The paper presents the response of a three-layered annular plate with damaged laminated facings to the loads acting in their planes. The presented problem concerns the analysis of the combination of global plate failure in the form of buckling with the local micro defects, like fibre or matrix cracks, located in the laminas. The plate structure consists of thin laminated, fibre-reinforced composite facings and a thicker foam core. The matrix and fibre cracks of facings laminas can be transversally symmetrically or asymmetrically located in plate structure. Critical static and dynamic stability analyses were carried out solving the problem numerically and analytically. The numerical results show the static and dynamic stability state of the composite plate with different combinations of damages. The final results are compared with those for undamaged structure of the plate and treated as quasi-isotropic ones. The analysed problem makes it possible to evaluate the use of the non-ideal composite plate structure in practical applications.

Technical system for condition monitoring and failure diagnostics of gear driver with roller bearings was tested in situ. The experimental measurement data of rotors shaft vibration displacements were introduced into physical model of gear teeth meshing dynamics. The modelling and simulation of teeth failures in gear driver with roller bearings was performed by finite element method. The experimental and simulation results were used in identification and elimination of sources of gear teeth damages and bearings failures.

The paper describes a system that utilizes a microprocessor in controlling the clamping force of the band saw teeth against the cutting metals. This control system allows the blades to operate more efficiently, and prolongs the blade life. It also has an influence on the removal of chips from the blade and maintains a constant strength over the blade. The system can operate in the vertical and horizontal position. A highly advanced and powerful microcontroller PIC18F4455 is programmed to operate with feedback from 4 sensors. Additionally system requires the parametrical data on the shape, the profile and the kind of material to be cut, for adjustment the process of cutting. Feedback control is implemented via a collocated force actuator/rate sensors. The control theory is used to develop controllers, which achieve robust stability.

The article presents the research on the reduction of noise an d vibrations carried out using screen theory and its implementation in practice. Acoustic screens are divided according to their application and structures. The article deals with the application of screens in practice, gives their theoretical evaluation and analyses influences of their structure and materials. The evaluation of positive and negative acoustic properties of the screens is given. The conclusion is that screen acoustic properties may be improved by including new elements into design of screens, thus increasing their efficiency in reducing noise effect. Theoretical calculations are performed, and the obtained results are analyzed. In conclusion, it is stated that cylindrical, semi-cylindrical or conical elements have to be applied in the screens.

The modified configuration of the 155 mm rocket assisted projectile equipped with lateral thrusters was proposed. Six degree of freedom mathematical model was used to investigate the quality of the considered projectile. Impact point prediction guidance scheme intended for low control authority projectile was developed to minimize the dispersion radius. Simple point mass model was applied to calculate the impact point coordinates during the flight. Main motor time delay impact on range characteristics was investigated. Miss distance errors and Circular Error Probable for various lateral thruster total impulse were obtained. Monte-Carlo simulations proved that the impact point dispersion could be reduced significantly when the circular array of 15 solid propellant lateral thrusters was used. Single motor operation time was set to be 0.025 s. Finally, the warhead radii of destruction were analyzed.

Natural fiber polymer composites are gaining focus as low cost and light weight composite material due to the availability and ecofriendly nature of the natural fiber. Fiber composites are widely used in civil engineering, marine and aerospace industries where dynamic loads and environmental loads persist. Dynamic analysis of these composites under different loading and environmental conditions is essential before their usage. The present study focuses on the dynamic behavior of areca nut husk reinforced epoxy composites under different loading frequencies (5 Hz, 10 Hz and 15 Hz) and different temperatures (ranging from 28 ◦ C to 120 ◦ C). The effect of loading and temperature on storage modulus, loss modulus and glass transition temperature was analyzed. Increase in storage modulus is observed with increase in loading frequency. The storage modulus decreases with increase in temperature. The glass transition temperature of the composite is determined to be 105 ◦ C. The elastic modulus calculated from the DMA data is compared with three point bending test.

This paper deals with two control algorithms which utilize learning of their models’ parameters. An adaptive and artificial neural network control techniques are described and compared. Both control algorithms are implemented in MATLAB and Simulink environment, and they are used in the simulation of a postion control of the LWR 4+ manipulator subjected to unknown disturbances. The results, showing the better performance of the artificial neural network controller, are shown. Advantages and disadvantages of both controllers are discussed. The usefulness of the learning algorithms for the control of LWR 4+ robots is discussed. Preliminary experiments dealing with dynamic properties of the two LWR 4+ robots are reported.
