This paper proposes a blind source separation (BSS)-based method for 2-D angle estimation of multiple emitter using a uniform circular array (UCA). The array manifold matrix is first estimated via BSS method. Then 2-D angle is obtained by applying least squares method to each column of the estimated matrix, each column corresponds to a pair of 2-D angle. The proposed method do not need parameter pairing or 2-D frequency search operation. Some simulation results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

In Vehicular Ad-hoc Network (VANET), the multi-hop routing frequently breaks off, which has a negative effect on the reliability and transmission quality of the network. The paper proposes a new routing algorithm based on the geographical position, called Multi-Priority Opportunistic Directional Routing (MPODR). The algorithm improves the existing Opportunistic Directional Forwarding Strategy from two aspects. Moreover, it works together with 802.11p protocol, and adds a strategy to process the security alarm packets with high-priority, which makes the algorithm reliable and efficient. We compare the performance of GPSR and MPODR using network simulator NS2, with a specialized node mobility model simulator called VanetMobiSim to produce realistic vehicular movement trace. In the simulation, MPODR shows a much better performance than GPSR, the packet loss rate is reduced by about 80%, and the delay of the high-priority packet is within 300ms. As a result, MPODR is more suitable for vehicular network.

This paper presents the sliding exponential window max-correlation matching (SEWMCM) adaptive algorithm and the sliding rectangular window max-correlation matching (SRWMCM) adaptive algorithm for finding the maximum correlation of two different signal vectors. A unified approach to the steady-state excess mean square error (MSE) performance analyses for proposed algorithms is developed, including several general close-form analytical expressions based on the non-stationary system identification model. It is conclusively shown by numerical simulations that the SEWMCM algorithm converges faster than the SRWMCM algorithm, whereas the estimation accuracy and the steady-state performance of the SRWMCM outperform those of the SEWMCM and the conventional exponentially-weighted RLS (EWRLS).

In this paper, to estimate Rician frequency selective fading Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) channels, the Shifted Scaled Least Squares (SSLS) and General form of the Linear Minimum Mean Square Error (GLMMSE) channel estimators are proposed. It is shown that these estimators achieve much better minimum possible Bayesian Cramér-Rao Lower Bounds (CRLBs) in the frequency selective Rician fading MIMO channels compared with those of the Rayleigh one. Numerical examples show that the performance of these estimators is not more sensitive to accurate estimation of the channel Rice factor. Furthermore, to estimate the channel Rice factor at the receiver, we propose two new algorithms which perform based on the Least Squares (LS) estimates and training sequences. Simulation results confirm the efficiency of these algorithms.

Peak-to-average power ratio (PAR) reduction and sidelobes suppression are two challenges in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. Many methods have been proposed to reduce either PAR or out-of-band power. However, few have been reported for joint reduction for both of them in the literature so far. In this paper, serial peak cancellation for PAR reduction is combined with the sidelobes suppression method ^-continuous approach to improve system performance. Simulation results suggest that the combined method features great reduction of both PAR and out-of-band power and even achieves further suppression of PAR and out-of-band power in every iteration.

The telecommunication area is now highly involved in the "green technologies", proposing systems with limited power consumptions. As the power amplifier is, in a transmission chain, the most power dispersive element, it seems judicious to investigate solutions allowing an optimization of its throughput. A possible solution aims at distorting the signal just before amplification thanks to a predistorter, updated with an adaptive algorithm. The association of the predistorter and the power amplifier should then appear as linear as possible. This paper proposes a comparative study of the algorithms performance in a DVB-T context. From these simulations considering memoryless and memory power amplifiers, the algorithms performance in the correction of nonlinear effects is shown and analyzed.

The local information gathered by periodic beacons may include some outdated one caused by high mobility of nodes and the interval of beacons in the Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANET). Routing protocols for VANET can eliminate outdated links to neighboring nodes effectively if they can estimate the link expiration time. The transmission range is required to get the link duration time, and the value is not only non-fixed in the presence of signal obstacles but also changed more quickly. It is hard to apply the link time in the environment because of that reason. In this paper, we propose an approach to assign a separated transmission range per road segment, that is, Quasi-Boundary, to solve the limitation. We evaluate the effectiveness of our scheme via network simulations, and the scheme gets higher the end-to-end delivery rate by eliminating outdated information.

The growing concern of global climate change calls for a revolutionary change on the way of utilizing the energy. In terms of the ICT industry, energy efficiency needs to be considered as an important metric to evaluate a communication system, besides the conventional metrics such as quality of service, bandwidth efficiency, etc. Research should be done to raise the energy efficiency of communication networks step by step. As a starting point, this paper provides an overview of communication networks from an energy-efficiency point of view. A series of energy consumption models are summarized as well as the general approaches to develop these models. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the great influence of protocol design on the overall energy efficiency.

A novel CPW-fed compact quasi-fractal monopole antenna using Sierpinski triangle is proposed for WLAN /WiMAX applications. By using the L-system theory and a self-similar iteration design, the antenna is constructed with hexagons fractal patterns and slots. The proposal antenna covers all the 2.4/5.2/5.8 GHz WLAN operating bands and 2.5/3.5/5.5 GHz WiMAX operating bands. Also, good omni-directional radiation patterns and antenna gains over the operating bands have been obtained.

In this paper, we propose a novel strategy of filter design for filter bank multicarrier (FBMC) based cognitive radio (CR) systems, and the key idea is to directly optimize the filter coefficients with the objective and constraints of sidelobe suppression. Specifically, a slight modification is implemented to an existing nearly perfect reconstruction (NPR) filter to achieve a better sidelobe suppression than that of the original filter, while maintaining the property of the NPR. Conducted numerical results show that: 1) the sidelobe suppression of the filter could be constrained segment by segment by properly setting the constraints of the proposed scheme; 2) much better sidelobe suppression at specified segments could be achieved in FBMC based CR systems.
