Most Minangkabau manuscripts are collections of traditional mosques called "Surau Tarekat" in West Sumatra. Some of them are always crowded with congregations for pilgrimage. One of them is Surau Simaung, Nagari Sijunjung, Sijunjung Regency, and West Sumatra. The development of ancient manuscripts in Surau Simaung's collection can be relevant to present and future life. The development of ancient manuscripts as a source of value is not meant to go backwards but rather to pick up existing ones to be pushed forward as a source of creative economic development. This manuscript, it is hoped that it will support the development of religious pilgrimage tourism in West Sumatra, which has not been appropriately managed and maximally until now. This program was designed to find and explore the potential of Minangkabau manuscripts which can be developed as a creative industry. Implementing community service was training for students studying at Surau Simaung called "Pakiah" to produce unique souvenirs from the manuscripts. Producing text editions of manuscripts containing biographies of Tarekat scholars and their teachings can revive the creative industry, especially the publishing sector and the engineering of Batik motif illumination. In conclusion, Pakiah has the skills in making Batik and screen printing with illuminated motifs of ancient manuscripts in the Surau Simaung collection and can promote them.

A micro business of Wan Alan Padang Panjang, a partner in this community service activity, faces a significant problem: a low sales rate. Wan Alan produces four essential ingredients for cooking (white, red and yellow ingredients and onion paste) and ingredients for making Rendang – the traditional food of West Sumatera. The activity is done through seven steps, i.e. getting to know the partner, becoming users of the partner’s products, understanding characteristics and values of the partner’s products, identifying the right target market, choosing the most effective marketing method, designing promotion strategies and taking advantages of a personal network to introduce the partner’s product. The intervention has resulted in (i) the partner’s products are started to become known by the target market, (ii) an increase in sales gradually, (iii) products have been sold in another city (i.e. Padang), and (iv) three persons are acting as resellers now.

The activity aimed to assist Village-Owned Enterprises in Nagari Simpuruik, Sungai Tarab District, Tanah Datar Regency, West Sumatra. It has been developing business units based on village potential as it is known that today Nagari Simpuruik is famous for its "ketupat", i.e. rice cake boiled in a rhombus-shaped packet of plaited young coconut leaves. It is made of coconut leaves and produces coconut sticks as waste. Coconut sticks can be used and processed into value-added products. Seeing this potential, a community service team from the Faculty of Economics and Business of Andalas University formed a business unit by involving the Nagari Simpuruik community under the auspices of a Nagari-Owned Enterprise to produce products made from the coconut sticks known as "Sanggan". These activities consisted of surveys, Focus Group Discussions, and training. This activity certainly involves the people of Nagari Simpuruik, and it is hoped that this activity will encourage the improvement of the community's economy. The result of this activity is the form of increasing the community's ability to process waste into value-added products.

The Community Service Team of the Chemistry Department has worked closely with the Taman Pendidikan Qur'an (TPQ) and Rumah Tahzhul Qur'an (RTQ) Raudhatul Adzkia Jorong Dalam Koto Nagari Koto Tangah in solving problems faced by partners. The pond catfish farming business supports smooth operational costs and has been running for over a year, but these results still need to be improved for TPQ and RTQ. This activity aims to develop a catfish farming business accompanied by an aquaponic cultivation business to increase income from TPQ and RTQ. The benefit of this activity is that the partners have an Aquaponics business which is cultivating catfish and vegetable plants in the fish pond. The Community Service Team transferred knowledge to partners, especially in cultivating aquaponic plants through entrepreneurship. The activities of the Community Service Team in helping partners are a form of the Andalas University Higher Education Tri Dharma. The method applied to support the realization of this community service program was through supervision, program socialization, and implementation of activities. The result of this activity was that partners could run an aquaponics business to increase income to meet the operational costs of education and teacher salaries.

Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) is an approach to changing hygiene and sanitation behaviour through community empowerment with a triggering method that aims to change the behaviour of people who defecate anywhere. Environmental-based diseases, primarily related to water-borne diseases, still dominate the prevalence of diseases in Indonesia. Changing hygiene and sanitation behaviour through community empowerment is needed to improve the health status of the community as high as possible. Community service activities were conducted through interviews, triggering activities and community observations. The flow of triggering activities were introductions, conveying intentions and objectives, atmosphere building, identification of local languages, simple mapping, counting faeces, transect walk, water contamination paths, discussions, social contracts, and free defecation commitment. Participants who previously did not have latrine facilities became aware of and committed to constructing latrines independently. The village where this activity has been carried out will soon become an open defecation-free village. Become a promotor for monitoring and triggering activities for people to stop open defecation.

Public places can become a place for disease transmission, environmental pollution, or other health problems, so it is mandatory to carry out environmental sanitation. Sanitation in schools is an important thing to implement currently. Students are not only taught in class about sanitation, but students are expected to practice the theory they have learned in class. Problems that often arise are related to school sanitation, such as having poorly maintained latrines or little water so that it is not used optimally. Based on this problem, sanitation improvement was carried out using outreach and education methods interspersed with pre-tests and post-tests at SDN 10 and 17 Mata Air Timur, Padang, West Sumatra. Based on the pre-test and post-test, it can be concluded that elementary school student's knowledge of school sanitation has increased. It is hoped that the school will improve School Medical Room (UKS) to provide support, both in the form of providing facilities and infrastructure, as well as moral support. The Public Health Centers could also support improving sanitation by monitoring and coaching teachers and the school environment.

In a pandemic situation, challenges are even more significant where there is limited space for movement and need strict assistance for children with disabilities to prevent Covid-19. A common problem faced by children with disabilities is that they cannot understand abstract and verbal things, even though verbal skills are very much needed in implementing the Covid-19 health protocol. Children with disabilities need assistive devices in the form of visual media so that they can more easily apply health protocols through their senses. In Padang, West Sumatra, the highest Covid-19 cases were in Kuranji Subdistric. For this reason, the implementing team provided education regarding the Covid-19 health protocol to children with disabilities at the Alhidayah Special School using the Audio Flash Card game method and Friends Teaching Signs. It was done so that children with disabilities were hight interested in participating. The results show that the education provided was more effective with the Audio Flash Card game method and Friends Teaching Signs because, for children with disabilities, this method is more fun and easier to understand. Thus, this method should be applied and combined in the educational process so that children with disabilities can easily understand the material presented.

The phenomenon of bullying that often occurs in elementary school-age children is a severe problem that has an impact both physically and psychologically. Bullying in elementary school must be prevented immediately so that it does not become a habit that will be carried into adulthood. The purpose was to increase knowledge and assertive behaviour and the formation of anti-bullying cadres. The method used was health education and cadre training by providing a pretest and posttest. A knowledge questionnaire on bullying prevention was given to 60 elementary school students from 3 elementary schools in Pasie Nan Tigo Village, Lubuk Buaya Health Center, Koto Tangah District, Padang City. The results of this training found that students' average knowledge increased after being given health education. This training can increase students' knowledge and assertive behaviour about bullying prevention. Cadres are expected to prevent bullying in elementary school-age children so that life in the neighbourhood and school can run in peace and safety.

Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are essential in economic development. The higher the MSMEs' income, the more the country's economy will increase. The ability to do marketing is needed to attract consumers, increase sales, maintain good relations with consumers, to advance MSMEs' income. However, due to limited knowledge, many MSMEs still need to be constrained by marketing, as experienced by Healthy Snacks "Umi Wiwik". This activity aimed to provide marketing strategy training to increase partners' knowledge and ability to market their products. The partners for this activity were members of the MSMEs of Umi Wiwik in the Ampiang Parak District, totalling seven people. The training started with brainstorming, lecturing, and practice methods. Pre-test and post-test measurements were carried out to determine the difference in the participants' knowledge before and after the training. Participants' knowledge data was processed and analyzed using a paired T-test. The results of the activity showed that there was a significant difference in knowledge between the pre-test and post-test (p-value = 0.0001 [p<α]) with a score difference of 1.143. Partners were also able to practice marketing through Instagram and Facebook social media. The higher the MSMEs' income, the more the country's economy will increase. The ability to do marketing is needed to attract consumers, increase sales, maintain good relations with consumers, to advance MSMEs' income. However, due to limited knowledge, many MSMEs still need to be constrained by marketing, as experienced by Healthy Snacks \"Umi Wiwik\". This activity aimed to provide marketing strategy training to increase partners' knowledge and ability to market their products. The partners for this activity were members of the MSMEs of Umi Wiwik in the Ampiang Parak District, totalling seven people. The training started with brainstorming, lecturing, and practice methods. Pre-test and post-test measurements were carried out to determine the difference in the participants' knowledge before and after the training. Participants' knowledge data was processed and analyzed using a paired T-test. The results of the activity showed that there was a significant difference in knowledge between the pre-test and post-test (p-value = 0.0001 [p<α]) with a score difference of 1.143. Partners were also able to practice marketing through Instagram and Facebook social media. Based on these results, it can be concluded that this training has increased partners' knowledge and skills in conducting marketing. The team will work on a follow-up to evaluate the sustainability of the activity and its impact on sales and evaluate the obstacles and challenges partners face.","PeriodicalId":447434,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Warta Pengabdian Andalas","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131235978","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
