series of tests made by a group of people, whose intelligence level is determined by a different test.","PeriodicalId":440408,"journal":{"name":"2016 7th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Infocommunications (CogInfoCom)","volume":"150 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115381268","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the scope of this article is the presentation of the idea of Intelligent TALENT SPACE meaning the basis of architectural planning bearing an innovative technical attitude that suits to serve the future generations. "The intelligent house of the future" presented in this article is a good example for the innovative solutions of CogInfoCom (P. Baranyi and A. Csapo, 2012, P. Baranyi, A. Csapo, Gy. Sallai, 2015). In the talent space planned by us, youngsters belonging to the CE generation (P. Baranyi, A. Csapo, Gy. Sallai, 2015) might as well meet the most modern and forward-looking Science architectural notions and solutions as early as from the kindergarten years entering a Smart Home (Smart Home of Tomorrow) which we can start to handle as a big-size smart phone. By applying the Smart applications, the system reacts to the user of the flat, it is suitable for carrying out continuous psychological check-ups. Moving e.g. the light, the sound and the walls, increasing the space and the central operation of the bathroom and other facilities easily become application-controlled by phone. In the sample home to be created for the Talent Space, the appearance of disruptive technologies in the higher education in engineering provides opportunities for realizing the most diverse ideas, whether it be predicting the dwellers' medical problems (e.g. : heart attack, epileptic seizure, ... etc.), observing incidental, unexpected accidents with the help of a central camera and sensors measuring the body temperature is feasable. According to our view, this intelligent space - due to its operational opportunities - completely suits to the CE generation's digital life and inspires the invention and realization of creative architectural solutions.
在本文的范围内,提出了智能人才空间的理念,这是建筑规划的基础,具有适合服务后代的创新技术态度。本文中提出的“未来的智能住宅”是CogInfoCom创新解决方案的一个很好的例子(P. Baranyi和a . Csapo, 2012; P. Baranyi, a . Csapo, Gy。
