background Positive orientation (PO) is a hidden variable explaining a tendency to formulate global evaluations regarding one’s self, life and the future. It is inherited to a large degree and it could be considered a common base for numerous aspects of subjective well-being. The self-concept, in turn, is a basic adaptation formed during individual experiences that is responsible for adjustment. The primary aim of the current study was to verify hypotheses about the significant relationship between PO and a ‟core self” (high self-concept clarity, low self-esteem contingency, low self-rumination), as well as the meditational role of the ‟core self” in the relation between PO and hedonic balance.

results The results suggest that mindfulness, self-compassion and mindful eating related negatively to motivations to eat palatable foods. Mindful eating displayed the most significant relationship. Further investigations showed that some subscales of self-compassion, mindfulness and mindful eating related to motivations to eat palatable foods and BMI more significantly. The ability to draw more and better conclusions by investigating the relationship of subscales to health behaviors and outcomes, especially with self-compassion, has been noted in previous rationales and theories. The notable relationships were (a) the enhancement subscale of the motivations to eat palatable foods, which appeared to relate positively to self-judgment, isolation, and over-identification, while (b) the coping subscale related to all subscales within the self-compassion scale.

participants and procedure In order to characterise the structure of identity of young fathers and to determine whether they suffer from a crisis in evaluation, a study was performed on 90 men who became fathers of their first child in the period up to about half a year earlier. Techniques used in the study were: Dimensions of Identity Development Scale (DIDS), Questionnaire for Investigation of Crisis in Evaluation, and a questionnaire prepared by the author. results The structure of identity of young fathers has no relation to the age of the child, at least in the first six months of the child’s life, but it is related to the crisis in evaluation.

background Dysfunctions in the face, due to the psychological importance of the structures in the face and head, have long been a subject of interest for researchers exploring issues concerning health-related quality of life. The surprising results of previous clinical trials for myofascial pain dysfunction syndrome of the temporomandibular joints encouraged the present authors to plan a study focused on obtaining systematic knowledge of the issue.

background Although the literature has predominantly focused on elementary youth, preliminary findings indicate that attentional benefits may arise from adolescent physical activity as well. Limited research has examined the impact of classroom-based physical activity for secondary students, and no research to date has explored bicycle workstations as a means to improve physical activity within the special education classroom.

background In most countries, premature deliveries constitute 5% to 18% of births. Some preterm children, especially those born before 32 weeks of pregnancy, experience serious medical complications, which can affect their subsequent development and functioning. Even those who have an IQ within the normal range can be at risk of worse functioning. This study aimed to investigate the differences in development of hot and cool aspects of executive functions in children born prematurely in comparison to those born on time. It is also focused on evaluating relationships between executive functions in premature children and their socio-emotional competences.

background Dieting self-efficacy is defined as individual’s belief in his or her ability to adhere to a diet in order to lose or maintain current weight. Self-efficacious individuals can overcome challenges and obstacles while dieting. The main objective of this study is to report the psychometric properties of the first Polish adaptation of the Dieting Self-Efficacy Scale (DIET-SE) of Christine Stich, Barbel Knauper, and Ami Tint. The original Canadian DIET-SE is a scenario-based scale assessing dieting self-efficacy for weight loss and maintenance. It consists of three subscales and assesses dieting self-efficacy for three different types of temptation situations.

background Cognitive activity, including event-related ruminations, and personality features play an essential role in the occurrence of positive outcomes of experienced trauma. The study investigated the role of ruminations, treated both in terms of stable disposition (trait-like rumination), and about the event, in the relationship between personality dimensions and posttraumatic growth (PTG).
